  1. kbear-I know what you mean. It sounds like you and I were banded around the same time. I often wonder if they really put a band in me or just cut me up and sewed me up...lol. I have had no pb's or sliming, none of the chest pain or tightness I was warned about, I can gulp Water with no problems (although I try not to push it). I have fluctuated from 264-267 for the past 5 days or so. I would say definitely no to the popcorn. I would go with Jax, maybe say you are just getting over a stomach bug and you don't want to push it by eating popcorn too soon.

    First Fill

Me too Kimmie!!! I wonder why some docs want to wait 6-8 weeks. My dr insists that we get our first fill at 4 weeks.

Laura-How many calories per day do you have? I don't want to count carbs/sugar either....I'd rather count calories.

Oh, my bad. The mixes listed above are not considered sugar free. They have "minimal sugar" according to the summary page. It is in the form of cane juice. Here are the nutrition facts for the chocolate chip Cookies. Amount per cookie prepared: Calories 70 Total Fat 1.75g Total Carb. 5.5g Net Carbs 3.5g Dietary Fiber 2g Sugars 2.5g Protein 1g
  7. My dr considers full liquids and mushies to be the same thing. Doesn't make sense to me because I was allowed pudding, baby food fruit and yogurt during my initial 2 week "liquid phase" but not allowed cream soups until phase II (full liquids aka mushies). Each dr is different. Did you get any kind of paperwork showing what is allowed on the different stages of your post op diet?
  8. Hi, I'm 2 weeks post op and have been on mushies since day 10. I have totally stopped losing weight and am fluctuating between 264-267. I'm still only eating 1,000-1,200 calories per day but am no longer losing. It seems most bandsters average around 1,000-1,200 calories per day after being filled. So, if I'm not losing now on this amount of calories, how will I lose on this amount of calories after being filled? Any insight? Thanks.

Here they have sugar free candy and sugar free cookie and brownie mixes. The mixes have all natural ingredients. I haven't tried them yet but I have a package of the chocolate chip cookie mix ordered. Post-op Foods

    Starving to death!!

I got it at Wal Mart by the boullion cubes. I have also gotten it at Albertsons and Whole Foods. Its always by the soups/broths/boullions. It really is heartier and more filling than just broth.

Results with the new AP band?

I have the new AP band too. They said it already has a few cc's of saline in it when they put it in. I think this has helped me not be as hungry as most claim to be during "bandster hell". I would definitely request it over the others if you have that option.
  12. I am 12 days post op and this is what my incision looks like. It's not even close to closing up and its all gooey looking. I put some new steri strips on it but I have not used any type of medication on it because they originally told me not to. I am also keeping it covered with gauze. I have emailed a picture to my surgeons office but I think he is on vacation right now. Does this look bad? Do I need to go see my regular dr about it? Thanks.
  13. Well, I went to my PCP this morning and she said my incision looks fine. I had taken the steri strips off and just put a bandage over it and all the gooeyness and wetness dried up almost immediately and by the time she looked at it, it was dry and it looks like a layer of skin has formed over it. She said was not infected and while there may be a bigger scar than I would like because it is taking longer to close up, she said it is healing and it looks good. She said to just keep washing it with soap and water and keep it clean and dry. She said I could leave it open, but I'm not comfortable doing that so I'm going to keep a bandage over it. Thanks for all the replies and advice. I feel better about it now.
  14. Oh my gosh, I got some of those laughing cow reduced fat cheese wedges (french onion flavored) and tried one yesterday and it was soooo good. Very creamy and satisfying.
  15. I am one week out yesterday and I am wondering if it is too soon for tomato soup or tomato broth? I have read that the acid in tomato products is not good for healing. Is this true?

    lap band cookbook

I've noticed since my surgery that everything is stronger tasting than before....salty stuff is saltier, sweet is sweeter, hot is hotter, etc. Has anyone else experienced this? Did anyone watch Oprah today? Jessica Seinfeld was on there and she has written a cookbook about using vegetable purees in foods to get kids to eat more veggies. She puts them in everything from mac and cheese and chicken nuggets to brownies! And Oprah and the audience said the stuff was delicious. I'm thinking about getting the book. I don't have kids but I have DH who is just as bad about eating his veggies. LOL Plus, the recipes are low fat and healthy as well. It's called Deceptively Delicious. I feel lonely.....

I had my surgery on Thursday (9/27) and while I'm glad I did it and I think it is the best thing I've ever done, I'm starting to feel sad and lonely. I'm sure part of this is the fact that I haven't left the house since I got home from surgery. Don't worry, I'm going back to work tomorrow. My life has revolved around food for so long. My social life always included food. When I go out with friends or to lunch with friends or family, it involves food....when DH and I have a date, it's to go eat or go to the movies and I always have to have popcorn. How do I get past this? I know once I heal, we will be able to do more active outdoor type things which such as camping, hiking with our dogs, etc which I am really looking forward to. In the meantime, however, I feel like an invalid who can't eat and I'm bored and lonely and nobody really understands unless they have been through this. I always eat when I'm bored and lonely....ALWAYS. I feel like I don't have anybody to talk to about it because nobody I know personally understands what its like for food to be your best friend and then to basically lose it. I knew this would probably happen but I guess I wasn't as prepared as I thought I would be. Any suggestions?

Mindy-Is it like gourmet/specialty type foods? I hope not because it's hard for me to get stuff like that unless I go to Dallas which is an hour away and I really don't like going to Dallas for groceries.

    Protein

    Use it in casseroles too.
  24. I am 10 days post op and up until yesterday, I haven't had much gas at all. I have belched a lot but it was not painful gas like air bubbles trapped in my mid to lower abdomen like it is now. I started mushies yesterday....do you think that's what is causing it? I've taken gas x and walked but it doesn't help a lot. Oh well, it's the price we pay....
