    one month pics

Wow, the difference is awesome! Keep up the good work. I see you were sleeved by Dr. Rantis, I was sleeved by Dr. Guske (on 12/5) at the same office.
  3. Pretty good Sunday. Woke up to a 1.5 pound loss, the Bears won, I won 3 quarters of football squares and I dont have to work for the next 2 days.

    Full? Or keep eating?

For me, I eat 2 ounces at a time. Once I finish the 2 ounces I wait for a few minutes. If I get a tiny burp I know Im one more bite away from the hiccups and I never ever go past the hiccups. I have not thrown up once and only felt discomfort once in the beginning (Ive been sleeved for 3 weeks). I had 3 ounces of cream soup and it was uncomfortable so I decided to do 2 ounces every 2 or 3 hours.

    Really freaking out.

I was sleeved on 12/5 and was fine and dandy up until 2 days before hand. I cried, had anxiety, was just scared. But I thought I cant continue living like I was, unhappy and unhealthy. So my fear turned to being so grateful to have the opportunity to change my life and being proud that I had the courage to do it. I knew I could handle the pain, I guess it was just the unknown. Thankfully this site helped squash so many of those unknowns. Youll be great!

    Early December Sleevers Roll Call

I was also sleeved on 12/5. Starting weight 242, Surgery weight 222, Current weight 211, height 5'4. The roughest days were in the hospital just because I couldnt get liquids down but my surgeon suggested warm liquids because some cant tolerate cold as it makes the tummy spasm. Once I tried the warm, I was able to take down 3 ounces at a time. Everything since has been great. I can take pretty big drinks and I eat about 2 ounces every 2 or 3 hours to get my Protein in. With only taking 2 ounces at a time, Ive not gotten sick once. No nausea either. I get in all my fluids by drinking warm decaf tea all day. It works for me.

    Newbie 2012

It all depends on the individual. Im 3 weeks out and can take pretty big gulps of liquid. Although in the first week, I took very small sips and could feel them just struggling to go down because of the swelling. Once your swelling goes down, you should be able to take bigger sips. Good luck to you and congrats!
  8. You didnt screw up lol. Full liquids for me included strained cream soups. Dont worry. As long as it didnt cause you any discomfort and you strained it, Im sure you are fine.
  9. I was on clears for the 2 days in the hospital and told I could go on full liquids when I got home. Then 2 weeks later I had my first check up and was cleared for purees. Im 3 weeks out now and on soft foods. I have no problems or pain.

    Constipated What Do You Take

They make me nauseous too. Im 3 weeks out and had to take them a few days ago and thought I might have the flu because I havent been nauseous at all except the day of surgery. But then all of a sudden I had to 'go'! And go I went. Unfortunately Im going to have to try it again.
  11. First day back to work. It wasnt that bad but I loved being home. It was nice to hear everyone say I looked great and that I lost weight in my face. Ill take it.

    Strong meds vs. small stomach

I agree about the lortab. It made me so sick so they finally had to give me Norco crushed up. But this weekend I was a bit stopped up so I took 2 colace tablets and whoa!! Then they kicked in, I felt so nauseous, I thought I had the flu. Then all of a sudden I had to go to the bathroom and needless to say, Im not stopped up any longer (sorry for the TMI). I dont know if taking the normal recommended amount was a good idea. Did the trick but it felt like crap (excuse the pun).

What was your Christmas meal like?

Im only 3 weeks out but for an appetizer I had 3 shrimp and a deviled egg and I was full. Then 2 hours later for dinner I had 2 small bites of chicken breat, about a one inch piece of ham with a tiny dollap of cranberry sauce, a deviled egg, one little broccoli floret and I was stuffed. I couldnt even eat my little thumb size piece of sweet potato so I actually licked it lol. I just wanted to taste it but not consume it. For dessert I had 3 M&M's and I actually ate each one in 3 bites. I could not believe the amount of food on everyone elses plate. It felt so good to be full with what I had and to not even be able to finish it.
  14. I had surgery 12/5 and found this thread to be so helpful. For me personally, I found the most valuable thing to bring was the 6 foot extension cord. My hospital provided a hard pillow for your tummy so I didnt need to bring one but I sure used it a lot. I didnt need the heating pad but couldve gotten one from the hospital if I needed it. I did bring my own firm pillow from home with a dark brown pillow case so it wasnt mistaken for a hospital one. I didnt read any of the magazines or books I brought, I was either sleeping, watching tv, visiting or taking walks.

    A Piece of Cake

Im 3 weeks out and just had a piece of chocolate covered candied bacon. So far so good. I havent had any problems eating or drinking except for the first 2 days. This is the first sweet thing Ive eaten if you dont count sweet protein shakes, sweet sugar free pudding, sweet decaf tea (artifical sweetener).

    FMLA/time off question

I took 3 weeks. I have an office job but it can be physical at times so just to be safe I took 3. I just told my surgeon that Id like 3 weeks off and he said 'ok, no problem'. It was fine with my HR dept and when I filed for FMLA, they actually approved me for 6 weeks but Im going back after 3 weeks. Even though Ive had no complications, Im glad I took 3 because Im at 2 weeks now and am just now starting to not need naps.
  17. 2 wk post op today and no problems. On purees but could easily do soft foods. Lovin' my sleeve.

    Pre-op weight 220lbs or under

At my first consult, I had a BMI of 40.5 weighing 242, just qualified but then I had severe sleep apnea and other issues so I probably couldve gotten approved with a 35+.

    Able to eat an egg?

The first few days with water was a real struggle. It was a little painful and lots of pressure. Then my surgeon told me to try WARM liquids for a while. I was able to get 3 ounces down at a time and I was 3 days out then. Im convinced that by drinking warm liquids for a few days really made the swelling go down better. My surgeon said that some people have issues with cold or even room temperature liquids, it gives the tummy spasms. Warm liquids were nice and gentle for my sleeve and now I can drink like I did before as far as how big my swallows are. No pressure, no pain. Maybe try babying your sleeve with some warm liquids, maybe youll be able to get more down. I had warm decaf tea and warm milk with some chocolate Protein powder in it just for a slight taste. Hope that helps.

    Able to eat an egg?

I think you are fine. I had a protein shake (25 protein) for breakfast, one for lunch, 2 oz of buffalo chicken puree and an egg about an hour later for dinner. Plus all my water throughout the day.

    Able to eat an egg?

My surgeon said he only does 32 French size bougies. Whatever that means.
  23. Im 6 days and have been cleared for puree. Had egg salad and buffalo chicken puree today. Have also eaten a piece of thinly sliced turkey but really liquified it in my mouth. I seem to have no problems at all.

    Able to eat an egg?

Im 6 days post op and got cleared for puree today and made egg salad with one egg and ate the whole thing. No discomfort, no sliminig, just yummy. It took me 15 to 20 minutes taking very small bites. I use a baby spoon the help me make sure Im taking small bites. I usually take about a 1/2 a baby spoon at a time. Seems to do the job!
  25. 1 week post op checkup, cleared for puree, down 6 pounds! Boo-yah!
