M SON HAD a vertical sleeve gastrectomy 4 yrs and 4 months ago...he has been extremely sick since the day after the operation...with peripheral neuropathy,POTS,autonomic and central nervous system issues;infection in the intestinal tract;unable to work;severe and intractable and miserable pain in his legs,hands,feet....please do your due diligence ...this operation has caused terrible suffering........anyone else use this 'surgeon'? when my son went to see him after the operation....he was dismissive and unprofessional............

I do not know of anyone in California......however, it might be a good thing for you to do research.....Mayo Clinic and NIH National Institutes of Health I am going to see someone at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore,Md ... perhaps,you could call and get a name in California......with all of the fine medical centers......ie...Skripps,Cedar-Sinai,Rush ? You could write to NIH at the Rare and Undiagnosed Disease Program and see if they could help?

If possilbe...gather and request ALL of your medical records and consult with a specialist in neurology who is familiar with these issues.........perhaps, the Dr at Johns Hopkins......? I have been in touch with NIH National Institutes of HEalth...try and read their research on these issues..........

Have you been tested for the vitamin deficiency to see if infact,that is the case ?Could it be something else? I have consulted with many physicians and now, they suggest that I take a glucose tolerance test.....as wel as an antibody test that tests for Fabry Disease as well as an antibody test for something called: Anti -Hu ?They also suggested having a surgeon do a deep tissue biopsy of the fat,muscle,nerve in my leg/thigh ......?there is a neurologist that I will try and see at: Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore,Md. who specializes in problems post operation of the vertical sleeve bariatric surgery..his name is: Dr. Michael Polydefkis You are right......after the operation....the surgeon does not want to deal with the issues he/she never told you about........

ASK ALOT OF QUESTIONS....DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH....MAYO CLINIC HAS A GOOD RESEARCH SERIES OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE OPERATION AND THE POTENTIAL PROBLEMS......THE SURGEON THAT DID MY OPERATION NEVER TOLD ME ANYTHING ABOUT THE POTENTIAL OF HAVING NEUROPATHY AND NUMBNESS IN MY FEET,LETS,HANDS.....SEVERE PAIN IN MY FEET........DO ALOT OF RESEARCH BEFORE......ALL THE BEST......

I agree......and I am still very sick 2 yrs after the VSG....wehn I went to see the surgeon ,,he was cold,walked away and was not interested in helping me...NEVER did he say this could happen to me......NEVER....I cannot work,sleep,walk,,,,have to go to a pain management doctor..before the sleeve surgery,I never even took a tylenol.....I was healthy except for the weight.....anyone ever had these severe ,miserable pain issues and numbness???????????

You need to obtain ALL of your medical records......I hope that you get better.....do you have terrible pain in your feet and hands ? Are you taking medication ? Who operated on you ? What hospital ?

Yes: I have been ill for the last 2 yrs.....with the same terrible symptoms..been in and out of the ER and several hospitals....the surgeon turned me away and ssaid to see a gastroenterologist... there is a fine neurologist that I will consult with at JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY in Baltimore,Maryland......his name is: Dr. Michael Polydefkis ..try and see if you could go and see him......you couls find him on Healthgrades

I heard that the surgeons at NYU were very good.....I had mine done at Mt. Sinai and I have been very sick....I should have consulted with others......I have read that the program at the Mayo Clinic is excellent since they have a comprehensive pre and post surgery program.......it is good to read and ask questions...lots of reading and asking lots of questions....with good wishes for every success for good health......

So glad that you are reading and finding your way.....the journey for me has been rather difficult...and unexpected....if you could read the studies done at major medical centers....that might help....I did not...II know people who have done so well....and so happy for them.....get as much information and discuss with a trusted medical professional..... I was so desperate to take the weight off and I did not prepare.....all the best for good health for the New Year.......

Yes: I have been very sick since the operation...I did not know who to go to and I have had a terrible time. Everyone is different....make sure that you ask a lot of questions,,,,if I had it to do again...I would go to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester,Minn. They have a comprehensive program and are rated well. Do research..and read a lot.......wishing you all the best for good health.......

So Sorry to hear of your situation.....I had the VSG 15 months ago in NYC with a good surgeon ?Immediately, after the surgery I started to feel numbness in my stomach and severe pain in the feet and legs and thighs and hands...I also have enlarged veins on my hands and legs....the pain is intractable..I have visited many doctors and ER's and most do not know what to do...they do however, attribute all of this post op stuff directly from the surgery.....I have lost 155 pounds and have a hard time eating and getting the food down ? In retrospect, I wish that I DID NOT go through with the surgery...../clearly, something happened and my total life has been changed..... I am unable to function or to work or to go back to school......thoughts anybody ?
