  1. Things are moving slowly....still waiting my turn. IV was a problem...will do it in the OR. Will post when I can.
  2. So happy to hear that you are through the worst of the pain. You'll feel better and better every day...a trend that continues long after you get home. Congratulations, Amy... you've made it to the other side, and you will never have to go back to that fat misery!

My turn to tell my story!

I had surgery on Thursday night...I think it was Tuesday or Wednesday night when I took some drinks and realized: no pain! Today it is really easy for me to drink...even taking a pill is normal. BTW, I am taking a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) twice a day. Good luck...you won't even believe how much better you will feel in a week!

My turn to tell my story!

Tessies, Those hospital rooms can become very hot. It's a challenge to figure out the right setting on the heater. I'm so happy to hear that you are doing well. I remember the sharp pains that used to come when I drank something...but now (surgery was one week ago today), those pains are a distant memory. It just gets better and better every day!
  8. Have a good trip, Amy. Before you know it, you'll be walking the halls of Mi Doctor!
  9. SweetTee, Thanks so much for posting...so happy to hear that your are doing well. Believe me, it just keeps getting better and better.
  10. I know EXACTLY how you are feeling.. I appeared calm, but I was freaking out inside. .I survived the three days before my flight by just putting one foot in front of the other. It was pretty surreal, but that's what I had to do to keep moving forward..also kept reminding myself what my future would be if I backed out. You are almost at the finish line..hang in there!
  11. Amytug, I'm so excited for you...your time has come! You will do great. Just remember that the first few hours after surgery are tough, but it just keeps getting better and better. My surgery was less than a week ago and I am feeling great I'm sending good thoughts your way...
  12. I had surgery with Dr. Garcia on February 21st. Dr. Garcia had four surgery patients that day: an RNY revision; a band removal with revision to a sleeve; a sleeve plus gall bladder removal; and my sleeve surgery. I got to know the three other patients and we spent time together at the Marriott...we all recovered quickly and had minor discomfort (but no pain) after being discharged from the hospital. For me, it was noteworthy that Dr. Garcia leads a team of doctors who care for you. He is the surgeon (an exceptional one, in my opinion!); the other doctors on his team handle your hospital and post-op care. I felt very well cared for by all of them. I am home now and I feel great! I highly, highly recommend Dr. Garcia and his entire team.

    SCsleever in TJ

It's a beautiful day in Tijuana! I am feeling really good. Dr. Luna came to my hotel room around noon to remove the staples and put on steristrips.. The strips just stay there (no dressings on the incisions) until they fall off in about 5 days. The drain opening is different.must keep it covered and no Water on it while showering...then a little bit of wound care, but not much. BTW' I have 3 incisions and the drain opening. I have been using a tablet computer for email...wireless is free at hospital and hotel.. I have used my cell phone for calls only...got the Verizon Mexico add-on for $15 month, but I'll only have it for a week so cost will be prorated. A few of the women who were sleeved on Thursday went to Wal-Mart this afternoon...I walked around outside the hotel but took a pass on shopping. Sleevers here will be dining at 7 in the dining room...broth and popsicles for everyone! I'll be traveling all day tomorrow' so won't be posting for awhile. Thanks for all your support! I honestly believe that you folks at the VST Mexico forum gave me the confidence to come to TJ and have surgery with Dr. Garcia. Thank you! It was a great decision!

    SCsleever in TJ

I'm settled in at the Marriott. Got here about 2pm...had a nice nap and a wonderful shower. Got together with 3 other sleevers for broth and popsicles in the dining room. Feeling tired but otherwise it is hard to believe that my surgery was only 50 hours ago! As of right now, I'm not taking any pain meds and am feeling fine. Still getting some gas rumblings but they are minor. Amazing...no hunger or interest in food at all. Care at hospital was very good...will give more details later. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. I am sleeved and doing great!

hi everyone, Finally made it into surgery at 7 pm. All went well. Tough night gas pains, but night doctor was great. Still getting occasional sharp pains, but it is less frequent. Pain and nausea control meds in my IV. On the road to recovery! Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers.

    ON THE WAY HOME.....SLEEVED!

That is great news...so happy that you are sleeved and feeling good! Dear VST friends-I'm writing this from the Marriott....surgery tomorrow morning (Dr. Garcia). I'll post when I can.....first time using this tablet, so technical difficulties may delay my post. Also, there are 4 surgeries tomorrow -I could be last. Rosie said to ask the nurse for some "magic drops" to chill me out while I wait my turn! BTW she also said to expect a minimum 2 hour wait between the tests and surgery.....it takes that long for bloodwork results.. So the next time you hear from me, I'll be sleeved!

    Pre-op Victory

Congratulations, Salsha! You are doing a great job...keep up the good work! I know what you mean about those thoughts that creep in and say "Look how well you are doing with your food plan...you are losing weight...do you really need surgery?" But that is just my fear raising it's clever little head. My whole life has shown that I can stay on a food plan and lose weight..FOR AWHILE. Then something happens and I am off to the races with food, usually gaining back all the weight plus a few pounds more. I did my preop weigh-in this morning (I leave for Tijuana tomorrow morning) and have lost 15 lbs in about 12 days, so I know that I've now dropped that extra Water weight and my post-op numbers will be a little less stunning in the first few weeks. I am on the road to a healthier life and have made it to the first guidepost!

    GAAAAAAAAME TIIIIIIIIME!

You'll be struttin' your sleeve soon! Go walk those halls as soon as you can...
  23. alma at Ready 4A Change told me that Dr. Garcia had four surgeries on Thursday (me plus 3)... I guess that the others aren't on VST. I'm surprised that we haven't heard from more who are scheduled for this week...but those with surgery on Tuesday are probably already there. And the Wednesday surgery folks are busy getting everything ready to go! See you in Tijuana!

    HOLA! HOLA! HOLA!

You are so cool and collected... I'm very impressed! We'll all be waiting to hear from you after surgery... hope you are one of the lucky ones that doesn't have those nasty gas pains.

    Vitamin B-12

I have had Vitamin B-12 shots once a month for the past 4 months. I've also been on vitamin D capsules because my blood work showed low level of D. The two of them together definitely made me feel better... more energy and focus. Of course, then came the pre-op diet, which made me feel more tired and gave me major brain farts. My body is not going quietly into the low carbbohydrate, low fat world!!
