  1. I had hunger starting shortly after surgery so I know that experience. However, it is important to keep to the diet given as to not hurt your tummy. Also, just because you can gulp doesn't mean you should. Your tummy is still so swolen and sore, it may not register the pain of drinking too fast. I would say, keep sipping so as to not hurt yourself in the long run. Eventually the swelling will decrease and if you don't sip, you'll find out the painful way that you should have. As for feeling "full" that probably won't happen until you're able to do solids. Many don't feel any fullness until then. So get your mind ready to aim for satisfied instead of full. Full can be the difference between feeling good and being stuck in bed with a horrible tummy ache. Other than that, keep drinking your Water because it sounds like you're doing great.
  2. Ohhh hugs to you. I know exactly how you feel. I have developed fear around eating because I'm worried I'll vomit. I have read that this will not last. Apparently around 6 or so months we start to find we feel a bit more normal about food. I also read if you haven't been hungry you start getting hungry again then. Hopefully you're able to do well with the lack of enjoyment around food. I'm actually secretly glad I don't want/like to eat like I used to.

    feelings

I bet it's your hormones. There are days when I get so annoyed/angry/irritated that I can sense I'm being unreasonable but just can't stop. Then I spend the next day apologizing to my hubby and kids for my touch of crazy. I'd say, just go through the feelings and let them process. Sometimes the only way to get out of a funk is to just go through it.

Never thought I'd say this about trolling...but this one is worth it for the laughs!
  6. That formula is the lie we all bought into. I've done diets at very low cals and high intensity workouts and still not much weight loss. I learned during my stall that success is not the lbs lost, it is the great way I feel and how healthy my mind has gotten around food choices and this process.
  7. I stalled from weeks 2-10. I am only now at 11 weeks post-op. However, during that time I had amazing inch loss. Lost 3 dress sizes. So I'll take it. The key is to remember your body is doing things during a stall. We get condiditoned to think that if we don't see the scale moving we are not successful. I really learned a lot about my mental and physical self during this stall. Keep at it with your Protein and liquids and your body will catch up.
  8. Anything sleeve specific is better. Many have bought the book and said nothing but good things about it.

    Evening Primrose Oil

I used to make a facial with gel Vit A and Royal Jelly and I would poke a hole in the pill and then squeeze the contents out. Not sure how good that would taste, but perhaps you can get an ounce of water/ some other liquid and make it a shot. Could that work?

Talking about what comes out the other end

It will be beneficial post-op for you to take something if you have probs pre-op. The only real variance will be when the Dr okays you to start them. Most Drs do agree that we may need some fiber help post-op. I've been fortunate that I'm still very regular post-op as pre-op. It was harder initially but now at 11 weeks. I'm back to pooping at least once each day. Pre-op I went after every meal.
  11. You might want to also post in the Vet forum. They have lots of Vets that may have gone through this. Best wishes to you!!

    4 down 2 to go

Looks like it is time for a new Dr and a letter to the insurance provider. I would detail what happened and tell them that I was early for my initial scheduled apt and then was turned away. Oh this should be documented because it is pushing your timeline too.
  13. What you're feeling is normal. I went from excited to nervous to scared and then back to excited. Keep your eye on the prize. You sound like you have this all figured out so that's part of the battle. Best wishes to you and just think, you are at the starting line of a great new life!!

    Discharge

Check with your Dr but you may find it is fine. My largest incision had leakage. I was happy that it started right before one of my first follow-ups. My Dr told me it is normal (I didn't have a drainage tube). She dressed it and sent me on my way. She told me to keep it properly dressed in clean gauze/cotton and medical tape. It drained/leaked for about a week. It was a lot and I mean enough to soak through my tops/pants. It never opened back up or got infected because I kept it covered when clothed and at night I let it breathe. I also slept on a towel so that when I was on my side, it could drain without soaking my sheets. I showered as usual and had no problems after that week. BTW, mine didn't hurt, it was tender to the press, but it didn't bother me.
  15. First, yes, I think you should consult your Dr. Have you figured out if you have any new food intolerances? I know for a fact that many of us do and the first couple of times we try something, well it isn't pretty. Also, it could be the speed in which you're eating and the amount. No matter how slow I think I'm eating, unless I time myself it is faster than I thought. Same goes for amounts when I'm not really watching what I eat. Not that much goes down, but sometimes it is more than I thought. Best wishes and let us know what happens with this.

    Evening Primrose Oil

Are these gel pills? If not, you can get a cheap pill slicer from Amazon and cut it in half or 3rds if necessary.

Pokey's comments are so much funnier when looking at that pic of MiMi from Drew Carey. Best pic for this type of convo!

    BOILED PEANUTS! AWESOME!

My Mom's fam is from NC and let me tell you, I could not do those wet nuts (we called them). However, I have found nuts settle okay in my tummy (most sensitive tummy on the planet) in small amounts so you should be good.
  19. Cm, as I mentioned, I wasn't coming down on you. I'm only 11 weeks out and had complications...this is still very real to me as I can only go a few days at one stretch without throwing up. My purpose was to ensure that you did the proper research. Many many people who come to this site have not done so, stick around a while and you'll see exactly what I mean. All of us at one time got cold feet and post-op got the "what did I do to myself". What scares me about your case is that you've put this off 3 times. I haven't seen anyone do that before. It made me question your support system (which you said in another post, you didn't really have outside your hubby) and readiness. You have to be fully ready to take this on. What I've seen here is nothing less than sheer determination from people close to their dates. I mean people who have paid for lawyers, taken time off work, left family behind for weeks, almost died, traveled to distant places...all out of sheer determination. Based on this and your other posts, it didn't sound like you were sold on this surgery. In fact, it seemed like you were still in decision making mode. This is why I was so stunned you were already on the liquid diet...by that time, most of us are so sold we know there is no turning back. I've had a long painful road so I believe in being honest with others. This was one of the hardest things I've ever been through. My goal is to make sure before anyone takes a chance with their life, they have ample support, done adequate research, and are absolutely determined. I really don't want to discourage you from what is for most of us a lifesaving surgery, but on this site, I make it a point to be honest with newbies and to give both sides of this experience. If you think I/we're being rough on you, it is not our intention. Our intentions come out of a place of wanting to be helpful while also very very real and honest.
  20. Ha! The big girl in me just came out...I know they have the sugar free syrups, that's what I get in my chai tea. I was thinking the actual caramel they put on top. I guess you can get a caramel drink without the toppings! Flash back moment!!

    Pain when bending

My pain on that side was due to a pulled muscle. My Dr told me how they actually take the stomach out and well, let's just say, after that visual, I understood why that side hurt. Try to take it easy and maybe use a heating pad or warm rag when you finally get to sit and relax. It will pass, mine took a couple weeks, but it finally went away.

    Shakes

I could not do the shakes or anything containing milk products post-op. Still can't. My first few weeks was tough Protein wise. However, now that I'm farther out, I have to eat enough foods to meet my requirements. It is tough but it can be done.

    Feelin Down :(

Oh wow, expecting to lose a pound a day sounds like a set up for disappointment. That is nearly impossible. Sure, overall if you do some math you may find an average of a pound a day on the fastest losers, but normally it just doesn't work that way. I spent weeks 2-10 in a stall. NO WEIGHT LOSS! It wasn't until about week 6-7 that I even started losing inches. So to say I was frustrated is an understatement. As far as the vomiting, I still vomit often at 11 weeks. Some foods like me one day and the next they hate me. It really is nothing we can put our finger on. I just make sure to get my daily 64 oz of Water and Protein so ensure I'm doing my part. Now what really has me concerned is your liking to feel your stomach emptying. This concerns me because it sounds like you're getting yourself in a position of getting bulimic. Don't allow yourself to be fascinated with vomiting. It is very common after WLS to transfer into other types of food/weight issues. You don't want to do all this to get healthy just to find yourself enjoying the vomiting so much you become bulimic. Maybe I'm reaching here, but it is so very possible.

    What was your breaking point?

2 years ago, I was at work and got the call that my M-I-L dropped dead. This was a healthy woman who just dropped dead. When my husband's family asked why, the Dr literally dismissed them and said well she was overweight (50 lbs), that's what we're writing down, but if you really want to know, you can pay for an autopsy. I looked at her husband of 44 years and her grown sons and thought...there is no way I will do this to my kids. If I drop dead, they won't be able to cop to weight...they'll HAVE to figure out why I died.

    I just lied!

This is pretty much how I feel. In fact I told people and tell them openly. However when I'm asked a question I think is personal...I usually just look at them, give them this face , and stare. That usually gets people to backpeddle and stammer some type of apology/explanation. They then change the subject. Sometimes silence is the best way to go with ignorance.
