Woohoo, who else discovered via VST inbox that they are now a millionairess from a long lost aunt in Benin?

Stole the words right out of my mouth...and to think I really believed this peasant life was beneath me! -
I can't seem to get used to NOT drinking with my meals!
TwinsMama replied to Im14fun's topic in Food and Nutrition
Ohhh so smart...I'm so doing this. -
So very true. I had to get used to that. I was embarassed when I was in a meeting and there was a pause and my tummy made noises. I sooo wanted to fall through the floor. Good thing the guy next to me said he was so hungry...everyone assumed it was him. I think he was just being kind (new guy on the team). Bless his heart!

My doctor said that while Protein is important, if you have problems getting fluids in, focus on liquids first. Then if you have any room/energy left, try and do a few shakes. I would say, if you can get your liquids built up over time, then you can worry about your protein. You're pretty far out so my advice may only work for newly pre-ops, so call your Dr. S/he may be able to give you a few tips. Even though complications are rare, most Docs know how to help you with them.

If I was a horse, they'd shoot me
TwinsMama replied to AmyInOrlando's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awww, hang in there. Give it time. I know it feels like everything is going wrong, but believe me, you'll look back on this and realize this was just one more of those "things" to get past. Best wishes to you! -
I can't seem to get used to NOT drinking with my meals!
TwinsMama replied to Im14fun's topic in Food and Nutrition
This is what took me the longest to get. Now as a post-op, I don't order a drink when going out and don't bring everything for my meal to the dinner table (if I have to get up to get something...I just won't have it including water). Also, what helps me is learning what foods are too dry. I noticed any white meat (I mostly eat turkey) dries me out, as does anything with hidden wheat/flour/etc. Bars are the worst offenders so I literally have to make myself not cheat when I eat those. There are times when the choice is drink something or eat (bigger problem for me now). I usually opt for the drink and put off eating. -
NSV...feeling yourself....
TwinsMama replied to gmanbat's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
No way, it's not gross...I can't wait to have my sexy gap again. That's the new thing...or at least that's what I overheard a bunch of 20-somethings saying on the train! I was sooo before my time! -
Oh wow, I've never heard of anyone not having any heart testing done. I have no co-morbids either but still they wanted to be sure everything was okay. Just goes to show each Dr is different.

So sorry this happened to you. I really wish more Drs gave a complete list of everything needed up front. Then if a patient doesn't need it, they just cross it off. Hang in there, you've made it this far, it will work out for you.

I do a combo of this and actually boxing up the food and then tossing it or leaving it out so that I end up having to toss it. I don't know why, but it feels less like I've wasted it if I box it and then toss it. I think it's about leaving the restaurant/store/etc. with it rather than having someone else toss it. Almost like on hoarders...how they can throw their stuff out but to see someone else throw their stuff out, sends them over the deep end.

Pre-Op NSV: Resisting Temptation at Disneyland!
TwinsMama replied to stacechase's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awesome...your post-op self will thank you for it! -
You're doing great. I haven't been cleared for raw veggies yet, but that is what I am missing most right now. Also haven't been cleared for jerky. Do you find it breaks down easily? I imagine you'd have to chew for hours (kidding).

Whats the best Vitamins? Help please
TwinsMama replied to annag's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Also check with your Dr. My Dr won't allow us to have gummies. All else are ok. -
Yes yes yes! You hit the nail on the head with the disinterest in food. It is really hard to stay motivated when you hate to eat. I'm almost scared sometimes due to my inability to know what will throw me into a violent vomit fest.

Whats the best Vitamins? Help please
TwinsMama replied to annag's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Loved these pre-op but I couldn't do the wellesse post-op except the B vitamins. That is yummy. Tastes like juice. -
Keep on them. Keep calling. I know they hate that at the review boards, but how could they possibly give you a date prior to approval? I know some companies do that but all it does is stress you out.

Re: Last time I checked, this was the "Man Room"
TwinsMama replied to Ms.AntiBand's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ditto. I NEVER look at the room. I've wandered into some pretty "exciting" discussions not realizing it was between the guys. Between my app and the website design I never notice what forum anything is in unless I purposefully click on that forum. -
Congrats!!

Love that you're doing this...I did my own list (on paper) pre-op. Oh and I love Gilmore Girls and Soukie! Cost - of both surgery and for those that are not used to buying clean foods. If you're used to buying mostly processed foods, take heed...the cost of veggies, fruits, and healthy meats, can shock your wallet. Medications - while yes some people do come off their meds, some don't or they may for the first year or so, but then they have to get back on meds. Loss of friendships - some people will not be able to accept you are doing something positive for yourself, and some will feel jealous you can lose weight while they may not be able to have surgery. Plus, some will feel threated by your new sexy you (both mental and physical). Painful sex - that has happened to some here.

found a new meal :)
TwinsMama replied to prettychica13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw these on TV, one of the Nick or Disney channels my kids had on (which is funny because they don't watch a lot of TV). I wondered if anyone tried them. My only concern is the sodium. A lot of processed meat has high sodium. Glad to know this is a healthier option than a lot of other quick grab foods. -
Do light weights lose slower?
TwinsMama replied to Bellanthin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ditto! I had over 200 lbs (at my starting weight) to lose and I have discovered even with so much to lose, I am really a slllloooowww loser. It sucks so much sometimes to see people with less than 100 lbs at their start fly through their weight loss. On the up side, I've noticed that because I'm losing slower than a a turtle, I'm having time to correct skin issues along the way. I don't wake up and am down so much that I am fixing things after the fact...nope, day by day I am seeing changes (even though they're small) and can do up-keep as needed. Also, I wish this was not so commonly well known, I think because most of us with a lot to lose hear this, we automatically think something's wrong with us because surely we "should" be losing faster. This is the stuff of headaches and frustrations. -
Whats the best Vitamins? Help please
TwinsMama replied to annag's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I take Flinstone Complete. Not a lot of sugar and I have great levels. -
I went through Kaiser and my eval was a brief 10-15 (can't really remember at this point) questionnaire that was asked over the phone. It was VERY WLS specific. The only thing they did ask about overall health was did I want to harm myself or others. Everything else was "on topic". I think the problem is really 2-fold... One, many therapists/Drs/etc. say that obesity is an illness but I don't think they really believe that. I think they take the approach that obese people are somehow more mentally flawed (as if any of us is perfect) so they keep going deeper and deeper. I say this as someone who has been thinner before and heard Drs make some really negative comments about obese people. Two, there are a lot of people who believe just having surgery will magically fix what's wrong with everything not going well in their life. Because there is no way to separate those doing this to help with their health and overall quality of life and those expecting a magic pill...therapists go overboard. It's really sad to think that people get denied because they go out and try to get help. It breaks my heart that more companies don't offer surgery as a resource...especially given the big push for wellness programs. Hopefully this will change in the near future as more and more people better their quality of life.

Almost every one of my apts my cycle started. My body had me furious at times. I'd say call and ask them if it matters. My Nut would sometimes notate a variance of 2 lbs because it seemed I was always on my cycle during our visits. Call and see if they would rather you wait a week. At this point, I know you're ready but it won't hurt to wait 1 week if need be. In that time you can work on other parts of the approval if possible.

weight gain 13days post op?
TwinsMama replied to caramellhoney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand how you feel. I posted earlier about my 4 week stall then loss of almost 10 lbs in a week. Now 4 of those lbs came back. What I noticed is increased salt - didn't realize how much sodium was in some of the Protein bars I added to get enough protein. Also, I have been increasing my water due to more activity. I've also added strength training. While no not one of those equals a 4 lbs gain in a week...all together my body is just stuck. I sooooo want to get under 300 lbs. but right now the goal is to be healthy not necessairly just losing pounds. Keep at it and really don't be so worried about the scale. For the first time since surgery I am noticing my clothes are getting looser. I literally almost lost my skirt the other day at work...while I would love to see pounds lost, I'll take those inches. How about you, are you noticing your clothes fitting better/looser?
