  1. I have to agree! Even though I had my surgery with a BMI of 28, I had weighed much more and I was on my way up. By the previous poster's point of view maybe I should have waited until my BMI got up as high as hers before I had surgery. No thank you! I have struggled with my weight for my entire life. I was the heaviest child in grammar school and I weighed 103lbs. at 8 yrs.old. Please understand that I had multiple experiences losing weight but I was unable to keep it off. My surgery and recovery have been uneventful. Everyone has an opinion and this is mine.
  2. Because my BMI was also 28, I had my VSG in Mexico on December 2012. I reached my goal in 6 months and went below goal by 10 lbs,, for a total of 50 lbs. lost. I have nothing but positive things to say about having this done. My whole life was a struggle with my weight and I had been heavier at various times, but decided to stop the madness! Menopause, age and a lower metabolism had made it virtually impossible to lose any weight without this surgery. I am maintaining my weight loss without any issues and determined to keep doing so. I wear a size 0 and wouldn't give that up for anything!

    4 Wks Post Op Miserable

I remember vividly that all of the posts made by Lux, were responded to with compassion and identification. He returned again and again because he was shown such kindness. So, please don't assume that he retreated because he wasn't supported. The thing that bothered me about Lux, was that he was getting better (per his posts) but he never returned to share how he was doing, after he was given great support. If he was not getting better, he would be dead. His complications were that serious! You are still very new and things will change for you. You may never embrace the gastric sleeve as the correct procedure for you, but it is now something you are forced to deal with daily. The diet that worked for you pre-op may not be appropriate for you post-op. Please know that I wish you well and that you eventually heal completely from your surgery.

    4 Wks Post Op Miserable

What my take on Lux is this: He had a lot to say when he was in pain post-op and was very vocal about all of his issues. He had lively discussions with others who also had similar complications. When Lux was feeling better, we never heard a peep from him. No updates, no current status reports or anything else. There are some people who like to live in the problem instead of living in the solution. I've seen this happen again an again.
  6. I was one of the lucky ones who did not have any pain at all. I did help out some other people who were not as fortunate. We had a great time there shopping (we tucked our drain inside our pants) then meeting some of the locals, who were real characters. Some people will complain that the medical care is not up to par with the US but I got the precise care I needed and have a nice tight boughie to show for it. I continue to have great restriction and easily maintain my weight loss,
  7. Hi there, Borders 3. I am 1 year post op with Dr. Almanza, as of December 18th. My experience has been fantastic. I maintain a weight between 107-110 lbs. It's thin for my height of 5'4" but I m healthy and happy, with boundless energy Please contact me if you have any questions. Stephanie
  8. These are the best posts I've seen, since being on this forum! I am only 3 weeks post-op and I am so tired of seeing people post the same things over and over again. If as a newcomer, am tired of hearing the whining, I can't even imagine how you vets feel. I did and continue to do, a lot of research on the sleeve and the post-op guidelines. To hear that people are actually surprised at the work they have to put into this great tool, baffles me. The literature and vets on this forum, state again and again, that this is only a tool and you have to work at changing life long bad habits, in order to succeed. The only reason I still read anything on this forum, is to hear how the others, who are vets of this surgery, changed their behavior, met their goals and how they are maintaining their weight. It's funny how new members act like they can give advice to others, while they are still healing from the surgery. I will only read the posts that are from those who know what they are talking about and share their experience, strength and hope with others.
