My doc had me do 2 weeks of 2 protein shakes and 2 lean meat/green veggie/fruit meals per day.....it came out to about 1,000 calories a day. I have a history of having a very enlarged liver and I lost 13 pounds on the pre-op diet but he was barely able to still do the surgery. This is just me personally though. Most people who do a 2 week pre-op diet shrink their livers fine. Mine is just always enlarged.

Quality over Quantity: The Struggle With Brain Hunger
mandi78 replied to NanaRenan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am having some of the same problems.....and I still buy way too many groceries. I keep thinking "I'm going to need this and this and this and I want that and that....etc, etc". I've been banded for nearly 4 months but I still don't think/eat like a bandster. I had good restriction for a couple of weeks after my last fill but I feel like it's gone already. Does this happen to anyone else? Every time I get a fill, the restriction seems to only last a few weeks. -
It's not the calories (since that is about all you are having in a day) so much as it is having that much protein in one sitting. Your body cannot use 67 grams of protein at one time or even 1/2 that much. Maybe drinking 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 in the evening would be a better idea. I'm surprised it doesn't make your stomach hurt. Too much protein at one time gives me horrible stomach cramps. But, if your doc knows what you are doing and doesn't have a problem with it then do what works for you. However, if you are eating as well, this would be way too many calories for a protein shake.

I don't know what's wrong with me. I'm so discouraged. I am on my 3rd fill and have not lost a pound in 2 months (since about 2 weeks after surgery). I eat so much less and better foods (most of the time) but I am still not losing. I get full a lot faster but I do still get hungry a few hours later (to the point of feeling sick if I don't eat). I wake up in the morning and my stomach is growling and cramping like I haven't eaten for days. I don't know what the deal is but I am so frustrated. I feel like this is going to be another failed weight loss attempt. And they are no help at the aftercare center. They just say "don't get frustrated, you are just getting started" but I see people on here who had surgery the same time as me or after and they have lost 35-50+ pounds and I'm not even at 25 yet. I have been trying to count points (weight watchers) to see just how much I am taking in but I am still very hungry most of the day when I only eat my allotted number of points. I am drinking plenty of Water and getting in my Protein. I see people who can just drink a Protein shake for Breakfast and be fine and I tried that the other day and I wound up eating a banana 2 hours later and was still starving and sick feeling by lunch. Any suggestions or is anyone else having this problem? Another question. How does it feel when you are really tight? I feel like after a fill that I am tight for a few days but then it goes away. But, it's not really a feeling of being full from food. It's more a feeling of pressure/tightness in my chest and lower throat area. Is this what good restriction feels like or do you actually feel full like when you ate before getting banded? Thanks.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

I'm so discouraged and mad at myself. I paid $15,000 out of my own pocket (well, took out a loan and am still paying) but I am not following bandster guidelines like I should be and therefore am not losing weight. I drink with my meals, I crave junk food and fatty(chips, dip, chocolate, etc) so that is about all I eat and I drink soda a few times per week. The only thing I'm doing right is exercising. I'm so disgusted with myself and I just can't seem to get myself to do what I'm supposed to do. I cooked a turkey breast the other day and sliced it and froze it in baggies in serving size portions, I brought one to work today along with a boiled egg and some lowfat cheese and some milk in case I wanted to make a Protein shake. What did I wind up eating you ask? For Breakfast, bacon and eggs (not too bad) and grape juice (bad) and for a snack, 1/2 of a milky way. Then for lunch, 2 cheese breadsticks and 3 buffalo chicken kickers from Dominos. Not a lot of food compared to what I used to eat but still loaded with fat and calories (already up to 1394 calories and 68 g of fat just from what I've eaten so far today) and not what I should be eating. I don't know what's wrong with me. I want to do good but I also want to eat with my friends at work. I know that's a lame excuse but I was hoping the band would kind of make me to where I didn't have cravings and didn't really care what I ate or if I ate but it really hasn't. I have good restriction, I'm on my 4th fill with 7.2 ccs. I know I have restriction because when I don't drink with my food, I get full really fast and when I do drink with my food, it hurts bad when it goes down. It doesn't get stuck or cause me to PB though. Sometimes I wish it would so I would learn my lesson. I know I need to get off the carbs and that would help with my cravings. How many carbs per day do some of you eat overall and what kind of carbs are you eating? Can you have like one of the 100 calorie packs of crackers, Cookies, etc without causing too many bad cravings? Any advice or suggestions for learning to change my behaviors and live with the new lifestyle that is required of me?

I am wanting to sell my bodybugg and wanted to see if anyone here is interested in buying it or knows anyone who wants to buy it. I have worn it maybe 10 times and it is still in perfect shape. I just can't wear it, it bothers me too much. There is about 5 weeks left on my subscription...it ends on February 26, 2008. I will sell it for $200 and pay shipping. This is a great deal. There are no more coaching sessions left but you can purchase them. If I don't get a response in a couple of days, I will post it on ebay. PM me if you are interested.

Those who have had your second fills, are you noticing any difference? I have my second one next week and I'm really hoping for a big change. I can eat as much as I could before the band most of the time. What makes me mad is that when I eat junk food (chips and such) these things fill me up quickly but when I eat the stuff that is good for me and that I am supposed to be eating such as oatmeal, protein, etc, I rarely feel full. What's up with that? Well, I was just wondering if your second fill helped more than the first for any of you. Thanks.

Doesn't seem like too much food but does seem too low in protein.

I ate some toast for Breakfast yesterday but it was kind of soggy and chewy. I have been nauseated off and on since I ate it and I have not been hungry since but have drank plenty of fluids and ate some cream of chicken Soup yesterday after the toast. Last night, when I laid down, it almost felt like I was going to have heartburn but never really totally did and now it feels like I need to hiccup but can't and like there is just a heavy lump in my chest. Do you think that bread is stuck and just sitting in there in my pouch? That's kind of how it feels. I don't know if that is possible but normally I can feel Water going down first thing in the morning but I can't this morning. I don't really know what I should do. I'm not sliming or anything and it's not painful like when you get stuck....just very annoying and mildly uncomfortable. Thanks.

How many calories per day do you eat when you workout? I know I have been eating too many calories to lose weight and so yesterday I really cut back, did my protein, etc. I never really felt hungry but I had a headache most of the day and when I went to the gym last night, I just felt weak and I know I didn't workout as good or as hard as I normally do and I felt like it was due to the lack of calories. I need to find a happy medium. Can someone give me a sample menu of what you eat on the days you workout and about how many calories, carbs, protein, etc you eat? Thanks.

I have bodybugg too and your program (calories, etc) is almost the same as mine. I hate wearing the bodybugg though so I don't most of the time. :rolleyes

What are your thoughts on these? I know I consume way too much salt. What is the best substitute to use that won't cause any kind of problems? Does anyone know?

My fiber intake is low. Would upping it help this or make it worse?

I had surgery a little over 3 months ago and my swelling from surgery went down some time ago. However, for the last few weeks I have been so bloated. Even though I have lost over 20 pounds, my pants have gotten tight again and I haven't gained any weight back. It seems like I'm retaining Water really bad for some reason. Any thoughts as to what this might be caused from? Thanks.

Yes, I do use sea salt. I like it better, I just feel like I'm still getting too much sodium. Thanks.

These sound great......since my surgery, I LOVE beans. I liked them before but now they are like my fave thing to eat. I eat them probably 4 or 5 times a week and I'm always looking for a new way to cook them. Thanks!!!

My surgeon told me I could have coffee the day of my surgery. I thought that was odd and seemed like it would be hard on the stomach. I didn't have it because I don't drink coffee but he did say I could. Didn't mention anything about caffeine.

I too am worried. I know I have eaten too much over the past few weeks. I haven't gained anything but I have felt miserably full several times and I have had a few sodas also. I thought we were supposed to vomit if we ate too much but I am on my 3rd fill and have not vomited or PBd once since surgery.....not that I want to vomit but it might keep me in check better. I'm scared too but I am scheduled for a fill on the 2nd so I'm going to ask them to do an xray and check it out. -
What foods do you eat that keep you full the longest? I am getting too hungry too soon after eating and I'm wondering what I could be eating that would keep me full longer. Thanks.

They do pull out the last fill before injecting it back in and last time she sat there and thumped the syringe several times trying to get the solution to come out and said there was some bubbles but she didn't say anything about any of it having leaked out. She said I have about 6.4 cc in there now.

Where do you get the flavored cream of wheat? I love cream of wheat but they only have original at our walmart.
