  1. UPDATE: So I had a scope and everything looked good. My stomach size was still fairly small which surprised me. Insurance was approved and I got a surgery date. I moved the surgery 2xs due to personal conflicts and giving myself a bit more time to get mentally prepared. I confided in a friend who urged me to try the GLP medications. I dismissed it. Then I saw an online friend who also had the sleeve and I knew had regained a ton and didn't get to her goal weight in the first place. In all her recent pics she looked AMAZING. I reached out to her convinced she must have gotten the revision. Nope. She's on the GLPs. And she has surpassed her lowest weight on the sleeve and said it's like the sleeve was reset. Needless to say, I'm putting the surgery on indefinite hole and trying the injections. Thanks to all of you for your support. Thank you for this. I will update my progress and decision. I have an appointment tomorrow to discuss my options. At a minimum, I am going to get an EGD to see what's going on. I've also been trying to go back to the rules. Not drinking during meals, protein first, etc. It does help. I just need to get my focus back to thinking that way.
  2. Hi, I don't even know where to start. I'm short (5'1") and my highest weight was around 210. I was 180 at the time of my surgery back in January 2013. I did great with my sleeve and my lowest weight was 117 -- too thin honestly. I stayed between 135-150 for many years. In early 2020 (Covid), 7 years after surgery my weight started creeping up. I'm embarrassed to say that I'm 200 lbs now. I've had clothes sized 2 to 18, in the last 11 years which is crazy. I am in my early 50s. I'm pretty sure I've started menopause. I get very hungry and graze way too much. I still don't eat a ton at one sitting, but nothing like the small amounts I used to eat either. The idea of trying to lose all this extra weight is overwhelming to me. Plus my knees and feet kill me now. I can walk for exercise and plan to do that. My insurance does cover WLS revisions now and I'm seriously considering it. I am at a place in my life where I want to be comfortable in my skin and just generally comfortable. I have chub rub again, travelling sucks at thIs size, and I'm generally uncomfortable. I would give anything to be 150 again. I would love feedback from others that have been where I am. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

    Keto

I am an old timer. I was sleeved January of 2013. I am short at 5’2” and my sw was 205. My lowest weight was February 2014 at 112. I have been up and down since with my highest weight post surgery at 161. I’ve been doing Keto since 1/7/2019 and am back down to 142. I’d like to get down to 125-130. Keto has really helped with the cravings and I don’t worry about calories. I eat lots of eggs, meats, taco salad with lettuce, ground beef, sour cream, salsa, avocado, etc. I always feel full after eating. I also try to skip breakfast and not eat after dinner. Basically I try to do 18:6 fasting where I stop eating at 6:30pm and I don’t eat again until 12:30 the next day. This seems to be helping. I do drink coffee with heavy whipping cream.

    Straws

It is totally about what you can tolerate. There is nothing inherently wrong with the use of straws that will mess you up or anything. If you love straws and are at the beginning of your journey -- use the coffee stirrer straws. The narrower the opening the better so less air gets in your stomach.

Bored With Weight Loss. Recipe for regain?

I totally get where you are coming from. It is hard to not get bored with this! I've been there, done that. I have to say, I am SO impressed with the amount of weight you have lost and how far you have come. I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but this is one reason why I am so glad I had my sleeve surgery when I was at a lower bmi. You can absolutely lose the rest of the weight AND you should keep up the fight to do so!! But realistically, it will be much harder for you to get to a normal bmi than it is for me to maintain a normal bmi, even if you are working much harder at it and I am lazy about it. It's not fair, but it seems to be true more often than not. This is one reason why I think people should be intervening and having this surgery much sooner than they are. Again, I still say keep doing what you are doing, you got this!
  8. Here's one more good story for you. I was such a mess before surgery. Very nervous and so, so scared. Four years and 4 months later, I am so happy that I had the nerve to go through with it! I can't imagine how much different my life would be today if I had chickened out that day. I live a VERY active life now and am very healthy and happy. Absolutely no regrets here! Good luck to you in June! You'll do great!

    Too much weight loss

Same thing happened to me. I am short at 5'2", but I dropped down to 112 lbs at about a year. Too thin for me. I added carbs and I thought I didn't need to worry about what I ate. Huge mistake. It was a slippery slope and I put the 8-10 lbs I wanted to back on over the next 6 months, but I kept going. I am over 4 years out, and since that point, I regained all the way back up to 150!! I have recently gotten back under control and weighed in this morning at 122.6. I'm not saying don't add in some carbs, just be very careful! And I can relate to looking old after losing so much weight. I actually got some botox and fillers and that helped a ton! Not cheap, though and I won't be keeping that up.

    Who was your Mexico Surgeon?

Dr. Alvarez for me. I think he's the most expensive option for the Mexican surgeons, but he knows his stuff. He only does the VSG and I think he's done over 10,500 now.

    Heartburn/GERD

I guess I'm lucky. No problems for me before or after surgery. I'm 4+ years out.

Calling all vets. Need help 4 years post op

I am 4 years 3 months out. I had some regain and got it way under control starting in January. I am super happy to report I am back down to my goal weight (124 lbs this morning)! Anyway, I had started drinking soda again. For me, that led me to crave so many carbs. Once I eliminated that from my diet it was much easier. By the way, I had gotten up to 150 lbs, and once I applied myself and went back to high protein low carb, the weight came off way easier than it ever did pre-surgery! Good luck to you!

    Hungry 3 Months Post Op

It may not actually be hunger. Try taking an PPI and see if that helps. I am 4+ years out and I remember a similar thing happened to me shortly after surgery. This helped me a ton. Good luck.

    Dr Matthew Weiner Excellent information

One more thing regarding iron. I normally take the Nature's Plus chewable iron plus vitamin C. https://www.amazon.com/Natures-Plus-Chewable-chewable-tablets/dp/B00014DAFM/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1489801568&sr=8-1&keywords=nature+plus+chewable+iron Do you know if these are comparable to the celebrate or do you think I need to switch?

    Dr Matthew Weiner Excellent information

Thanks for the info! I will order these. My weight loss really came easily the first 18 months-- I even got a bit too low and needed to put some weight on. I made the mistake of using that as an excuse to make poor choices in my diet and it was then hard to stop once I got back to my goal weight. I continued to gain slowly over the next couple of years, but I finally got things back under control. I went from a high of 150 in January to 126 now. I am only 5'2". Feeling great to be back in control!

    Dr Matthew Weiner Excellent information

Can you tell me which kind of iron you now take and what is the "wrong" kind? I have just started watching his videos and have already learned a lot. I am 4+ years out and everything he says really makes sense.
  18. I'm not sure if you are asking me or not, but I'm doing great! I'd like to get down to 125 lbs and currently I'm at 130.6. Once I cut the soda and got rid of the carbs, it's amazing how well my stomach works!
  19. I am over 4 years out and as most new sleevers are, I was a strict rule follower in the beginning. No diet soda for me. Pre-sleeve I was addicted to Diet Dr. Pepper. I stayed away from all of soda for a year to 18 months. I got super skinny and a little too comfortable and a bit cocky. I could afford to gain some weight. I NEEDED to gain some weight. Well, I gained weight! At my lowest I was 112 and just a couple a months ago I was back up to 150. I am happy to say I am back down to a normal weight of 134 right now. The first thing I did to get things back under control was to cut out the diet soda. It is so much easier to stay away from the carbs without that stuff. I came to a realization that I went through a lot--physically, emotionally, and financially to get my sleeve. I was not going to just let it slip away. I still have about 10 lbs to lose, but I vow to keep soda out of my life forever from now on.

    Low BMIers

Good luck to you. I was about a 32 bmi when I was sleeved 4+ years ago. I was at goal at 7 months, I think. I was below goal and not that healthy looking at about a year. Be careful at about 2 1/2 years out. It's very easy to start gaining again. I got 25 lbs over my goal weight (almost 40 over my lowest) but I'm now back on track and losing again. Only 11 more to get back to goal. I hope this helps! No regrets for me at all!
  21. Hi, I'm a little over 4 years out from VSG. So, I reached my goal and beyond within a year of surgery. About 2 1/2 years out I started regaining and finally put the breaks on that in January. It has actually been easier than I thought to lose the weight. I need to lose 25 lbs to get back to goal and I have already lost 14. All I have done is cut out the carbs. I had let a lot of bad habits sneak back into my life -- iike diet soda, sweets, and carbs. I have cut all of that! I'm drinking more Water and trying to stick to Protein. I think this far out going to Clear liquids and all of that would be too difficult. I had hoped when I got the sleeve that I would never have to diet again. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Still, now I feel like I have a fighting chance. Also, even if I'm battling 25 lbs, I'm going from "overweight" to "normal" on the bmi chart and not "severely obese" to "obese". Even though the weight loss battle is still a definite fight, I feel like I have so much more control. Still feel like it's the best thing I could have ever done for my health!
  22. Hi all, I have had my eyes opened this week to how important it is to follow the rules and how VSG can is still effective IF you use it properly. I had my surgery in January of 2013, so I'm just over 3 years out. I am 5'2 and my highest weight was around 210. I got down ton180 on the day of surgery. I lost the weight very easily and reached my goal of 125 in 7-9 months. My lowest weight was 112. I was very thin and with my frame looked emaciated and unhealthy. I wanted to gain and stay at about 120. Before I knew it, 120 came and went and about a week ago I found myself at 145. That's over 30 lbs from my lowest and well into the "overweight" category. My habits were awful. I was drinking Diet Coke again. And a lot of it! Grazing a lot. Ritz crackers, snack cakes, chips, lots of carby foods. The amount of food I ate was a lot less than before, but I was eating often and a lot of the wrong things! This is crazy, but I weighed 3 days ago and I was 144.6. That day I followed the rules- lots of protein-- eggs, chicken breasts, etc. I drank LOTS of water. I still had my morning sugary latte, though. I exercised a lot! Yesterday I weighed in at 140.6. I was so encouraged and hadn't seen that kind of weight loss in so long. Yesterday I stuck with the plan and with eating right and exercise today I am 138.6. That's 6 lbs in 2 days! I know it's primarily water weight, but I feel so much better now that the scale is going down and not up. It is crazy that after all I have been through and how hard I worked to lose the weight, that I have let it creep back up. At this point, I would love to be able to get back in the 120s and stay there! I am glad I stopped the gaining before it got even more out of hand, but I wish I had stopped it sooner! I hope my story helps others to recognize this and get back on track!
  23. I am 5'2" and currently weigh 140. I was sleeved January of 2013, so almost 3 years ago. I got too skinny at about a year it and was only 114. I really liked being in the 120-125 range. I really need to get back on track too! Oh, I started at 205, but was 180 on the day of surgery.

    January 2013 sleevers

I am a January 2013 sleever! I had great weight loss!! I went from a presurgery high of around 210 to a too low low of 112. I lost some weight prior to surgery and my dos weight was 180. 112 was way too thin for me. 120-125 is perfect for me. Today I'm at 129, but have gotten as high as 136 in recent months. Seems like my body likes the 130-135. I really want to get back in the low 120s. Still hate that my weight fluctuates so much, but loving being normal for well over a year now. I generally wear a size 4 or 6 and small in most if my clothes. No regrets here! By the way, I am only 5'2".
