    Banded Tuesday the 18th...need help!!!!

Is your mepergan in pill form? I'm surprised they gave you pills to take right out from surgery. I don't know if that could be causing you to throw up. I second what wasa said, I would definitely NOT be eating mashed potatoes and peas a few days out from surgery. These are considered mushies, not liquids. Even if your doc said it was ok, it seems to be causing you problems. If you don't want to take the mepergan, try some liquid tylenol. That will help some with the pain. Also, I would ask your doc if you can take some Emetrol. It is a liquid nausea medicine that works great. You definitely don't want to keep throwing up this soon after surgery. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

    Tubal Reversal and Lap Band

You can be pregnant with the lap band however most doctors recommend waiting 1-2 years after surgery before becoming pregnant. If I were you, I would have the lap band first, lose the weight which will make you healthier, then have a baby. That is what I am doing. Good luck!!!

    protein powders

I agree with Laurend.....chocolate peanut butter whey gourmet is my all time favorite (that I have tried so far anyway)!!!!!
  4. If I get to craving a soda really bad and ignoring it doesn't make it go away, I will get a coke flavored icee at WalMart or Target and that hits the spot. I don't do it often though as they are loaded with sugar.

    Binge Eating?!

I am struggling with this too. I don't know if I'd call myself a binge eater but definitely an emotional overeater. I have been in therapy for this for 1 1/2 years and my therapist supported me in getting the band. I am hoping for more restriction with my first fill but I do have a fair amount of restriction now. For instance, for dinner I ate about 2/3 of a bean and cheese burrito and about 10 chips w/ queso and was stuffed and still am 5 hours later though I have had a lot of Water since dinner. Normally, I would have eaten all that and more however I was full well before I stopped eating. It was not painful, I just felt stuffed which is the feeling I'm used to and I know we are not supposed to do that with the band. I hope I can get control of this soon and not stretch my pouch. Do you all eat to the point of just not feeling hungry any more or do you eat to the point of feeling full or even stuffed?
  6. Did any of you eat rice or pasta on mushies? If so, did you blend it up or just chew it up really well?
  7. I ate lunch and then I ate a little something else sweet (I'm not going to say what for risk of being flamed). I knew better and now I definitely know better and it wont happen again. Afterwards, I was sitting at my desk typing an email and I burped and then a little bit of (sorry, it's gross) vomit came out my nose. It was just a little bit but it was awful. I went to the bathroom for fear of what was next to come but nothing else happened. Was this a PB? Now I can't get the smell out of my nose and it's making me want to really vomit. Any advice on that? I tried putting a little bit of scented lotion at the edge of my nostrils but that didn't really help. Do you think it would be ok to chew some gum for a few minutes to get rid of the smell?
  8. Yeah, I know what you mean by a wet burp.....I've always called them yucky burps since I was a kid. LOL I've never had them come out my nose though, that was weird. Good to know that PBs don't cause the vomit smell and taste although they sound painful. Thanks.

    Drinking During Meals

I drink with my meals....my doc said I could......well, he said I could sip but I have been drinking with mine. I'm like you, I drink a lot of water. Definitely less than normal with meals but more than sipping and I still drink a lot between meals too. I still stay full forever though and I haven't even had a fill yet.

    Sweet ideas

I saw these 100 calorie frozen mousses (is that right, mousses? doesn't sound right...lol). Anyway, they were at Wal-Mart in the frozen section next to the cool whip. I think they came 2 in a package and had different flavors (chocolate, strawberry, etc). I didn't get any but they looked good. They also had frozen 100 calorie apple crisps and they have these new cookie and brownie bars for 100 calories too (non-frozen). They are starting to make more and more of the 100 calorie products which I like. Some people say they just make them want more but for me, 1 is enough, it satisfies my sweet tooth and it's already portioned out for me so I don't keep going back for more. I eat one and I'm done.

Sorry folks and the TGIF waiter.

When you slime, how long does it usually last? I wasn't trying to imply that anyone wasn't following guidelines or anything like that. I was just curious as to what you all who have been banded for awhile do when you PB. I have not PB'd or slimed and I imagine it's something that you can't understand until you've actually experienced it (which hopefully I won't for a long time). I just wanted to know what to expect, how bad it affects people, etc. I can't imagine going 2 hours without water. I am addicted to water and I never go that long without drinking it unless I'm asleep. I'm also afraid that when it does happen, I will panic and try to drink water to get it down. What will happen if I accidentally do that? Will it go ahead and cause me to regurgitate what is stuck or will just the water come back up? Sorry so many questions, I just want to know what to expect but I know it can be different for everyone. Thanks for the info!

Sorry folks and the TGIF waiter.

After you slime and PB, do you go back to eating? This is what my post op notes say about vomiting.......I assume this is the same thing you all refer to as PBing.....am I correct? Thank God I haven't done it yet but I haven't had a fill yet and am still on mushies. Do you all have these guidelines as well? Post Band Vomiting Protocol If you Vomit solid food:Stay NPO (no food or liquid by mouth) for two hours. Do not force the issue and try to eat or drink again immediately as this may induce more vomiting. The more you vomit the more swelling that may occur across your band. This may lead to further obstruction. [*]After two hours try solid foods again. [*]If you vomit again: Stay NPO (no food or liquid by mouth) for four hours. After four hours try Water only. If you can tolerate water stay on Clear Liquids for 12 hours before trying solid food again. If you cannot even tolerate clear liquids or water without vomiting notify us immediately. [*]Prolonged vomiting (more than 12 hours) is not normal. **NOTIFY US IMMEDIATELY** [*]If you go to the ER, have them immediately contact Dr. Benavides before treating you for stomach associated problems

    I am a QUEEN!!!

    Congratulations......that's awesome! What an inspiration.
  14. Does the colace ususally work that quickly....within half an hour? Also, does it just bring on a normal BM or does it cause the cramping and loose, watery stools that some other laxatives cause? Thanks.

    Heartburn and Prilosec

Have you tried the liquid tylenol? It works good but its kind of expensive if it's something you have to take a lot.

How much weight have you lost

We aren't supposed to eat 2-4 hours before bedtime? Is this a general bandster rule or does it depend on the surgeon? Mine did not tell me that.

    Heartburn and Prilosec

Laura-Has your heartburn gone away since you have lost so much weight? If so, how long after surgery did it go away? Were you able to take Prilosec if you needed it? I have not had it since starting my pre-op diet until yesterday and it has come back. I'm just wondering if I can take prilosec and do you take it whole, split it or crush it?
  18. mandi78

    Ok, now what's going on????

I have not been sick but have had the pain in the upper back between the shoulder blades. It's driving me nuts! For me, it's worse than the gas ever thought about being.

How much weight have you lost

I lost about 15 on my pre-op diet and lost 8 since surgery but have not lost a pound in the past 9 days or so. It's very frustrating.:hurt

    Death Breath

I haven't noticed my breath but since surgery I have noticed my feet are stinky and my armpits smell bad too at the end of the day. Sorry, gross I know. It's weird because I hardly sweat at all and I used to sweat all the time.

    Sleep apnea!! Diabetic!!Any advice!?!?

I'm not even 3 weeks post op and I have been off my diabetes meds since my pre op diet. I did have a very mild case of diabetes but it's great to be off the meds. I'm sure with the surgery and weight loss it will happen for you too! Good luck.
  22. I thought the first 3 days of a low carb diet were supposed to be the worst. Well, today is day 5 of my pre-op diet and it is the worst so far. I did have the headaches and stomach cramping the first 3 days but had no cravings during that time. I would rather have the headaches and stomachaches any day over this starving, craving madness. I feel like I could chew my arm off right now. My pre-op diet consists of a Protein shake for Breakfast and 2 light meat and veggie meals and a Protein shake at bedtime. And, I'm sorry for complaining because I know many of you are on a straight liquid diet and that sucks but so does this. I'm so hungry and I don't even know what I want but it does not involve meat or Protein shakes. I did have a bit of low fat cottage cheese earlier because the protein shake did not satisfy me this morning like it has the past 4 mornings but the cottage cheese didn't do anything for me either. Please help....I'm starting to wonder if I can even do this!!!!

How to see is everything ok.?

For me, I just don't feel hungry much at all. I have not had any pain, discomfort, vomiting, nausea or anything unpleasant unless I drink too much liquids when trying to get my medications down. Maybe you should call your doctor's office because I don't think you are supposed to feel a lot of pain and discomfort. When was your surgery?
