    completely disgusted....

I too have had a few disgusting moments. I just thought that my weight would come off easier than it is. I lost 25 pounds before I even had my surgery on November 14th, but I seem to be struggling to lose the 8 pounds that I lost last month. I've always heard that on a regular diet, for most eople, a 1-2 pound weight loss a week is perfectly normal. But with the sleeve, I feel that 1-2 pounds a week is not enough--especially when I see posts where people lose 60 pounds in 3 months. That's my rant. I just thought it would go faster.....

    Stalls

Hey all! I had my surgery on 11/14/12 and hit my first stall on 12/5/12. Very disheartening. That stall broke, but I've had another one this past week. Do any of you have any advice about stalls? Any blogs or articles that I can read? I lost 25 pounds prior to surgery and have last 21 since surgery. I'm thrilled with my weight loss, but those same old defeated thoughts that I have had with every diet that I've ever been on are never far from my consciousness. The only difference this time is that I can't give up because my stomach won't let me!! Thanks in advance for any insights or help.

    Stalls

Thanks for all of your positive thoughts. I guess for me, it's hard to read forums and blogs where people seem to be losing massive amounts of weight and here I am struggling with a couple of stalls and even a few weight gains. I had a doctor tell me a couple of years ago that she had never had a patient whose body seemed to hold on to fat like mine does. In the past, I've been totally compliant with dieting and exercise and I struggled to lose the little bit of weight that I did lose. I'm finding that true again, even with my surgery. I'm praying that exercise will get the weight loss really going. I haven't been able to do much because I got a staph infection a week after surgery and my doctor doesn't want me doing much until mid to late January. I'm going to join the gym that my husband goes to and also got some kettlebells and a DVD for strength training. Thanks again. It helps to know that there are others who totally understand what this feels like. Blessings, Julie
  4. Hey all, today marks one week out from my surgery. I had been feeling quite well, but today, I woke up with severe muscle pain on my left side where my drain is. It has been rough all day and I've had to take my pain med every 4 hours. I also have fibromyalgia, so I don't know if that is what is effecting me today. No fever or anything, but the pain is really bad. Any suggestions? I haven't called my doctor because it is Thanksgiving.

    Pain After Vsl

Thanks, Doxie!! By the way, I LOVE dachshunds too. The pain isn't right at my drain, but between the drain and main incision. It does feel like a pulled muscle, but I don't know how that would have happened. I've had an infection from a surgery in 2001, so I'm being very cautious with that. No fever, but if I get the slightest, I'm definitely calling the doctor or just going to the ER. Thanks for your response. Hopefully, I'll be better in a couple of days.

No Liquid Pre Surgery Diet? Is This Normal?

Every doctor is different and their guidelines vary greatly. My doctor bases the pre-op diet on one's BMI. Having a high BMI meant 10 days of the pre-op, which is very restrictive. 3 protein shakes a day, 2 cups of broth, 2 cups of raw leafy veggies or 1 cup of cooked greens. Of course, I can have all of the water I want as we'll as Crystal Light. That's it!! It is definitely hard, but I am 50 years old (almost 51) and I want to do all I can for my body to respond well to surgery and recovery. The pre-op diet is essential in helping shrink the liver so that the doctor can better access the stomach. That's why I'm doing my best to be compliant. But, with that said, I'm praying that the 14th comes QUICKLY!!
  7. I too am on day 2 of my pre-op diet. My surgery is on the 14th. So far, I'm following it 100%, but it is definitely hard. I haven't had any light headness, but I am having some strong hunger pains. Every doctor is different and their guidelines greatly differ as well. My doctor bases the length of the pre-op diet based on one's BMI. Being that the purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver, I see following this diet as essential. I tried the Isopure, but could not take it. The protein shakes are okay. Hopefully, these days will pass quickly!!

    Need A Houston Surgen

Hi! I've recently started my journey for the VSG. You asked about a Houston area doctor. I live in the Cypress area and the doctor I have chosen is Dr. Bradley Waggoner. He is located at 290 between Huffmeister and Telge. I went to a seminar last Thursday and had an appointment with him on Monday, the 15th. In my opinion, he is wonderful. He does have a page on this website, or go to North Cypress Medical Center's website and you can find him there. Hope this helps. Julie
