October 17Th'ers.. Where Are Ya?
PostalMora replied to imlosingit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too, have been in a stall, I'm so bummed. The shakes are making me constipated. I focus on what I do eat has protein, but still fall short of the recommended 80+ grams a day. It takes so long to eat a quarter cup of any meal that I end up eating cold food. I live in a house with 4 men, if I don't grab that little bit when do, its gone, not that they are uncaring, it just happens. I know there are things I could do differently, but to be honest, I feel overwhelmed. Starting back to work has been a challenge, there is no way i can go to my job and not lift 15+ lbs, and I'm getting help as much as I can. It's just not possible. If I take sick leave, I don't bring home as much money as I would if I worked, because i get paid mileage ( which can be 300+ a pay check, so no small potatoes in my book). I need to put on my big girl panties and keep on keeping on, hopefully the small chances I can make will help everything catch up. -

Went back to work today. I am worn out!!! I am a rural letter carrier. People see their mail carrier riding around in their mail truck and think that's all we do. Let me tell you that is only part of the job. Standing for the 5 hours this morning getting all the mail reading to deliver was enough to make me want to crawl back in bed. Then the 4 hours spent on the route, walking packages up to the doors. This day has definitely been the most I've moved since the surgery. I will sleep so good tonight! It's a good tired. jhumphries77- I have been thinking of you these last few days, hope all is well with you. Wish I had better advice that would help you out. We all may be on a similar path, but we have our different challenges. Take care. -
Skin Tiightening Procedures? What Non Surgical Works?

Whats the harm in having a conversation? Not all people have the same skin damage as you. We are all adults that researched a serious operation to save our lives, I think we can handle a conversation about topical creams and wraps without causing a mass hysteria. -

Hey Tigger, I had what is called the Spyder Sleeve. One incision in the belly button and one small dot right below between my breast for the camera. I was in and out in a couple of hours. The woman who had surgery before me had hernias and must have been a revision because her surgery was 8 hours! Also a friend of mine had the full bypass and had a stomach tube for a couple of weeks after surgery. It all depends on the individual situation. I, too, am having trouble getting all the required protein, I hope you get to feeling better soon. -

Kmasden- it's like you're typing the way I feel. Really trying to figure this all out - I worry about the protein, water, stalling - I've tried tomato soup and can only eat half( not sure how many ounces). But like you said, I want to stay conservative on what I do try and try the unflavored protein in as much of a variety of foods to help get the protein count higher. Thanks for sharing, you've helped me today! -

It is interesting and challenging learning what our bodies are saying to us now. I feel for my fellow 17thers, just know we are not alone, we have each other. We know what each other are going through. We can get through liquid diets and puréed food and feel amazing when we do those things that gave us the intense desire to change our lives. Funny thing for me(what started this process for me), is having a granddaughter. After spending years avoiding pictures, being the photographer. I realized I wanted her to know without a doubt I was there throughout her life, not only just feel like I've been there. I also wanted to talk her places and be able to participate in the activity, instead of sitting on the sidelines. Two years ago, my husband, oldest son and I hiked up to Mt LeConte Lodge. A hike that should have taken 3 hours by the route we chose, it took me 6. I want to go back and take my granddaughter, I will get there. -

Along with the intake of fluids to hydrate the skin and time for the skin to catch up to the changes our bodies are going through, I would think anything that encourages circulation would also be beneficial. Massages, lotions (especially for people in the dry areas of the country) and wraps not only make you feel better physically, but gets the blood flowing to problem areas, along with exercise. With that said, Team Jaspersgirl, can you please PM me the info that you have found to work for you. I appreciate any chance to pamper myself at this time. I abused and took for granted my body for so long, and now I need to make it up to myself. Thank you. -

Hi!! I was sleeved 10/17, I feel pretty good and am down 22lbs so far! Still struggling to get all the protein and water down, but got a few things to try from the nutritionist, so today is a new day to do better. The one thing that surprised me is missing food so much! I didn't realized that part of my issues with food. The normalcy of chewing will be most welcomed! lol Thanks for the recipes, looking forward to trying those. -
Going Bak To Work?

I had the surgery 10-17, throughout my pre-op I was told I would be out only 2 weeks. I'm a Rural Mail Carrier and my job is very physical, especially with all this political mail (imagine all the stuff you're getting times 700-800 homes!). I was so anxious about it, stressing until my surgeon asked when did I want to go back, it wasn't a big deal, The truth is, you now what your job requires and you know what your body is is up for now, listen to yourself and relax. Take care of yourself and I hope the issues with naseua resolves itself soon! -
Had my surgery on 10/17/12.... up until now was really wondering what the hell I was thinking. Well, really, I'm still thinking that. I'm just out of sorts. My Dr wants me to stay on Protein shakes, Water and yogurt for the first 21 days. That was making me feel so lethargic and yucky. Yesterday I ate three or four bites of egg and instantly felt better. Is it the different type of protein or is it just in my head? I'm still getting weak quicker than I expect. Still trying to find comfort zone. I started this process to be healthier for my granddaughter. To be able to be active and live longer with her. That is my prize, so each pound lost is more time with her, thus worth every minute of any discomfort I may have.
