  1. I was just wondering if there are any banders or soon to be banders in their early to later 20s. Im not sure If Im the youngest bander on here ( im 22 ), but I think I may be one of the younger ones on here looking at everyones ages so far. Just wanting to meet and chat with of the younger banders if possible.
  2. I am cosigning with what everyone has said, but along with my daily workout, and 1000 calorie diet, I drink 2 cups of this infusium wu long tea my mom ordered for me off the internet. Oprah endorses it and uses it, and it really does work...I lost 3lbs in 2 days drinking it....Its like a black tea, but taste like a stronger version of green tea. It cant be bought in the stores, but any doctor will tell you drinking green tea or chinese herbal teas will increase ur metabolism. I would definitely encourage and recommend that if you need a boost in weight loss.
  3. Hello all.... My name is Jamila and I am a 22 year old college student from Connecticut, currently residing in Tallahasse, Florida for my education. I was " banded " this past May in Tallahassee. Its only been about a month a half since my procedure but definitely the best decision I could have ever made. I would love to get to know some of you all and your experiences so please feel free to send me a message or reply to my thread or whatever lol. Take care and keep losing!

Ironically, there is nothing I cant eat...I CHOOSE to stay away from foods that I know are high in caloric intake or fried. I remember pre-surgery my doctor tellin me that I prolly will barely beable to eat bread. I eat bread fine, and as often as I like for that matter. I was on liquids for a week aftermy surgery...That second week I was perfectly fine eating whatever I want.... HOWEVER.... The only thing I havent had since my surgery is alcohol. Mainly just because its alot of empty calories, but Im just curious to know has the band affected anyone from having an alcoholic beverages if they chose to have one?

    May 2007 Banders

I noticed alot of you all are having to wait like amonth after your surgery before your doctors give you your first fill....One week after my surgery for my postop appt I got my first fill...and I just had my 2nd fill last week. He only gave me a small fill, even tho I told him I thought I needed alot. But he told me Im losing at a healthy and consistent patter and he wanted me to maintain that. My 3rd fill is scheduled for July 19th....So Im averaging a fill once a month.

    Any Banders In Their 20s's????

I know my doctor has several younger patients, including myself...he has many patients who are in their 30s-50s also, but he told me he has quite a few banders who are 18 - 25. Apparently more and more adults are trying to get it done while they are still in their " youth " to say the least. I know I was...I didnt wanna have to be 35, 40 dealing with this weight issue.

Dont give up...My insurance company originally denied me, and my dad wrote the insurance company a letter saying that I qualify for the band according to all their requirements listed in the policy, so their is no reason I should have been denied according to those standards...LITERALLLY one month later BCBS sent me a letter saying that they sent all my information sent from the doctors and my appeal letter to a board of directors and they overturned the decision and would pay for EVERYTHING. Just because the insurance company says no the first time doesnt mean you cant fight them about it, and they wont overturn their decision. Oh yea...they denied me back in February, overturned it in March, I was banded in May....Thats how fast the whole thing was. But I think you should look over your insurance complany's policy regarding the band, and if you qualify according to the recommendation of your physician and psychologist, in additition to meeting the requirements of your carrier, write a letter appealing their decision. It may just make a difference.

    May 2007 Banders

    Im late...lol...but I was May 7th!!!
  12. I started working out about 2 weeks after my procedure...Basically once I stopped being sore. I go to the gym 6x a week at my apt complex for just 30 minutes a day. Although its only 30 minutes, it makes a difference and I know without my excercising I wouldnt be as successful with losing weight the way I am. I have never been so consistent with going to the gym everyday, and it makes me feel great. Working out has become so habitual to me that I wouldnt feel right if I didnt go to the gym one day...

    I'm NEW!

Im sure you will be approved cause I was approved with BCBS PPO also...I didnt have any of the health ailments of an obese person...Ironically I never had hypertension, diabetes, or high cholesterol, I just had a high BMI which qualified me enough without the health problems.

    a-MAY-zing Bandsters....

Hey Cindy...I was checking out your signature and you had your procedure done in a short amount of time....Me on the other had, I didnt go to the seminar until August 06, I had my 1st consultation Sept.06. I didnt seen the psychologist and nutritionist until Nov. 06 and lastly I didnt get banded until May 07...It seemed like I had to wait forever, but I was waiting on my insurance to approve of it for awhile so I know that was some of my hold up.

    Not losing...

Im still confused as to why so many of you on here who have been banded need protein so much. To my understanding, I knew that gastric bypass patients need to consume lots of protein...but I dont know why we need to do it with the lap band. My doctor hasnt told me once that I needed to be drink protein, but I guess every person is different.
  18. Yea I gained 4lb, months prior to my scheduled surgery date.

    Not losing...

Well its only been about 2 weeks since ur surgery so your body may be just getting adjusted to your new way of eating and excercising and sometimes it may take awhile for your body to adjust to your new lifestyle before you really start losing. Regarding you still being hungry...I know that after the first 3 weeks I could tell I could eat more than I originally could soon as I had the band done, but I still couldnt eat half as what I could eat pre-surgery...so maybe u need a good saline fill to tighten u up to get that full feeling so you dont accidentally overeat. Dont become discouraged tho. You have made it this far and just keep up the faith and dont give up on yourself. Remember its only been 2 weeks...NOT 2 months. The pounds will begin to shed soon enough!!!
  20. Lol...interesting question....I had my procedure done on May 7th, and I wanna say me and my bf started having sex like 3 weeks laterr....I knew I could have been having sex earlier but my bf was scared of hurting me, and me not being properly healed...Either way...it hasnt affected what we do in bed. We still do all the same things pre-surgery as well as post-surgery.
