Has Anyone Used Flex Spending Account For Mexico Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
rahnava replied to ShoeLover's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
We have the Benny Card through my Husband's job https://www.mybenny.com. It's a mastercard set up as a FSA and the money is available now. I did not think of using this for the surgery until last week or I could have signed up through my job and paid for the entire surgery myself. Some cards will not reimburse for elective surgery, but as someone mentioned earlier, a letter of medical necessity will do or if it is a credit card it has to be processed through a merchant who is approved. -

Gastric Sleeve And This Will Help Me?
rahnava replied to momofthree's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I have three kids also and my lap band worked until it didn't anymore. I was disappointed and so was my Husband. I blamed myself until I found out that a lot of bands were failing. This tool will only help you if you choose to work with it. I am already planning my Mommy Makeover in three years and I haven't even had my surgery yet! I am on my pre op diet and even though it is hard I know that when I have surgery in three weeks I will be extending the time I have with my babies. They are worth trying and failing for over and over again. I will keep going until I find what works for me. Your Hubby needs to be more supportive and say more positive things. Mine is scared too because he is worried since the band didn't work and it's a major surgery, but he is also excited for me. He knows I will be happier if I am smaller. -

I paid my deposit out of pocket but used some of my FSA funds to pay down my surgery costs. The coordinator ran the card through the coded merchant just like gottago mentioned above and it went through. -
When I had my lapband (it's gone now). I went to Puerto Villarta and the flight wasn't bad. I took a pain pill and slept most of the way. I am having my surgery on Jan 30th with Dr. Garcia and I am flying to San Diego from Louisiana which is a long trip. Don't be afraid. I was paranoid about blood clots but everything seemed to be fine. I walked a lot in Mexico and plan on doing the same this time.

How Long Does It Take For Coordinator To Get Back To Me ?
rahnava replied to jeweladdo's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My coordinator is Sandy at alighterme and I had the choice of both Dr. Kelly and Dr. Garcia. I had to pay extra for a high BMI so I choose Garcia and he has worked closely with Dr. Kelly and uses the same facility. I paid my deposit and an additional amount (trying to pay it all before surgery) with my FSA. I emailed Sandy and she called me to do the payment over the phone. They bill it through their parent company who is coded to accept the FSA card. I've spoken with a few of Dr. Garcia's patients and I feel secure with using him. I wouldn't chance anything happening to me because I have three kids to raise. I would honestly see either doctor. -

Band To Sleeve - I Can't Believe How Sad I Am About All This.
rahnava replied to kimmr's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've been there! I had to have my band removed because it eroded through my stomach. I lost 70 pounds and I've gained it all back. Right now I don't have a band, but my stomach is healed. I WILL be sleeved by the end of the month. I went to Mexico for the band and I am going back for the sleeve. I value my life so the decision to go to Mexico was not taken lightly. The care I had there was superb and my band was overtightened in the U.S. so Mexico is not to blame. I mourned my band. I was sad because I paid $10,000 for this tool and it failed me and could have killed me. Nevertheless I am determined to fix my weight problem. We are not rich and do not have money saved for our kids college tuition, but my Husband is employed at a major University where my kids can go for free, which helps. I am funding my surgery through methods I do not wish to put on a public board, but it is legal nevertheless (PM me, I will share). But I know how you feel. I am there too. Be encouraged. -
What Should I Tell My Doctor?
rahnava replied to Strongarm's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My insurance does not cover weight loss surgery OR complications from weight loss surgery so either I will have to not tell my PCP or better yet, I will ask that he is discreet and not use obesity as my primary diagnosis. I would rather be honest and tell him when and where so he could order the right follow up testing. -
Going To Mexico For My ...again! Lap Band To Gastric Sleeve Surgery
rahnava posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am working this week to schedule my sleeve surgery with Dr. Garcia for January 30th. Back in 2006 I went to Mexico for a lapband with Dr. Joya. Mexico was great and I enjoyed the experience until my band eroded into my stomach. I've since had it removed and I am healed and cleared for the sleeve. Has anyone ever had this experience and are going to or had the sleeve? I'm totally excited to go back to Mexico. I've never been to a hospital where you ring the call bell and hear people run down the hall. -
That's awesome. I am in the process of setting up my sleeve date of Jan 30th and I am ready. I had my lapband removed after it eroded into my stomach and gained the 70 pounds I lost. I have to lose over 200 pounds so I am ready to use my tool and get active also. I am confidence, but I see it as a "big girl" confidence because I have a good sense of humor. I am ready to feel sexy and actually be sexy. My children are 16, 15, and 10, and 10 years is too long to still have to lose baby weight. We are in the same boat. It makes me feel better. I am going to Dr. Garcia in Mexico by the way. So here's to our journey!

Going To Mexico For My ...again! Lap Band To Gastric Sleeve Surgery
rahnava replied to rahnava's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am not offended at all. lol. When I am comfortable enough to post a picture I will. Eventually I will get rid of the clown and change it to something more friendly. -
I just found out on Wednesday that my band eroded. I have an exclusion on my policy for WLS. The hospital sent my medical records in fr a medical review and the insurance approved my band removal for medical reasons.

I was banded by Dr. Joya in Mexico and just relocated back to Louisiana from TX. I need a fill Dr. that is at least close to New Orleans or Laplace, LA. I also need one that is only going to charge per fill and not make me commit to $1000. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks for the info. I am going to call him today. I've been eating like a pig since I've been back. You know how it is to not have that home cooking for a while. I am at 5.5 ccs and I just recently lost restriction. When I get a fill it usually lasts for about a month and a half until I lose a few pounds then I am back to no restriction. I cannot wait to hit the sweet spot. Again, thanks for the information.
