I just had mine at Balboa Naval Hospital and it took almost a year. This is straight from my list: 2 educational classes, pass test, support group meeting, nutrition consult, healthy weight class, 6 month weight management (unless you have already exhausted different diets), blood&urine tests, nicotine panel (only if you smoke), psychology consult, PAP (within a year), mammogram (40 years and up only), lose 10% excess body weight (they may use your doctors number if you have already been losing), upper GI, chest x-ray, & sleep study (you already have so just need paperwork), these are possible extras gallbladder ultrasound, EGD, Colonoscopy (50 years and up), echocardiogram, internal medicine, cardiology consult and quit smoking for 3 months. Good Luck and hopefully they will take care of you quick :*)

Bipass Or Sleeve - Now I’M Confused
angeliiz80 replied to shastadaisy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said the sleeve has been around for at least 5 years, but it was in "test mode/experimental" up until this year. I can definitely see them using it for stomach cancer and such previously. -
Bipass Or Sleeve - Now I’M Confused
angeliiz80 replied to shastadaisy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I decided on sleeve because I know people that have done the different procedures and their weight loss results etc. Sleeve seemed to be just as effective as bypass, but seemed safer. Since I have had it on Oct 17th I'm still on my clear liquid diet and completely content with it. I see commercials and my brain is like MMMM, but my belly is like whatever. I lost 10 lbs in the first 6 days. My friend lost 100 lbs in 4 months, another has lost and maintained 110 lb weight loss in 2 years that was her goal weight she hit it within 5 months and is maintaining problem free. My sister got bypass and lost 60 lbs in about 3 months and hasn't had any problems yet and another friend lost 150 lbs and has maintained it for 5 years and having 3 children 4, 1 1/2 and a 4 month old. Another friend had bypass and only lost 60 lbs in 7 months, but she complains about dumping all the time. So I just guess it depends on the results and side effects you are looking for. Good luck! :*) -

Do not do the lap band ask your physician about sleeve results versus bypass. Almost everyone I know that got lap banned had Fluid build up or the band slipped and they ended up with sleeve anyway :*( -
Definitely take advantage ;*) I would but my hubby works full time and just doesn't put anything where I want it to go LOL

Excited put on my pre surgery black slacks and they are falling off :*) Hope work goes well tonight 10PM-7AM then only 2 more nights like that 2 days off and some normal shifts -
I hear that all food after being sleeved is only for nourishment it's not the same as before. Of course everyone on the liquid diet can't wait for solids, it's just too bad it's a disappointment :*( I still can't wait for chicken LOL

You will do great it is better to eat a few bites of sugar free pudding then to break down and try to eat a ton of actual junk food. As time goes he surgeon said that you will be drinking more just try to pace yourself so that your stomach doesn't stretch. Knowing that you didn't finish an egg sounds like you are right where you should be. Keep up the good work and try not to 2nd guess yourself. You will do great :*) -

Take it easy, but by day 7 for me I was feeling good now on day 9 minimal pain and feeling back to normal with more energy. You know your body so you will know your own pace during recovery. What day are you at now? Good luck with the fluids sometimes it's hard to get them all in. -

It will get better. What is Unjury chicken soup and where do you buy it? A few days makes a huge difference and just try to walk as much as you can even if it's only 5 minutes at a time when you are already up to use the restroom try to walk as long as you can. It really does help with gas and healing :*) -
Worked my first "real" day of work yesterday. It only ended up being 6 hours and I was glad because I was so tired afterwards, but then when I got home of course I got my second wind and didn't get to bed til 10PM. Tonight is the true test I have 3 nights overnight training 10-7AM it won't be as busy lie the day so I can definitely get in my protein & fluids since it's more relaxed. I just hope I can stay awake. After those 3 nights so glad that I have normal shifts :*) I also got in a 30 minute walk on my break. Found a gym close by, lots of shopping and Tony Romas when I am able to eat real food ;*) My pain is very minimal now, I feel like my incisions are healing well and for the most part I have no interest in real food which is good because I am still so far away from having it. Today I FINALLY picked up the house and did dishes. Now to relax before work.

My doctor gave me a list of high protein low sugar shakes and that was on it. They also suggest Nestle Optisource with 24g of protein that's what the hospital uses. I think that since we do a clear liquid diet for 3 weeks they want us having lots of protein. I buy the already made cans so they better have 35g of protein ;*) My sister had bypass and uses the strawberry whey. I like the cans for while on the go. I'm going to get the strawberry & coffee nestle if I can find it for when I am home and mix it with almond milk.
-
I would recommend almond milk because I have heard soy isn't good for you because of GMO's and the vanilla is delicious and depending on the brand low sugar :*)
-
I just started working today so it's a little harder now, but I drink 2 of the cans of Pure Protein Frosty chocolate they have 35 grams each and then I have some chicken broth at night. I sip on protein & Water all day. I started working today and got one shake in on my drive to work almost an hour and now that I'm off will drink another one. Just enjoyed some chicken broth. My doctor makes us do 2-3 weeks clear liquid I can't wait for sugar free pudding LOL the Jello I can only eat a tablespoon of then it feels weird. Nov 6th is my first follow up. I tried banana creme muscle milk and it was disgusting and only 25g of protein.

6 days after surgery and couldn't wait any longer I am down 10 lbs :*) YAY I haven't been 232 lbs since before my 4 year old was born. Super happy. My incision also stings a bit, but I think it's just the healing. Glad to hear everyone is doing well :*)

Good to know since I am going to start working at Panera on Wed. :*) -
I know the feeling I keep wanting chicken. LOL You can do it. How long until you can have pureed chicken?
-
I am sorry about your broke toe, but glad to hear you are still walking :*)
-
Had my 1st BM this morning YAY! I was starting to worry.
-
Sorry you had a bad day. Maybe you can try a different brand or flavor of Protein Shake. In the hospital they used optisource and it was 24 grams per 8 fl oz It from Nestle the strawberry tastes like strawberry nesquick if it's cold and the coffee tastes pretty good to if you like coffee. Normally I drink the pure protein vanilla or chocolate, but I'm going to mix them up so I don't get sick of it. Great job on your walking that is most important. My incisions are also somewhat itchy guess that means they are healing. I also had acid reflux and take the 2 pills a day the Jello is the only thing that seems to bother me. Good Luck the 24th :*)

I can't wait to eat chicken my team is slow 2-3 weeks clear liquid, 3 weeks full liquid, 6 weeks puree then by 10 weeks real food. My surgeon has been very successful so I am fine with following the diet. That is awesome that you get all the protein from your food. I know a few people have had problems with fish/shrimp so they stopped eating it, but you could always try again later on. -

Try stepping on the scale first thing in the morning but weigh yourself 3 times in a row to make sure it's accurate. I know that as soon as I drink a sip of water or do anything I gain a lb. By the end of the day I am always 3-4 lbs heavier so do it at the same time everyday for accurate results. :*) -

I get my fluids by keeping a bottle of water by me all day and just taking a couple sips at a time. Hope you get enough fluid and don't have to go back in for IV. Good Luck :*)
