  1. We are all so happy to hear from you! Rest well...
  2. I'm trying to figure out what to pack for my surgery next week. I'll have the two nights at the hotel, and then a full day of travel back to my home. What will I be able to drink...especially for protein? I'm packing some Injury chicken soup, and wondering if protein powder would be a waste of space in my suitcase. Plus, if I have to bring all those packets of powder back to the U.S. because I didn't use them, the Border Agents might pull me aside! .
  3. Great question, amytug! I take Protonix and it is very expensive in the US.
  4. Hi Jeni, I can't imagine the stress of a possible weather delay at this point. Hopefully, the forecast will look better a day from now..you know how those weather fronts can change direction. I am planning on seeing you at Mi Doctor this week!

You are probably in la-la-land right now. We are thinking of you! Hope the gas pains aren't too bad....
  11. I know that there are quite a few of us scheduled for surgery in Tijuana the week of Feb 18th. If you'll be there, please post your dates so we can try to meet each other while we are there (and also help each other through this, including the nervous days between now and then!) Here's my info: scsleever Arrive in San Diego: Wed. 12. My surgery is next week, and I'm thinking about what I will need for my "clear liquid" day. I will have things to drink, but I'm wondering about protein. Is Injury Chicken Soup OK? If not, what did you drink for protein that day? Thanks for your help!

That "sexy" is going to look fantastic on you!!

    He we go!

We'll be anxiously waiting to hear that you are sleeved and walking the halls!
  16. I'm still pre-op, so take this as a comment from someone who isn't sleeved... but I know that carbs will always trigger my hunger. So, for me, those Goldfish crackers would make me hungry. I'd suggest trying to eliminate the carbs (the first day or two will be tough) and see if that helps with the hunger.
  17. Feb 18th-23rd Sleevers.... our time has come!! Do you think we should set up a couple of "get-together" times now? Like maybe 12 noon lunch (broth), 3 pm happy hour (popsicle), and 6 pm dinner (broth)? Then..whoever feels up to joining us would know to meet in the lobby at that time. It's just a suggestion... if anyone has any other ideas for getting together while we are recovering (or...for that first day at the hotel before surgery), please let us know. BTW... I asked Alma about other surgeries on Thursday and found out that there are a total of four for Dr. Garcia. See you all very soon! Martha
  18. I'll be thinking of both of you tomorrow...and will be sending warm, healing thoughts your way.

    One point on going solo

Great advice... and something I absolutely did NOT think about. Thanks so much!

    GOING ALONE

I'll be leaving next Wed, surgery on Thurs (Feb 21st). I'm going alone. Honestly, for me, the positives outweigh the negatives. For five days I will focus on how I am feeling, and what I need...rather than have to worry about how my companion is doing. I also trust that Dr. Garcia and his staff will take excellent care of me. I sometimes worry that, if I have a serious complication, I will regret going alone. But then I realized that if there is a serious problem, what could my companion do other than worry? He/she would have to follow the doctor's recommendation on what needs to be done. So I'm going forward... thinking of this as a great adventure...and looking forward to telling everyone how I went ALONE to Tijuana, Mexico, for surgery. Can't you just imagine the look on their faces?...because 98% of them will think I am a really brave but undoubtedly crazy person!!

    In Mexico ..OCC

Thank you for posting about your surgery and recovery.... so happy to hear that you are doing well!.
  22. Today was sooooo hard... pre-op diet blues got the best of me and about 10 extra grams of carbs passed my lips at dinnertime...feeling very guilty and disappointed in myself. Reading this post, I realized that today was different because I didn't focus on getting my fluids (it was a busy day). So tonight it's drink, drink, drink. If I had kept up with the water during the day, I wouldn't have to be downing so much of it tonight. Plus I probably would've been able to say "No" to those extra carbs. Live and learn....
  23. I am taking generic Protonix, but it is really expensive.... so I want to switch to a non-prescription drug. Please share your experiences with different PPI's (both prescription and non-prescription), and let us know which one works best for you. Thank you!

    Dr. Fernando Garcia

But you are being REDUCED...and that is a good thing! This last week before surgery is so hard...wish I could just hop on the operating room table and get it over with!!

    Surgery in 9 days

You are working so hard, Jeni... you will make it under 50! Keep an eye on the sodium content of everything, especially soups.
