How long after surgery is pregnancy an option?
Evilah replied to Jen and David's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've read a year. My surgeon didn't give me a time frame, but said pregnancy is okay after the band. Maybe after I get it, I will get a time frame from him. Evilah -
I'm telling you that based on what I hear in the news, I've never heard of a woman killing her kids in any other state. I'm not a news or history buff, so I can't claim expert status.

I would appreciate a decent reply post however. Like a link, or data relating the rate of child killlings by their mothers in other states. California has alot of people too, and I don't hear repeatedly on the news about mothers there killing their kids.

I didn't say women in Texas are prone to kill their kids. I said it seemed that way, based on those news blips. I was hoping someone would post about why (if it only seems to be that texas mothers are prone to killing their kids) another human being might get that impression. A reason like skewed news coverage, or factual stats, or excess/novel Yates coverage.

Evilah

PS. Why are you so oppositional? Can't you just take a comment for it's face value instead of assigning negative connotations?

Anyone have any ideas why texas mothers in particular seem prone to killing their kids?

leatha g, I think it's an outrage that mexican's and islanders get to come here and stay because they can walk or boat in. I've never lived in Mexico, or one of those islands, but I have lived in the east, and it's just not fair. In fact, people who live in those countries (so far away, they would have to fly in) complain about the unfairness of it. Jasmine, I really resent it when people choose not to learn and use english. Even if your english is heavily accented or your sentence construction is wrong, I will try my best (which I've been told is pretty good since I speak other languages and have lived overseas) to understand your english. For me, when I see a hispanic person who isn't even close to speaking english, I begin to suspect he/she is illegal. Otherwise, I probably would never think you're illegal by your looks unless I saw you standing behind home depot asking for "trabajo". But then one of my two best friends in college is hispanic, and the other is half hispanic. Both are intelligent and well-educated and are an asset, I think, to this country. In fact, the one whose parents are both Mexican, has 7 brothers and sisters and most of them have college degrees. But I also think that this is not the typical situation for the children of Mexican immigrants Evilah

I love flaxseed oil, but I made a huge mistake trying to take it straight. I threw up and now I have that feeling about it--- the way you feel about things that have made you vomit. I have had some success with mixing a serving of flaxseed oil with a tbsp of nut butter-- I can hardly taste it that way. I think your tongue and nose only have so many receptors that can register lipids and aromatics of oil, so if you mix it with something else fatty, not so much of the flax taste gets the chance to touch your taste and smell receptors. Also, I keep mine in the fridge. Evilah

Pinenut, I know I've never met you but I look at your haircut /picture every time I post here and sort of feel like I recognize you. The point is, at the gym, I saw someone who was skinny but had hair like you do in your picture and sort of looked like you and I thought, HEY that's what pinenut will look like soon! YAY! Wenjea, I took a fat picture before I decided to lose my "last meal" attitude. But thanks for reminding! Dr. Oh patients--- Do you guys do barium swallows to check the band location? Did you get catheterized?? ljuht! I'm so glad you're doing well!!! That sounds like a long ordeal, but at least you're not having gas pain! Did you ever find out what the emergency surgery was? Was it a bariatric patient? Evilah

I'm sorry I read this thread again... it makes me sick to think of children being mistreated. I know it exists... but it's so horrible. Evilah

Bjean, I encountered a similar situation on another board. It seems every board has it's own pack of wolves. I got several PM's from others on the board telling me not to let them bother me, and not to leave. BUT! After some reading in that board's equivalent of the rants and raves section, I realized that most of the posters were very young ... not so mature, and not very knowledgeable. It's ashamed that people can gang up like this, and it seems to happen with all age groups and all sorts of people. Sorry it happened to you, glad to hear your opinion, even if it's dissenting, as long as it's politely put. Evilah

Soes the aloe, pecid, and ginger work? I don't want to take nexium or protonix becuase I read the studies, and I think the risk of side effects associated with them is too high. How do the ale and ginger work? Evilah

I wish it were law that "at-risk" parents would be interviewed or visited a couple of times by a social worker during pregnancy and during the baby's first year... It should a support program, becaue I see a baby getting injured by a young parent on the news like every other day. It's disturbing.

Low income, young, jobless, single (etc) parents need help. I'm not making any judgements about these people, I'm just saying that youth, lack of money, lack of support are serious problems and people need help. Parents just don't get the help they need raising their children. It's hard to raise a child and too many people do it without the help they need. It's a strain on the parents, and the children suffer. We need more non-religious organizations to help parents with this huge new job: parenting.

Evilah

look for a support group in your area, rely more on your mind to control your eating habits and less on your bad. The upside of losing it slowly is that your skin has time to catch up and you end up with more normal looking skin when you're done, so don't fret so much over losing slowly! Evilah -
yeah, I think that the Protein is derived from the seeds, and the protein isn't very concentrated, but it contains vital amino acides and tons of fber, so I guess as a protein supplement it's okay... just something to up your protein intake a bit more. I'm trying to work out what level of protein sustains me. My dr. seems to think it's 90g per day, but I've been doing some reading and i think it's more like 60 Any ideas about how much protein one should get based on their body mass/ ? evilah

I priced out hemp milk yesterday... OMG $4.00 for the same size as a $2.00 container of organic soy milk, or almond milk.... YIPES! I have the hemp protein powder, but I find when I add it to drinks without a lot of sugar that the taste is very obvious. Maybe I'll just get over it, because I like the amino acid content of hemp protein

There are a few affluent companies who are in this country. Otherwise, the poverty rate (especially for children) is worse than for the rest of the developed world. (the definition of a "developed country" varies) Compared to other modernized countries, we have a lower standard of living, less savings, more debt. We work longer hours, and take fewer vacations. I'm so sick of the rest of the world looking at us like we have life handed to us. As for myself and most people I know, we work very hard just have a place to live, and food to eat, and to care for our children. Because of popular media and reality tv, it is a worldwide misconception that americans are wealthy. A very small percentage of americans are wealthy, and for the past thirty years, accounting for inflation, american's salaries have been in steady decline, while the small percentage of wealthy are by comparison to the average american, wealthier than ever before. Australia-- 12.6 % of your children live in poverty. (Australia, you are considered a "rich" nation, along with the US and most european nations) Of all "rich" nations, the only nation with more children living in poverty than the US, is Mexico. US has 22.4% of it's children living in poverty, and mexico has 26.2% of it's children living in poverty. http://www.unicef-icdc.org/publications/pdf/repcard1e.pdf Evilah

Did anyone else feel like this before surgery?
Evilah replied to AudreyG's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
hye my insurance approved 100% too. i don't think people often say that if it did, and I wonder how many insurance companies approve 100%. (Most people only post about payment if they're self-pay or insurance only pays for part of the sruger) -
1. it was MY lawn and MY lawn company. 2. I stated it was one more reason to support my already existing view. This is not a sweeping generalization or hyperbolic. I never used it as a single reason to support my opposition to illegal immigration. I did not make a statement of my view and use this one example to support it. I just told a story about what happened to me, then related it to my already existing view. I didn't even explain my view in that post, it was just an addendum to the story. 3. If by wishy washy, you mean that I could not directly prove this person's citizenship... It is my calculated opinion that he is here illegally. Possibly not an accurate conclusion, but certainly one with reason. By generalization, do you mean the implication that all illegal immigrants do not know this countries laws? Yes it is a generalization, but it is also accurate. Most illegals do not know the laws here. 4. I'm not hurt; misphrasing and putting words in other's mouths makes sensible communication impossible, and it is one of my pet peeves. I thought this story was relevant to this thread because it illustrated how the these individuals who my neighbor's and I have hired to maintain our lawns has annoyed me. No one gets anywhere if an effort is not made to understand precisely the meaning of what someone else says. Because people are intellectually incapable of creating a dimensional understanding of the thousands and thousands of people they encounter, they tend to create a set of personas which they are familiar with and understand, and to treat new people as one of the existing, familiar, and known personas. (hence our terrible vulnerability to forming prejudices) Unfortunately we do not live in 200 member tribal societies anymore, and it takes a concerted effort to continually attach meaning and revelance and dimension to NEW personas with unique sets of experiences, daily, thousands and thousands of times over. It's a barrier to communication, and we should all be aware of this human shortcoming and attempt to overcome it. Add this communication problem to the fact that most people think they are more intelligent or more righteous than people they don't know, or who they have minimal contact with, (and that because of this most tend to form a view of the unknown that is more negatively slanted than positive) and it's amazing anyone ever talks to anyone at all. Lucy About illegal immigration, I have a very hard time understanding how someone can be "for" something that is illegal. But I continue to make efforts to understand it, and would be happy to hear your views and reasoning here if you want to give it. I will not try to change your mind, or debate your position. I am simply interested in adding to my body of knowledge another person's viewpoint. Happy Posting, Evilah

Banded at Northwest Weight Loss (Everett)
Evilah replied to Evilah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
is their a "clear" Protein? evilah -
ljuht, how did your surgery go? o2bethin... I'm sorry about all of your insurance troubles... I am approved but the surgery date has been delayed. At first I just wanted to eat like wild... you know... last ride sort of thing. Now I'm taking the opportunity to teach myself to eat the way I will after the band and also to practice the liquid diet. It's hard but I practice chewing well, small bites, one bite per minute and not drinking with meals, eating protein first and excercising everyday. If I find the strength in me to change and do this on my own before the surgery comes, maybe I won't do it. But right now, I'm just taking the opportunity to work on myself, and am still planning on having surgery. Evilah

Just wondering who else has sleep apnea. I am pre-band, and have been trying to using a bipafor 2 years with no success. evilah

I think that the issue is SO CLEAR that illegal immigration is wrong, that people who are against it have to redirect their rebuttals towards a "singly characterized, bigoted individual" and to make broad generalizations about the opinions and assumptions and qualities of naturalized Americans. This has nothing to do with what anyone thinks that all Americans are or what all immigrants are. You can't do that, you can't just say all groups of people are the same because of their citizen status. That's called prejudice, characterizing a whole group of people based on what you think they all think or do. It's about making sure that people who come here know the law, and are equipped to abide by it, and who have genuine interest to naturalize themselves and become Americans and pledge allegience to this their new country. It's about making sure that the economic impact of those people entering this country will be beneficial TO ALL AMERICANS.

Anyone else have any opinions about immigrants learning the law before living and working here? Evilah
-
Actually, yes I do. I've lived in several foreign countries, and took pains to be sure that I did not offend anyone or violate their laws So let me say it -- there's no excuse for violating the law in a foreign country. If you're going to be there, live there, work there, you should learn the law. We make people who immigrate here legally learn it for a reason.... I didn't say I though that his native country encouraged urinating in public;. I'm making a comment about it being illegal to expose yourself in public in THIS country. And that this particular man would likely not have done it had he known there were consequences and that he could be arrested and have his citizenship questioned. Where in my post did I speak of a country that encouraged public urination? How absurd to make such an inquiry, asking me what country I think encourages urination.... I'd rather believe he's not a sociopath and just a misinformed immigrant who didn't make the effort to learn the laws here, who was accustomed to a different set of laws and normalities in his native country. Evilah PS. Please don't put words in mouth. I never said a foreign country encourages urination in public. I think it's one of the forum rules here not to post that someone said something they did not. "Which foreign country, exactly, are you speaking of that encourages public urination?" - Lucy
