    January Newbies ! Progress ?

Surgery was 10/18. My day of surgery weight was 179. Today I'm 173.2! Almost 6 pounds and not even a full week yet! I am only 5'2". I am so excited to see the scale move down and not be hungry!
  2. I don't want to upset you, but after your initial loss and now that your bmi is only 31.1, I think 10 lbs a month is pretty normal. The weight loss is going to slow down the closer you get to goal. Plus, 10 lbs a month gives your skin some time to catch up. Hang in there. You are doing great!
  3. I had surgery on 1/18/13, and am doing very well. I seem to be tolerating liquids really well. I was reading in my post op manual that I am not supposed to be drinking more than 6 oz. in a 15 minute period. I have definitely been drinking 6 oz. faster than that without any ill effects. I will absolutely slow things down, but what is the harm if it isn't hurting me? Anyone else have this problem? It seems most people have the opposite problem.

I am looking forward to that day myself! Congrats!

4 days post op, drinking too fast?

I hope so, but it worries me a little. I certainly am not gulping, but I'm taking sips and not having to wait much time at all for the next sip. I just don't want to damage anything. I had around 8 oz. of chicken broth tonight at dinner and felt like I ate at a normal pace. It took me about 10 minutes to finish it.
  6. I am typing this from my hotel room in Eagle Pass, TX. The driver will pick us up at 7:15 tomorrow morning. I feel like I have a split personality disorder. I have been on the verge of tears one minute and really excited the next. I will try to update as soon as I can.
  7. I just had surgery on 1/18. I will say, day 2 & 3, I regretted, now that I am a veteran at 4 days post op (lol), and feeling better, the jury is still out for me. I had surgery at 5'2" and 179. I had gotten up to 205 just a few months ago when I decided to have surgery. I have struggled with my weight for 20 years. My recovery is going relatively well. I have gotten about 30 oz. of fluid in so far today. Things are looking up and I doubt I regret this even a week or so from now if things continue to progress. Fingers and toes crossed.

    Surgery tomorrow with Dr. Alvarez

Yes, we made it home and I slept great last night. Thanks for the Jello. I think it really helped. I am feeling so much better today. How are you doing? Are the pain meds making you tired at all? I feel like they knock me out.

    Surgery tomorrow with Dr. Alvarez

Surgery went well yesterday. I was in and out of sleep most of the afternoon, but i did get up and do some walking in the evening. I felt a pressure in the center of my upper stomach, i would describe it as discomfort more than pain. I haven't gotten sick, but i have waves of naseau that generally last from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. That has happened 5-6 times now. Today the gas pain seems worse. I have been trying to walk as much as I can. I also have to have 1 ice chip every 3 minutes. I also took a nice long nap this afternoon. Overall the recovery so far has gone better than I expected it to, but stillno walk in the park.

I just had surgery this morning with dr. A. He is wonderful! If you want, you can send me a pm with your phone number and I can call you and give you a play by play of the process. I will say, I am doing better than I expected to be. I have started to get up and do some walking. Tomorrow I will be walking a lot and they will take the iv out.

    January 2013 Sleevers?

Quick update. I went into surgery around 11:00. I have been continuously in and out of sleep. I feel much. Better than I thought I would. No throwing up or anything. No pain really, but I feel lots of pressure in my upper stomach area. Mouth and throat are very dry. Just got a wave of nausea. I'll write more later.

    January 2013 Sleevers?

Surgery is TODAY! Surprisingly I got a good night's sleep last night, but I woke up early. I will be leaving for the hospital in less than 2 hours now. I will try to update when I'm able. Thanks everyone for the support on here.

    BMI question

For insurance purposes I'd be 5'5" if possible. I am self pay, but from what I hear, it matters.
  14. I am so glad you are feeling better!! That's awesome.

    January Newbies ! Progress ?

I can't wait to post on this thread with real results. Hopefully I will have an update by the end of the month. Surgery is Friday. Eek.
  17. Fonally, I am sorry you are dealing with this, but so glad you talked to your Dr. And that everything you are going through is normal.

    Freaking myself out

I am not second guessing my decision, but I am dreaming out and very worried about complications-- like internal bleeding. Surgery is Friday.

I've Got A Peaceful, Easy Feeling...

I have total faith in Dr. A. Still, I know that complications can happen and I am just worried. I know it is the right thing to do for my health long term. I wish I could find that peaceful easy feeling right now. Amanda Rae, how are you holding up?

I've Got A Peaceful, Easy Feeling...

My surgery is the Friday with dr. Alvarez and suddenly I am getting so nervous. I am worried about complications mainly. I am not as worried about the lifestyle change, I am ready for that part. Starting to freak out.
  21. You can also go to dr. Alvarez's endobariatric channel on YouTube. Check out the video called "Sleeve gastrectomy magic". Or do a google search with the same name and it should come up. Sorry, I don't know how to add a link to it. The lady on the video is almost 5 years out. She brought her daughter to have the surgery, so I'd say that's a good endorsement.

    January 2013 Sleevers?

I am trying to decide between "tiny" and "slim".
  23. Are you counting your protein shake as part of our liquids? I heard it counts.

    1st week

Follow your doctor's guidelines. My doc requires clear liquids only the first week. I will be having chicken broth, jello, Popsicles, lots of water, isopure, etc. Again, your doc should have given you a post op nutritional guide to follow.
