Telling a young child about surgery?
Luvlvnlyfe5 replied to Museum-Mama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you told your ex you having gallbladder surgery tell your son the same thing. Kids do not have a filter so I understand. My son is too young to understand so I will just tell him Mommy has a booboo. He is three. I haven't told my father. He recently moved in with us and I know he will be totally against surgery and spend every minute trying to talk me out of it. I haven't decided when to tell him but I need to. Maybe that morning when I'm leaving for hospital ;-( -
The sleeve started as the first step before a bypass was completed for extremely obese patients that could not undergo bypass because of excessive weight. Once weight loss leveled off after the sleeve the bypass was performed. This was for patients 400 pounds or more. I have nt seen any long term studies but I know it was a 1st step procedure until it was recently approved as a procedure available without the bypass.

I am still pre-op waiting for approval. I went to surgeon for consult for the band as well. During that visit he suggested bypass but because I wasn't diabetic felt the sleeve was a better choice. He was totally against the band. Bypass to me was too invasive. I know sleeve takes off more than half of the stomach but the malabsorption with bypass and the re-routing of your system was too drastic for me. I have friends with bypass and they are miserable. On the other hands everyone I know directly or indirectly with the sleev have loved it and would do it again. Personally I just felt that sleeve would help me achieve my goals but also not impact my life long term negatively should I develop any ailments down the road.

So very sorry to hear this. I am still pre-op and it makes you wonder...praying for the family. -
My surgeon required 200 hours logged on my machine before he would do the surgery. It was hard to get used to but I am almost at 200!

Average down time after surgery?
Luvlvnlyfe5 replied to Rena82's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm planning to take 5-6 weeks off work. I have a stressful mentally challenging job that requires me to be on my feet. I know there is no way I can keep up with the pace of my job after surgery. Good luck to you! -
