December 2012 Post Op Group
jodimc replied to Simplysouthern26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hiiiiii everyone!!! I haven't been on in for.ev.er! One major reason is because I ran out of room on my phone and had to delete the app! lol Time to upgrade. I came on today because I'm stalled and depressed because of it. But then I went to update my ticker and realized how far I've come. I need to get back on track with eating.... I'm uncomfortable with the selection I can now eat. I kind of miss the days when everything made me sick! Never thought I'd say that. You all look FANTASTIC!!!! Let me go find a recent pic of myself to share. -
I had such a hard time for the first 4-ish weeks. My calcium and potassium were low so I lost all control of my hands. My labs were reading that they were just a touch low so nobody wanted to treat me. I finally convinced a doctor that even though they were barely low on the scale... for my body, they were critically low. After that got fixed and my BP meds got regulated (I kept passing out from low BP) things have been great! But for the first month I HATED my decision and cried every day to be normal and happy again. I'm 8 weeks out, 52lbs down and SO glad I made this decision. Food is still hard for me. I just get so bored with the same options... I don't like having to think so much, just want to eat what's convenient.

http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2012/12/spiced-chai-banana-waffles.html I just had these ^^^^ OMG! So good! I used SF maple syrup on top. I felt so normal and happy! I"m menstrual so I needed something sweet and this hit the spot. -
I started the vitamins before surgery, and this didn't start until after. So I don't think that's it for me.

Gatorade G2 has been a life saver... Lots of flavors! And unsweetened tea (not caffeine free... I only do it 1-2x a week) -
Same thing here. Started two weeks out... Still have it at 8 weeks out. Docs can't explain it.. Just gave me steroid cream which doesn't help.
-
I just switched to the lactaid milk. Tastes exactly the same.
-
I'm seven weeks out and have still never felt full or that I've over eaten. No pressure, no pain. It's scary. I have to really watch my portions. Good thing is that a) after one bite I'm nauseous so I don't feel like over eating I am never really hungry... Just experience low blood sugar

Hey Ranee!!! I didn't realize you had made it over here!

Started my period today. Had a penny sized bite of chocolate. It was freakin delicious and I feel NO guilt. I'm super happy it didn't make me sick too.

Has anyone lost 200lbs?
jodimc replied to shawna29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would ideally like to lose 175lbs. 40 down! I have my ticket set to what my NUT said, but I'm only 5'1" so I would like to lose more. -
PB2 is powdered Peanut Butter that you can either pour directly into foods or reconstitute with Water or milk. Taking the oil out eliminates the fat. It tastes EXACTLY like peanut butter. You might miss that creamy texture, but the flavor is the same.

Omg this woman is driving me nuts on recovery
jodimc replied to workingmotherofthree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I came out of surgery on my foot like the pain in the ass patient. The surgeon put in an ankle block and no systemic pain meds. What he didn't know was that his ankle block (like an epidural, but in a nerve in your ankle) didn't work. So when I woke up from having 5 screws drilled into my bones, I felt every.little.detail. of that surgery. And there were no orders for meds for me until 8 hours later.... when they thought the ankle block would wear off. I've NEVER felt such pain in my life. And I cried and yelled and screamed until they finally understood that I needed some damned pain meds. So yeah. Sometimes, patients can't help it. Sorry you had to be stuck there with her though. -
I haven't tried nuts or nut butters yet. But it just sounds delish. But you know what I just remembered???? I have PB2 in the cabinet! I can use that and milk. Muahahhahahahaa! RNY, you have not defeated me this time!

I hope nobody ever thinks I"m being snotty. I feel like a bariatric idiot... I stumble through this thing daily. The grocery store makes me feel like a child because I don't know what's okay to touch and what's not. Usually when I make a comment like "Really?!?! ARe you sure that's okay?!?!" It's because I"m thinking "If it is okay, I'm definitely doing it!" LOL! Maybe I should start including that part so people will know I'm not shocked at what they're doing, but rather exploring what *I* can do too. Like peanut butter and oatmeal. Anyone here see a problem with that? Because I'm about to eat it.

Holy Bariatric Batman, that is tasty!

Peanut butter? Does it have to be natural? Or just any peanut butter? I'm thinking peanut butter in oatmeal sounds nice! -
My surgery was 12-12-12. I too was sleeping on my stomach at 5 days out. Gas pain lasts about a week.
-
The pain was 1/10th of what my foot surgery. I actually had little to no abdominal pain. It was the shoulder pain (from the gas they pump your stomach up with) that was the worst for me. I used the pain pump a lot in the hospital, but was also able to get up and shower, put on my own pj's, walk the halls, etc. A heating pad seems to help with some of the shoulder/upper back pain. If you survived foot and knee, you're going to fly through this without issue.

Crystal Light Saved My Life

Everything I'm finding online says citrical is from tri calcium phosphate, not citrate. Bummer. I was getting excited. -
Random- itchy bumps after rny?
jodimc replied to Natasha K's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine started 2 weeks out and have lasted until now. They start going away and then flare back up. They're worse the last two days, more of them and itchy-er. I don't take pain meds, so I dunno. -

Gen, if you haven't had a negative reaction to anesthesia before, chances are, you won't this time. You are going to be fine. -

I'm so tired of eating the same things over and over again. I'm so hungry right now but sick of everything I usually eat.
