Going it alone vs Going with a facilitator...
ladybug154 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just wondering from ppl out there that have went to Mexico (PV) and had the sleeve done on their own, not going with a facilitator, how was it, where did you stay afterwards, what was it like making the arrangements. I went through a facilitator, but now I have family members that want to go have it done, and I told them I was willing to go down with them, as I think it is a matter of getting to and from your hotel to hospital after surgery. Maybe I am wrong. So would be nice to hear from some of you that opted to do it alone, as it is cheaper to go on your own. -

Make sure you get receipts for you surgery, mine was broken down into cost of dr's and medication, hospital fees, they were all on seperate invoices. I went to PV and do not regret it one bit. Good luck to you.

Yes I agree, as well there are so many health issues that ppl do suffer from due to being over weight, and many of those require medication, which some is funded by the government... If they would open it up here in Canada not to just the very obese, even at a low cost, it would be beneficial to everyone. And with such long waiting lists it gets very discouraging, b/c it takes a lot for some to actually make that decision and then to find you have a long wait, you get discouraged. My wait time in PV was like 2 weeks from the time i made my decision, to the time of surgery, and no journaling or 10% of my weight I had to lose first. I have no regrets with my decision, would do it all again. I am 14 weeks out and down 46lbs, feel so much better about ME, haven't felt like that for a long time????

Well did you get receipts from the hospital or in your case clinic? Now I'm not sure if its different b/c we went to an actual hospital an we were there for 3 nights. We got receipts if the cost of the dr, and all his team, hospital stay, meds, X-ray, blood work, they broke it all down. So I'm not sure if yours would be different if you didn't go to an actual hospital, and be under the care of a physician. When did you have surgery? I haven't gotten anything yet but only sent forms away roughly 2-3 weeks ago and it can take up to 12 to hear anything, most have gotten 1800-2000 back, anything helps with the expense. I think it's sad that we have to go out of country. I would never have been considered ( at least I don't believe I would have been) as I was not considered anything but over weight, I had no health issues. But even though it was a lot if money I wouldn't change it for anything. If you have more questions don't hesitate to ask. There were little tips that a friend gave to me before going that helped prepare me for what to expect and even things to take to make certain things easier. Especially with the drains, not sure if you had them or not some do some dont.)

You are in great hands with dr c as well as his team. We also stayed at the Marriott we went with a facilitator that had a house rented and when we got there the a/c and water quit working, so dr c booked us onto the Marriott. It was very therapeutic and relaxing. We are all doing very well , I have lost 42 lbs since surgery oct 24. Has anyone explained what the leak tests are about, and about the drains? That you have to drink a blue dye so they can see if you have a leak, and that it will give you the runs...take a shoelace like a long one and use this when you shower to clip your drains to so they don't just hang b/c it pulls on the tubes when they hang, so if you put the lace around your neck ans tie a knot at each ebd and clip the drains to the knots it takes the pressure off. Take gas x it helps lots and walk walk walk. If you don't walk you will be hurting. I was sick when I came out of the anesthetic and I couldn't get up to walk until the next day and it put me a day behind everyone else, so do lots of walking. If you are sick ask them for something cause they don't just give it. I downloaded google translate on my phone so that I could communicate with them. Good luck to you.

Hi all, I am a month out of surgery, wondering if anyone one has some different ideas for breakfast?
