I am actually doing great. Surgery was May 7th & I'm 71 pounds down. I love that I can move more & do more things. Dinner tonight is Quinoa (which I just love) with stir fry veggies & feta cheese. It's great protein & it fills you up.

Hi. Don't get too frustrated. I went through periods of a little gain then a big loss. I'm 11 weeks out & only in the last month have I lost a significant amount. Don't worry it will come off. Keep up the good work

    MAY 2013 POST-OP GROUP

So I haven't updated in a while but I am still here. It will be 10 weeks tomorrow since I've had my surgery (May 7th). It was tough in the beginning but I think I have hit my stride. I am 69 pounds down and everything is loose including my clothes . I am eating well (even though my body does allow me to eat sugar) but I make the choice not to eat it. Started working out during the week which includes water aerobics twice a week, the elliptical three times a week, and weight training three times a week. I have started hiking again which I so missed and I walk around my place or the river when I can. I love being this active and I can tell the difference in the way I walk and sit. My goal is to be 100 pounds down by my August 21st post-op appointment. Of course it's a goal and if I don't reach it then I will shortly after. Still not able to cross my legs but I will be there soon. I hope everyone is doing good. I don't have any pictures yet but hope to have some posted in the next few months.

    Weight loss and excercise

I had my surgery on May 7th and I started working out a few weeks ago. I tried going back about 2 weeks after surgery because I was cleared and boy was that a mistake. I had to wait a while before I was able to do anything....even walking would take it out of me. I started taking my vitamins regularly and increased my protein (Premier Protein from Costco has 30gms each which is a good amount). I would say just try a little at a time each day and soon you will be doing everything you ever wanted. I never thought that I would be using the elliptical but I have. I do that 3 days a week with weight training. I also do water aerobics twice a week. On the weekends I usually hike somewhere on Saturdays and leave Sundays for rest is I choose. Your energy will come back soon but remember you had major surgery and it takes time for our bodies to heal. I hope this helps

    water aerobics

I tried it once & didn't much care for it. We have a water kickboxing class that is real good. Works all your muscles.

    Soon to be ...

Rest as much as possible. I tried to go back to normal too soon and I paid for it. Now I am good but rest, water, and more rest is the key to being successful.

    water aerobics

I have been doing water aerobics on and off for the last 10 years. When I hurt my knees before the surgery it was a life saver. Now I do it twice a week on the days where it is more carbo driven. I have now moved on to the elliptical which is now my favorite machine. I think that if you are happy with it, stick to it. It does help tone and the baggy skin will go away.
  15. I have a few ideas as to what I will be eating but I will take any ideas for what I can eat. I'm just so happy I don't have to puree anything every again. I was so sick and tired of that phase! Thank you
  16. Congratulations and welcome Like everyone else has mentioned research as much as possible and ask as many questions of us all. We are here to help and this is a good thing. I never had any surgeries before this and was a little scared. The day of surgery I had my best girlfriend with me and she helped keep my mind off the whole process. The hardest part is before the surgery because you don't have restrictions and technically can eat anything. Afterwards is when the work begins but your new tummy tells you what it likes and doesn't like. I recommend picking up the book, "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies." It was a great start and it still helps me when I need to look back. Join My Fitness Pal and start tracking what you are eating (of course I haven't been the best with this part ) Just remember you are human and not perfect so little slips here and there will not stop the process. Listen to your doctors and those in the office. They know what they are doing. Also, this is a huge one, try and remember that there will be people around you that might not like what you are about to do. Don't worry about them, they have no idea what it is like and this is your process. Again, welcome and good luck!

    New 2 RNY Talk

Welcome Don't hesitate to ask as many questions as you can. Don't be afraid to ask those questions that you might not feel is unimportant. Trust me I ask some doozies before my surgery. We are here to help with anything. Good luck on your journey and look forward to seeing your progress.
  18. Heather, I am so proud of you and the accomplishments that you have made. Like you I must have an Iron stomach too because I don't dump. I don't even have an issue with sugar but that doesn't mean I have been in the candy section at the store. I do make better choices and I have been working out almost every day. I am 7 weeks out and I have lost 65pds so far. I am doing great and even though the weight isn't flying off I feel great in my skin which hasn't been the case most of my life. I want to thank you because you were one of those individuals I would look too before I had my surgery. Even though I was scared most of the time I think you as well as others helped me get through it. I am loving the energy I have and the flexibility I have now with my joints. You are looking awesome and keep up the good work. It can only get better from here.
  19. Thank you for saying these words. I have been scared that it will fail. I'm 5 weeks out & have stalled for the last 2 weeks. I know this will work I just need to let it happen. Started soft foods so I know exercise will be in my future. Your post gives me hope that the weight will come off

    Friday Weigh-In!

I have been in a 2 week stall after gaining a few pounds. It has been interesting but I am not letting this deter me. At least I start to workout next week and I know that will get me out of this stall. Highest Weight: 425 Surgery Weight: 390 Current Weight: 380

    Scared to really start exercising

I tried going back only after 2 weeks when the doc cleared me but it was too soon. I decided to wait a few more weeks. It will be 5 weeks next Tuesday and I'm starting then. Getting in the water a few times a week and then walking on the treadmill. My incisions have healed and I feel so much better. Listen to your body cause I'm telling you I dived in way too soon and I paid the price. My stomach felt tight and now it doesn't. I so can't wait to get back into the gym.....I keep getting harassed by my friends there (in a good way of course) and can't wait to get back in the groove of things.
  22. I am 4 weeks out & seem to be gaining weight. I'm still 50 pds down but can't seem to get past 375. I know it's frustrating but we'll get through it & lose what we want to. Hang in there.

    MAY 2013 POST-OP GROUP

I get dumping from anything like that. It's the sweetener. My nut said to try the ones with stevia because that's more natural. I'd step away from those for a few weeks & try again. It sucks because I love that stuff. Hang in there you might like them eventually.
