Sleeve Gastrectomy FAQ's Can the staples tear out? No. Once you have recovered from the surgery, your body's own scar tissue heals the stomach tissue together, just as your skin stays healed long after sutures or staples are removed. Staples are made of titanium. You can have an MRI scan, and you can go through the detectors at the airport without any problems. AND TO THIS I SAY I HAVE TITANIUM RODS IN MY HIP FOR OVER 30 YEARS... And I'm still here Video of the staples http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7MRWaAlaJF8&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D7MRWaAlaJF8 What are the advantages of the operation over gastric bypass? There is no rerouting of the intestines, and no new connections need to be made. This makes it safer, easier, and faster to perform. The lack of rerouting eliminates the late risk of bowel obstruction from internal hernia that comes with the gastric bypass operation. Finally, the lack of rerouting also reduces the risk of Vitamin and mineral deficiencies. What are the disadvantages as compared to gastric bypass? The main disadvantage is that we don't have long-term data to document that weight loss will be maintained. The operation is not reversible, in that part of the stomach is removed and thrown away. It can never be replaced. (On the other hand, there should be no reason to want to put it back). What are the advantages of the sleeve over the gastric band? With the sleeve there is no foreign body to break, slip, or erode. There is nothing to be adjusted. Reoperation rate for these complications is therefore eliminated. Weight loss is faster and more reliable with the sleeve. The feeling of fullness that you get from the sleeve is much more satisfying than the feeling of obstruction or discomfort that you get with the gastric band. Few patients vomit after the sleeve, while many patients continue to have vomiting episodes long after they have their gastric bands placed. What are the disadvantages as compared to the gastric band? The band is reversible; the sleeve is not. Unfortunately this turns out not to be much of an advantage of the band, as the only reason to remove a band is for complications. Is removing the stomach safe? This type of stomach removal has been performed with the Duodenal Switch procedure since the mid-1980s. It does involve stapling, just like gastric bypass, and has similar risks. How much weight will I lose? This is obviously a key question. Unfortunately, there is no long term data to give us a good answer. Preliminary data suggests that weight loss may be similar to that attained with Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. -

Yes misty and Susan usually I would urge people to read these forums for information. But after reading the amount of misinformation here in this thread alone? Not to mention several others, I would urge a person researching WLS look at independent sources for factual information. -
Lol, bless them in their innocence I gave him the stink eye after that comment and he's all doe eyed asking "what?" I'm like "what if I told you you were going into menopause??!" (Yep it's the best I had)

Lol I just bought some today. A massive jug of it.. I go back and forth on 2% and 0% Don't ask me why.. I guess I like variety It tastes just as good to me but I think I trick myself into thinking I don't feel as full as long with the 0%.. Yep that's my fat brain thinking -
I guess she got me feeling a certain way yesterday with all her questions... I get it she's just trying to see were she needs or wants to be.. I started a thread last night about competition amongst woman.. Because at he same time she was PMing me a member that hasn't been around in a while came back and was PMing me. It was smacking of bragging whilst putting me down and I didn't like her needed to draw back handed "nice" Comparisons.. Anyway fasting today, I've been having a real hard time getting my liquids in this week! I'm just to cold! And I'm breaking out bad?? I wonder if that had anything to do with it. I showed my husband the mess that is my face this morning and he said maybe it's menopausal?? Lol! You gotta love that man

Cheri, Thank you for spelling out the last part for those of us that weren't bright enough to get it... -
Yeah...well,I bet my ass is bigger than yours
-
You too butter! Lol I didn't see you there when I was posting Off to do some cross addiction shopping
-
Yes Lynda! I compare to myself at this time last year! As I'm at a year now and I'm happy! Oh and aroundhky, if you really wanted to cheer me up you flash one of those shirtless photos! I promise not to compare
-
If we compare against the next girl (or guy) It will do one of two things.. make you feel better at the expense of the other person. Or it will be another thing added to tear you down.
-
We've made a drastic scary courageous move having this surgery... All of us! And all of us are MUCH improved, right? It's hard not to compare.. I try not too, but I find myself looking at stats too. But to pick apart (ever so nicely that you did) does tear a person down.. We've all had years of that some of it self inflicted. And thanks guys.. Lol this wasn't a thinly disguised attempt to gather complements Just a hurt I wanted to get out.
-
I think it's especially damaging to our fragile in transition psyches when this competition takes place here. Yesterday was a day of behind the scenes comparisons.. I felt a comparison and competition where there should be none. I am older? I am lazy? Yes you've done better than me? Which one? I will say it. To be free of the comparison that does nothing but tear down my own personal success. Or was that the intent.. Be proud, and I will be proud. You are not me, I am not you..
-
Well I did say I was old and WHINEY
-
Recovery was a bitch for me! I'm old, whiney and it was major surgery... BUT, it was worth every miserable second I had to endure those first days.. Keep your eye on the prize girlie and all will be fine
-
I think if you had used a catchy title like "LET ME SEE YOUR HANGY SKIN" You'd get more response..
