11 basic guidelines for success with vsg
mariamitani posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I decided to post this so we can all remember the basic rules to succeed with vsg. I have noticed my weightloss has slowed down allot mostly due to eating too many carbs. Im in the calorie range my doc wants to be in but my carbs are high. according to his book if you stall or plateau its either 3 things:too much carbs, not enough exercise, or your building muscle. For me i think its the first 2. Here we go! 1. I will exercise 5 times a week for 30-45 minutes. 2.I will watch my carbohydrate intake 3.I will try to eat 3-5 meals per day with no unhealthy snacking in between 4.I will drink 8 glasses of Water per day 5.I will eat a minimum of 60-70 grams of Protein daily 6.I will honor my commitment to good health and healthy choices 7.I will have follow up care appointments with my doc as needed 8.I will always take my Vitamins 9.I will weight my self once a week 10.I will remember that this is my own journey and not compare my self to others 11.I will always keep in mind that practicing my new habits will make me healthier happier stronger and more energetic. This is what I turn to when I fall off the wagon sort of speak. I need to drink more water, eat more protein, exercise more, and drink more water. Gotta keep my head in the game. Thanks to my Dr.Alvarez for his awesome book about vsg. Hope this helps others -
What will IT look like? Maybe be tmi for some...
mariamitani replied to ShayLeigh's topic in The Gals' Room
Mine got chunky as the weight came on.Now after 98 pound loss it has gotten loose and a teeny saggy. I plan on getting a tummy tuck and the FUPA fat upper pubic area AKA the upper vajayjay will be pulled up and tightened in the process. If it is still chunky after all the weight-loss they can also liposuction the fat out! yikes! But I will be out when any of this happens. -
Ive read allot about hair loss and supplements dont seem to make a difference for most. I did find a post about loreal shampoo for falling hair used it and noticed a difference. I also started taking b complex vitamins ( all the b vitamins) My doc suggested it for the hair loss. It usually happens around 3 months post op good luck and try to keep up with protein best you can.

Gain Pounds, Lose Fat? Very Curious
mariamitani replied to JolieBug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I first started exercising I stopped losing weight and gained a little. I think it could be water retention for the muscles to heal. I'm now loosing less since I started exercising but Im getting a firmer sculpted body. If weightloss is your only goal now stick to cardio exercises. you will drop the weight fastet doing these types of exercises. If you dont a combination of both is the best way to do it. I was losing around 2.75 pounds per week now its 1.75. I still have 42 pounds to loose and dont want it to take forever im contemplating going to cardio only exercises but muscle burns more than fat! I guess it all comes down to how long you want the weightloss to take. -
Self-pay and post-op problems
mariamitani replied to laffypatty's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am self paid and needed blood work done post op and once went to the ER for dehydration. My insurance covered it but I paid the co pay. I have straight medicaid in michigan. there is a potential of getting a leak or embolism post op. These are the most feared issues post op. Depending on your doc the percent of them happening is pretty low. Follow your doctors rules. at around a month post -op if your taking medications they will need to be adjusted according to your new weight and lifestyle, so youll need a doctors visit for that and blood work done anually to make sure your getting your vitamins in. Good luck I love my sleeve -

What to do!? 1st day @gym in 3 yrs!
mariamitani replied to Jeffie Beck's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I also just started exercising last week. I started with walking 2.5 on treadmill 5 minutes then went up to 3.0 for 15-20 more minutes. I did that for 3 days last week and added 30 minutes of weight lifting nothing heavy. I worked upper body and lower. Yesterday I overdid it and got sick, I had to lay down and weight till my body got back to normal. The most important thing is to start slow and increase a week at a time. Always listen to your body it will let you know if you are pushing your self too hard. I also use the heart rate moniter on machines to make sure my heart rate is in a good range. Good luck -
Website with Before/After surgery pics
mariamitani replied to Tim H.'s topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Every body and skin is different don't rely on these pics for what your gonna look like. Start exercise early on and don't stop!!! Cardio AND lifting weights. My chest ,stomach definitely need surgery from pregnancy and weight gain . My arms might be OK I'm working then at the gym!!! My lower body looks ok so far. My highest weight was 300 I have lost 94 so far and still have 46 more to loose. So I'm not sure how im gonna look by then . My plan is to be happy with the weight-loss and ride it out till I get enough money to get surgery to fix my body. I would trade being fat and depressed for the skin in a heart beat. stay positive -

Period is worse post op :( this sucks
mariamitani posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has anyone noticed that their period symptoms have gotten worse post op? I have been on my couch for 2 days in a row badly fatigued, tired, out of breath when I stand up, and dizzy. I increased fluids ,took iron supplements and ate really good. Today I feel allot better day 6 of it. But my anxiety levels are higher than normal it just really sucks!!!. My last period lasted 9 days so I'm not sure how long this one will. I hate it wish I was a guy. I exercised today so I hope that will help with the hormones going wacky. -
This means war...
mariamitani replied to hopeliveshere's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Give in to it. When I want to eat something I eat it ! then lighten up on my calories for other meals in the day. If you want pizza eat it! each slice has about 300 calories in it I cant eat more than that at one time. Make dinner light tuna on salad. Its ok to eat what you want as long as you don't do it everyday and remain within your calorie goal for that day. Saying or thinking oh I cant have that does the opposite affect and makes you yearn for that pizza, chips, chocolate, candy that you want. Eat and don't feel guilty its OK to indulge here and there. Again remain within your calorie range for that day and you'll be fine. You can have whatever you want but choose when to have it Sorry to go off here but by changing the mental view on" I cant have this or that to I can have what ever I want and its OK" within limits is really relieving. Pre-op I would diet and then go nuts on food like there was a famine or something! Good luck on your journey -
This week I exercised 3 days for an hour each 30 minutes weight 30 cardio. I have lost only 1 pound this week. Usually its 2.5 to 3. WHY?

can't eat-really scared
mariamitani replied to freshstart_25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the person who posted above. At three months post op you should be able to tolerate food very well. If you are taking small bites , chewing them well , eating slowly , not drinking while eating and are still throwing up you definitely need to go to the doctor. It may be that the sleeve is too narrow also known as stricture and needs to be stretched a little so you can eat normally. Good luck and I hope all goes well for you. -
What you eat contributes to 70-80% of weightloss, exercise is 30-20% of it. Ive lost 93 pounds so far with no exercise. This week is the first week I actually went to the gym 3 days and exercised for an hour on each day. I do however move around more than pre-op. My arms are getting flabby and I dont want to get an arm lift so I have to decided to work my but off at the gym lifting weights to avoid it! I have 45 pounds to lose I wish they were gone NOW! LOL were is the genie when you need him!

Weight loss slowed after beginning exercise
mariamitani replied to mariamitani's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Thanks everyone for your feed back! -
I guess I'm not the only one. The other day I went into depression mode after looking at old photos of my self so i erased them!! and went and looked at my self in the mirror for like 10 minutes I felt better kind of. No matter how thin I get there will still be scars left behind from emotional eating.
