Surgeons In The Nyc Area

Truth be told......this particular 'surgeon' clearly, has had serious and terrible outcomes....where families are left to grieve......and what an insincere way to run a 'practice' when a potential patient is told by her american doctors that it would be anethema to have the surgical procedure due to a bleeding disorder.......if, the surgery would have proceded....it might have been disasterous and litigious.....and, in Mexico a rather difficult undertaking....since, they do not have the protections for patients as in the USA..... Before, youspout inaccuracies......do your homework and check with the Mexican consulate....they know....! -

IF these individuals as you say....'really knew him', & would bother to truly investigate this 'surgeon's credentials....they would come to understand that what he posts on his website as his post graduate training....is clearly NOT VALID.! Going to a variety of meetings sponsored by medical organizations for a weekend course is NOT post graduate training...a fee for the weekend course if paid for the CME's and a certificate is issued.....many of these 'courses ' are held at lovely resorts(nice to get a mini vacation at the same time and attend afew hours of the meetings)....a post graduate training for surgeons are atleast 2 to 3 years for Fellowships in a particular field of surgery...and NOT, afew days at hotels to obtain CME's..... it is also a known fact, there there have been terrible outcomes with some of his patients......there is no recourse in Mexico if such a tragedy occurs.....and how terribly sad it is for the families.....and ofcourse, the patient....in the case of my relative--she did not do enough research prior to sending her $1,000 to the coordinator....she was also snowed by the glitzy website.....she did not look into his training fully....and his resume.....she had a serious issue with bleeding approx. 2 weeks prior to going to Mexico ...and was advised by her doctors in the USA....not to have the surgery..... It was only the right and decent thing for the money to be returned to someone with this medical issue.....it would have been disastrous if the surgery were to have gone forward.....people who already struggle with serious weight problems must contend with so many things.....this is not a way to run a practice....I am glad that my relative told the family what transpired....we are now trying to assist her....and hope to get the funds returned to her..... -
Thanks,,when is your surgery ??????

GREAT I will be using a Dr. Daniel Herron at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhatten.....II once thought of going to Mexico however, after doing alot of Research......that is completely out of the question....for many, many reasons....I have a relative who was going to go to Piedras Negras,Mexico to a dr. guillermo alvarez(he advertised with fancy advertisements) however, my cousin could not go through with the operation since he has a blood issue...he ased for the $1,000 back that the coordinator took on behalf of the doctor.....apparently, this is her finders fee and she will not part with it....what a shame that a medical practice has to be so awful.....people have to be rather diligent in the choice of their surgeon and support staff....it truly means alot...... I hope that all goes well for you...Englewood Hospital has great care....

did you have to prepare fir the procedure.....?How did you find this surgeon? Id he at Englewood Hospital ? Best to Luck....

Learn From My Mistake! Lost Money (Mexico Surgery--Quinones)
phantompouch replied to gettingback2me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My relative had the same issue with the 'coordinator' of Guillermo Alvarez who is a 'surgeon' in piedras negras,MX...my relative sent the coordinator $1,000[this is the fee that she kept]and refused to return the money to my cousin since the doctor in the USA said that my cousin had a bleeding issue and could not have the operation] the coordinator stated that Dr. Alvarez refused to return the money.....[the truth is: the coordinator kept this fee]there is no recourse, is something goes wrong in Mexico....who do you complain to ? Apparently, this 'surgeon' has had terrible issues on post op procedures......so happy that my cousin never went to Mexico to have the operation.....he is a student and needs the money returned...but how ? Not even sure who this coordinator is ? No LLC? No BBB?They probably set up a nontraceable 800 phone number and P.O. Box drop and make sure that there is no record of using a credit card....no personal checks....just a bank check or transfer.....what a Racket!!!!!Buyer Beware!!! -
I went to Dr. Bessler's informational meeting...he seemed to be completent ..I have chosen to go with the team at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhatten--Dr. Daniel Herron has a team to assist in preparation for the procedure.......it takes time and then gets submitted to the insurance company...... whyd did you choose Dr. Bessler at Columbia Presbytarian ?

Hi..so sorry to hear of this medical issue....I had the same thing many years ago and after having an MRI -it was discovered that I had a Herniated Disc in my lumbar area.....( I had to have surgery)..perhaps, you should see a neurologist to explore this situation......?) I wish you well...all the best.... -
Need updated Mexican surgeon 2013 prices.

My relative was to have the surgery with a guillermo Alvarez in Piedras Negras,Mx and sent the coordinator a $1,000 deposit...he went to see his own doctor in Manhatten and was told that he had a bleeding issue and NOT to have the procedure..he emailed the coordinator who told him that guillermo Alvarez REFUSED to return the $1,000 deposit( even tho there was a potentially serious medical issue at the time)clearly, the coordinator DID NOT want to lost her FEE and REFUSED to return the $1,000 to my relative( who is a struggling student )There is something called: ETHICS?It seems that it does not exist in this doctor's practice.?the coordinator should have RETURNED the $1,000 to my relative....keeping blood money is NOT right or ethical......I would NEVER go there or suggest anyone else to....even though....there is such desperation to have the surgical procedure......I am sure there are other better and more ethical programs, doctors and coordinators out there.....that behave in a humane manner.....don;t buy into the hype and glitzy self promoting websites.....because, all they are.... are self promoting....and they prey on the most Vulnerable......... -
Dont know anything about this surgeon,...however, a relative of mine was going to go to guillermo Alvarez in another part of Mexico for the surgery...he sent in a deposit of $1,000 to the coordinator and he had gone to see his own physician in NYC....who told him....that he was NOT able to have the surgery due to a bleeding issue...( that could have been serious) he emailed Alvarez's coordinator and was told that Alvarea REFUSED to return the $1,000 deposit....that is HORRIBLE ! and it could have been rather a serious Letigious issue....one would think that the funds would be returned and good faith should have been present( since my relative could not have gone forward with the surgery at that time due to a bleeding issue) the coordinator must have pocketed the money as a referral....SHAME!SHAME!SHAME! how does she sleep at night....knowing that this $1,000 was alot of money to someone who was desperate......what a Racket!!!! Have any of you had the same experience.....and not had funds returned due to a potentially serious medical problem ????

Surgeons In The Nyc Area

btw: I had spoken to several people who were considering Mexico as an alternnative to surgeons in the USA,Canada,etc....what also changed my mind was..... a lady who was not able to get to Mexico( as a self pay patient0 due to the fact that she ended up in her local hospital because of a medical condition that neeed immediate treatment) she had already sent in her deposit to the coordinator and asked for the money back....the coordinator said that the money would not be returned to her( even though, she could not get to Mexico for the gastric sleeve operation at this time) One wonders how cruel a coordinator could be?Not to return the $1,000 deposit to this poor lady who was already struggling with a medical condition and would be self pay......therefore, Alvarez and his coordinator would NOT be someone to have the surgery with.....is money what drives them?Where is the humanity?? People are already struggling on every level...... -

thanks....I understand that this group is wonderful.....my brother had robotic surgery there on his kidney.. Dr. Daniel Herron at Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC has a comprehensive program and seems to have a fine bio with post graduate training.....the journey is long...... I also explored going to Mexico and looked at two surgeons there..... one of them was Alvarez hoowever, after researching well....I discovered that he has an upscale website without any post grad training or fellowship......only taken weekend seminars for CME credits in nice vacation spots around the USA and other countries...... -

Dr. Schrope Nyc Anyone?
phantompouch replied to Luckystar12's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I interviewed Dr. Daniel Herron at Mt sinai hospital in Manhatten today......has anyone ever used him for the gastric sleeve surgery . I liked him and his team approach..... -
I have researched so many surgeons in Mexico...have spoken to former patients,,,spoken to journalists who have written about poor outcomes from bariatric surgeries done in Mexico, and decided that I would not go to Mexico for the gastric sleeve procedure due to my due diligence....I do understand that there are people on this website that have had good experiences and I wish them well with good health....those others who tragically did not have a good experience....either by infections, leaks and even death...will not discuss or unable to voice their opinion...what about those former patients who now have no recourse with a surgeon from Mexico( if something went terribly wrong?) The medical mal practice claims go no where....since it is a foreign country...? It is tragic ...there are surgeons in Mexico who make sure to cover their mistakes and their medical training clearly is not the same as in the USA. One of the surgeons that I have looked at states in his resume that he has had post graduate training and a fellowship....NOT True.....all he has are CME(continuing medical education) seminars taken at lovely vacation spots around the world for several days...and then after paying the fee for the meeting....receives a certificate of completion....and posts it on his resume and website....those prospective patients reading his resume would believe that he had years of postgraduate training.....not so....only weekend seminars..... in the USA...a surgeon who does has postgrad work....is in a certified 2 to 3 year Fellowship program at a hospital and then receives the proper training and becomes credentialed... ..clearly, different then several weekend seminars.....after all....there is Truth in advertising....don't ya think ?
