    Afib after surgery

I had gastric sleeve surgery in November, 2012. Two weeks after surgery I went into A-Fib also. My heart was racing (177 beats per minute) and heart skipping beats. I was taken to hospital and given drugs through an IV to slow it down. I have had A-Fib off and on, ever since the first surgery. I just had a revision to gastric bypass two weeks ago and the fourth day out from surgery, I went into A-Fib again. My surgeon and cardiologist were prepared as I was closely monitored during my hospital stay. I spent three more days in the hospital and they were able to get my heart rate back down and get into a regular rhythm again. I am supposed to get a procedure called an "Ablation" in January, 2015, which will take care of the erratic heartbeat. I never had any trouble with my heart until the first surgery.

    panniculectomy

I just saw my surgeon this afternoon (Wed. Feb. 6) and she told me that Blue Cross will pay for removal of panni after one year from surgery date and a 100 pounds loss. Also, if you have sores and irritated skin it needs to be documented with pictures for more proof that you need this surgery.

Sleeved November 11 in Port Huron by Dr. Karen McFarlane.

    Surgeons

My primary care physician insisted I see this particular surgeon.
  11. Sleeved Nov. 7--lost 17 pounds before surgery, lost another 12 after surgery. I have been the same weight for over two weeks, going on three weeks. Don't have any problems tolerating food or beverages so I am lucky there. Really wanted to get another 10 off before Christmas, but can't get the scales to move--ugh!!

    Am I An Anomaly?

I was sleeved on Nov. 7 and I don't feel any restriction and I haven't lost any weight for 9 days. I am very disappointed so far and for everything I put myself and family through with this surgery, I feel I should be further along. I am meeting with NUT and surgeon tomorrow.

    Cold

    Especially my feet !
  14. I was in the hospital 2 nights also. Slept most of the time the day after surgery. Didn't use phone, I-pad or anything else, didn't feel well enough.
  15. Sleeved on the 7th--not feeling too bad. Still some soreness but each day is better. I can't get all the protein in yet, still working on my first shake of the day. Had a yogurt for breakfast and 1/4 cup of low sodium chicken broth for lunch. My main issue is hunger, I was starving yesterday, not as bad today. Took a shower today, got dressed and then had to sit down and relax. Would like the hunger issue to go away. Hang in there all!
  16. I had my surgery last Wed., Nov. 7. All went well, but today I am starving ! My stomach is rumbling. I have had 2 protein drinks today, 1/4 cup of low sodium chicken broth, 1 sugar free pudding, and 1 sugar free jello. Not as much water as I need but I am trying. I was hoping I wouldn't be so hungry after the surgery. Any suggestions?

    November 5, 2012

Let me tell you my story. As a young child I wasn't overweight but when puberty hit I gained weight. I was physically active during my high school years, I participated in outdoor winter sports, loved gym class and swam in the summer months. College life was great, although heavier than most I still enjoyed the social life and even managed to snag a boyfriend. After college I waited on tables at a local restaurant and managed to slim down to a nice weight for me and looked pretty good. Got married, found a job in my profession, and then gained weight. My job wasn't physically demanding and marriage wasn't very good, so you can imagine the pounds piled on quickly. Got out of the marriage and after some time passed I joined Weight Watchers, lost 70 pounds and was looking good again. Another marriage (this time a good one), job was good and so was the food I was fixing for family. Weight came back again and I tried Weight Watchers again, lost weight, and then gained it back (numerous times and each time added a little more weight--does Yo-Yo dieting fit here?) Two years ago I lost 35 pounds. It only took 6 months to gain it back again plus another 20 pounds. The last time I went to Weight Watchers, I paid my money but just couldn't make myself do it all again. April, 2012, I spoke to my primary care physician and started the process to get a sleeve. I had to weigh in for 6 months--I never lost a pound, in fact I gained during the 6 months. (Also during this time my father died so it wasn't a great time to try to diet-or so I told myself.) Had the psych evaluation last May and a scope of my esophagus. In October, I finished up the weigh-ins, had an EKG, blood work, and sleep study--all in preparation for surgery. Yes, I have sleep apnea. My insurance approved me and in two days I will be at the hospital having my surgery. I have been struggling through the Pre-Op diet and managed to lose 12 pounds with one more day to go. Liquid diet for the day before surgery and then surgery on Wednesday, November 6. I can't believe I am having bariatric surgery in two days, it doesn't seem real to me! I tried other ways to lose this weight and nothing worked. So I have committed myself to this process and hope to God it works. Nothing else has worked and I got myself into this and I am the only one that can get me out of it. I So, here's to a successful surgery and looking and feeling better in the future.

    Failing This Pre-Op Thing.

I also gained on my 6 month weight loss, about 10 lbs. I was approved for surgery by my insurance this week.
  23. I am starving tonight. I am allowed 3 protein shakes, 2 salads, and one yogurt. Does it get easier?
