rxkid2384 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
HI GUYS. GOT MY DATE AND STARTED MY 6 WEEK liquid DIET. IT'S PRETTY ROUGH. I AM SCARED, NERVOUS, YET A LITTLE EXCITED. TRYING TO STAY POSITIVE FOR A HOPEFUL OUTCOME. OBVIOUSLY, MY BIGGEST FEAR IS DEATH I UNDERSTAND THE WHOLE LIVER SHRINKAGE PART ETC. I HAVE ALREADY LOST 12LBS. I HOPE AND PRAY THAT I LOSE AT LEAST A TOTAL OF 25LBS BEFORE SURGERY. THAT IS MY GOAL. I STARTED AT 372 AND NOW I AM 360. I JUST WANT THE SURGEON TO HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM ETC. I HAVE A BRAND NEW BABY GIRL AND A WIFE AND FAMILY AND I JUST WANT TO BE THERE FOR THEM FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. SO I HAVE ABOUT 5 WEEKS LEFT. ANY TIPS OR ADVICE? IT'S GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM MY FAMILY TO YOURS!!!! -

so i got my date of January 8th and of course i am wicked nervous, also a little excited. i've already lost a good 10 lbs......i start my liquid diet on 12/8/12. i am hoping to lose at least a total of 20-25lbs before surgery. anways. right now im like 360lbs but i am really strong. like i can bench 200lbs and squat probably 250lbs believe it or not. i was a big eater and drinker. i could crush a lot of food. 1/2lb burgers fries rings and half of my wifes burgers. plus a few cokes and a few beers. i was like a bottomless pitt. honestly. my question is, after this surgery in January, how am i going to feel? i know the 1st month or 2 will suck. im talking like 6 months out,. will i feel weak? or strong? energized or lazy bc i havent eaten. can i lift weights at the gym or will i feel too tired. can anyone drink beer(s) ? eat a burger or steak ? just curious.

Surgery Date Of 01/08/2013 Some Concerns, Hopes, And Worries. Help Appreciated. Thanks
rxkid2384 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
hi again, so my date is coming really soon. starting december 1st i will start 6 weeks of a liquid diet. i am trying hard to lose weight and exercise now. i want to be as ready and as healthy as possible. i want to shrink my liver and work extra hard because my biggest fear overall is death. new concerns are leaks and blood-clots. how long after surgery do i need to worry about clots forming and leaks?? when will i know i am 100% ok and healed. is it the 1 month marker ? any additional help and tips is greatly appreciated. thank you -
Hi guys, I am very new to this site. I've posted before like a month ago. everyone was really helpful. So i just got my official date of surgery. it is January 8th. I am so scared, nervous, yet excited. I just hope I'm ok and make it out alive. death is by far my biggest and greatest fear. I just want to live and be ok for my baby girl, my wife, my family, friends, and myself. i need to fast with a liquid diet for 6 weeks before i have my surgery, per my surgeon. anyone else have to fast for 6 weeks? i heard 2 weeks was the norm... maybe it's because i do weight 370?? actually i am now down to 362. i am trying a little to lose weight even before my liquid diet. i want my liver to be small so the doctors can get in and out and i have a better chance of survival/recovery etc. so has anyone done the liquid diet? what is it like? is it all like Protein shakes, slim fast, boost and ensure and Water? any coffee or alcohol at all? i doubt alcohol bc that effects the liver correct? what is life right after surgery. i am expect the first week to be brutal. people say they wish they never had it during the first few days, that true? what can you eat and drink? also well after surgery, can you drink coffee and alcohol or no? how about beer and soda, can you have drink that ever again? also how do you guys eat now? are the portions really that small?? any additional tips or advice is greatly appreciated. from the bottom of my heart. i thank you.

New Dad/husband. Scared Straight. Just Got My Surgery Date. Please Help With Advice
rxkid2384 replied to rxkid2384's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
thank you guys so much. you're words, advice, and experience really helps me and it means a lot. thank you. i am really excited to see what life will bring with the weight loss. i've been heavy pretty much my entire life. probably starting around 12,13,14 somewhere in there. always husky and overweight with a belly. id say after highschool, college time, i really blew up. about 5 years ago i lost about 80lbs. kept it off for maybe a year. even then though i was still weighing around 265-270lbs. which is still a lot. you know? but back then i watched what i ate plus worked out 7 days a week for 1 year solid. but back then i was living at home, no wife, no kid, and only 1 mediocre job. now i got married have a baby bought a house and work 2 jobs so its like how can i work out??? i mean i know i shouldnt eat crap still but id say lack of exercise is my downfall and the fact that i have no time now. but still like i said there's no excuse for fast food like mcdonalds and chinese and soda and chips and icecream etc :'( -
Scared Straight! New Dad/husband, Thinking About Vgs- Please Help!
rxkid2384 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everyone, first off...thanks for your time, thoughts, and input in advance. I really appreciate it. I am seriously thinking about the VGS. My PCP and Weigth Doctor both think I should get it. I am the biggest I've ever been my entire life. I currently weigh 370lbs. As stated up above, my wife and I just had a baby and she will be 8 months on the 16th. She is my pride and joy. I love her so much. she is my heart. I want to do this for her. My wife, family, and myself included. However my baby will be my motivation. Which brings me to my next concern. I am so scared and afraid that I will have a serious complication during surgery. I am afraid that something really bad will happen-like death. I don't want to leave my baby and family. I could go without food for the rest of my life. i just don't want to die or having something else seriously happen. overrall i'm generally in good health. My blood pressure is fine and my cholesterol is low believe it or not. I don't have diabetes or anything-just some asthma and sleep apnea. I am trying my best to eat right and walk now. my plan/goal is to lose at least 25lbs before my surgery. i want the surgeon to have plenty of room in there. I also want my heart to be stronger for the surgery. I am just a worried wort is all. I plan on getting it done at the "#1 Hospital in the Nation-2012" so i think i should be fine. i'm just really nervous. but i know the life i'm living is now with all this weight is not healthy or good. i think i can be a better dad, husband, family member and friend if i lost weight and was healthy. that way i could be around a lot longer for them. any thoughts ideas suggestions, input is greatly appreciated. thanks for listening. -

simply amazing and incredible!!! I don't just 'like' your comments, I "LOVE" all of them. thanks again to all of you. Yes - I am getting my surgery done at Mass.General Hospital in Boston. The Hospital is Ranked #1 in the Nation. Not sure where they rank for weight loss surgeries but I'm sure they're great at it. Yeah I mean, I'm not afraid of missing out on soda or coffee or fast food or anything. I can and will go without, seriously. I just wish I could know I'll be ok and make it out alive without complications. that is why I am trying my absolute best to work on my weight and health now. I pray I will be ok and I will have faith. -

wow. thank you all so very much! from the bottom of my heavy heart, i can't thank you all enough for taking the time out to help me. i agree, being at my current weight is really dangerous for my health. And i know it's really risky to be this big. probably more of a risk than the surgery, you're correct. what about eating and drinking? does everyone wait 30 minutes before or after a meal to drink something? how small are the portions? can you eat 1/2 a burger etc? how about coffee, soda, beer, or regular alcohol ? can you have any. i know i shouldn't want any of these things, i'm just curious. I am trying to eliminate them all from my diet as we speak, including, chinese food, pizza, all soda (including diet) and chips and ice cream! any additional tips is appreciated. thanks again and God Bless you all !!!
