The Elevator Operator...
TwinsMama replied to gmanbat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Love it! -
I eat normally by schedule. Usually that falls in line with when I feel the most hunger. The only time I deviate from that is when I am really thirsty. Sometimes I'll take the extra drinking and push off eating.

Why did you choose sleeve over bypass?
TwinsMama replied to rocknrollmama1980's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I had hunger right away. The thing is, it is wayyyy less than before the sleeve. Also now, I'm back to feeling satisfied which constant hunger didn't allow for. I was either full or hungry...no in between. I do have a friend that was successful with RnY. While she would have liked the sleeve, she wanted the fast loss of RnY. She has had no complaint and no regain to date (almost 4 years out). -
Stall/gain at 3 months?
TwinsMama replied to mamamareli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very normal. Most of us stall at some point within the first 3 months. -
Ok everyone, i need help with my grocery list!
TwinsMama replied to JessicaAnn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That sounds good KW, I love turkey. I'm sure the canned one is not as dry and the turkey breast I tried and threw back up. -
I could not side sleep until about a month after. My tummy just didn't like that. Funny, I didn't realize I could sleep on my side until I woke up in the middle of the night on my tummy. I was always a side/stomach sleeper so it was tough for me to get used to sleeping on my back. Give it some time, we all heal at different paces.

Getting frustrated with the scale!
TwinsMama replied to bettyb71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm thinking you're also building muscle too then, so that could account for the reason your loss is not as you would have liked. The body does funny things when we treat it well. It is often not at all what we would expect...WHEN we expect it. Over time it will all come together. -
Getting frustrated with the scale!
TwinsMama replied to bettyb71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm also 8 weeks out and have stalled now twice. The first time at 2 weeks for 4 whole weeks. The second time at weeks 5-8 (so yup, I'm stalled AGAIN). I have lost practically nothing since being sleeved...in weight. However, I'm now wearing clothes I haven't worn in YEARS! I also fit into places that were snug before (think bus and train seats with other people). I was frustrated at first too but now, I'm liking that the lbs are going slower than the inches...this will help my skin fare better so hopefully no droppy body. I know the temptation of the scale but it is sooo much better to relax and go with the journey rather than stress yourself out with the scale. Also, what type of workout are you doing? I am doing mostly strength training so I'm expecting my loss to be even slower than it has been. But I'm loving the way I'm looking in clothes/naked even at over 300 lbs. Plus, the extra compliments have been great...by losing inches people think I've lost wayyyyy more weight than I actually have. -
Calcium Citrate - Multivitamin Combo
TwinsMama replied to VSG Tommy B's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I was told the body can only absorb so much calcium at once. So to always wait 2 hours between your multi (iron or no iron) and your calcium. My Nut said to never take the 2 together. Maybe ask your Nut or Dr about it. -
Mine said point break...DON'T DO THAT! She said our natural instinct was to swallow what we put in our mouths (no jokes guys!). She said it is not worth it also to keep the cravings or pattern of putting bad things in our mouths. Edited: point blank...

found a new meal :)
TwinsMama replied to prettychica13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me too! That and sweets were the death of my cute waistline. -
Glad you're feeling better and know what your addictions are. Good plan to stay away.

I thought I was the only one who hates the eliptical. Glad to know I'm not alone.

I hate sweating too. It kind of creeps me out (must be something from my childhood). BUT...I find when I do a workout I enjoy I don't notice so much the sweat. I'm so focused on the fun it distracts me. Maybe you need to try videos or a class in person. Also, there are some really great workouts that don't cause a lot of sweating but do help you get toned. Maybe check out some of them.

Traveling 17 days post op...any diet tips?
TwinsMama replied to Thinner1Day's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
If you can do bars, maybe try and take some of those. You'll be in a good stage by the time you travel so you should get lots of suggestions from the other post-ops on what you can take/have. -
You're not being too dramatic... Last night I had Taco Bell. I ate the toppings off the nachos grande. It was my first fast food (I didn't do fast food except the Bell pre-op). Eating just the toppings (Beans, meat, and a taste of cheese) was good satisfying and didn't hurt my calories/carbs. Hang in there and don't swear off fast foods forever. There are lots of Vets who mention the Bell is one of the better fast food places to go post-op.

1-week stall....REALLY?!
TwinsMama replied to CorvetteGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stalled for 4 weeks starting at week 2. Then had a great loss the 5th week and gained half that loss back again and haven't lost again since week 5. Yes ANOTHER 2.5 week stall. I attribute the gain to the muscle I'm building doing my squat and arms challenges. I'm also down 2 sizes so I cannot complain. I'd rather lose the inches. I am wearing pants today that I haven't worn in years. Don't worry about the stalls, they happen and other good things happen during them. -
Sounds like gas, that was exactly what happened to me. Mine then spread to my entire back and other shoulder. Please let us know what you find out.

You may want to reach out to your Dr or Nut. What phase are you on? Sometimes we don't feel full or at least satisfied (which is preferable) until we start either pureed or solids.

Why did you choose sleeve over bypass?
TwinsMama replied to rocknrollmama1980's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I agree, also I chose th sleeve because with all the great reasons Maria said above, it also is not that much of a variance between average loss among RnY and Sleeve patients. Not worth all the other "stuff" that goes on to reroute my insides just to be within 10 lbs of average weight loss. Also, dumping is less of a chance with the Sleeve. Although, I am a dumper. So take that for what it's worth. As an FYI, I was a grazer and also had a horrible sweet tooth. Since surgery, I no longer even look at sweets (I'm fairly new out but still at 8 weeks I have no desire)...since I don't crave sweets, I no longer graze. So far this surgery has fixed my 2 biggest eating probs. -
I need your help!
TwinsMama replied to taylormarie421's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This was me until like 2 weeks ago and I'm about 8 weeks out now. Try seafood if you can. I've found that fish (not tuna) and shrimp help. They tend not to be (at least for me) as heavy as the other Proteins so I can do those. Good luck to you and hang in there. -
NOOO! Sore throat prior to surgery next Monday!
TwinsMama replied to auntyc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I second what you've heard unless you have some other pre-ex condition that would cause them to be concerned. If this is just a cold or allergies, relax, get well, and even if you still have a bit of a bug, they'll prob still do the surgery. Also, it doesn't hurt to call your Dr and find out. I know you may not want them to know, but better to find out now than show up and be sent home (which I doubt).
