2 days post op - feeling fine
notmeanymore replied to lmedalsy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! Welcome to the losers bench. I too had a fairly incident free recovery. I was only nauseous in the hospital but never threw up. Im 6 weeks out and havent thrown up once (knock on wood). The only time I needed my pain meds was in the morning and only for a couple of days. I eat about 2 ounces of food every couple of hours or so. I never eat to the point of being uncomfortable. I drink decaf tea pretty much all day long and can drink just like I did pre-surgery. I dont have to watch my sips any more which is good. I do take little bits though and ate with a baby spoon until I trained myself how big of bites to take. Good luck on your journey! -
Anyone Getting Cold since surgery?
notmeanymore replied to crdevans's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have always run hot, night sweats and all but now I get chilled easily. Have to wear socks at home and am all bundled up. I havent lost a huge amount of weight (38 down from my highest of 242) but apparently its enough to make me stop sweating all the time. Now that I think about it, I havent even been sweating when getting ready in the morning. Yay! -
Anyone a slow loser at first then things improved?
notmeanymore replied to KK66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Id say Im on the slower end of losing but Im not complaining. Im fine with slow and steady. Today is my 6 week post op and Im down 18 pounds. Thats 3 pounds a week which in my mind isnt too bad. Im down 38 pounds from my heaviest before surgery so Im pretty happy. Almost in the 100's which makes me giddy I did stall at 3 weeks for about a week then upped my calories and broke right thru that puppy. -
Had my 6 week checkup and Im rockin' my sleeve. Down 18 pounds from surgery and 38 pounds from my highest weight. I love my teeny tiny sleeve

what's your sleeve size?
notmeanymore replied to banditchic's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgeon did a 32 french bougie (thats what he calls it). Said it was his standard size and in his research is the best, not too small where you cant eat anything and not to big to risk not losing enough. I am very happy with my 32 pouch. -
Single Incision Sleeve

Dr. Paul Guske in Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove Village, IL. I lurv him -
Go with the higher number as far as insurance is concerned. I had to have a 40 or higher to be approved with no comorbidities. But in my case, I had a couple comorbidities anyway but didnt have to worry because I was a 41 anyway.

Single Incision Sleeve
notmeanymore replied to Jesser's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had a single incision and it was great. Only one incision in my belly button. Ive had my gall bladder out laproscopically so I know the maintenance and healing process of having the multiple incisions and Id choose single incision every time! Instead of being concerned with my insides healing AND my mulitple exterior incisions, I really only had to worry about my insides. My one incision was a piece of cake. -
I purposely dont eat enough to feel super full. I eat about 2 ounces every 2 or 3 hours. Usually it consists of about 5 shrimp (cooked but cold), or a couple super thin pieces of turkey wrapped in a piece of cheese or 2 ounces of cottage cheese or 2 turkey sausage links. But I usually stick with 2 ounces so I dont feel uncomfortable. Liquids I can take down like nobodys business, no problem. I drink decaf tea all day long (when Im not eating of course). At night Ill have a tilapia filet but it takes me about an hour to eat the whole thing.

Im 5 weeks out and can only eat a half of a jello pudding cup. I get so full from them. I even try the mousse ones which are lighter and still can only eat a half of one before Im stuffed.

What could you not live without that first few weeks.
notmeanymore replied to manderdjs's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My pill crusher and mug warmer were my have to haves. I couldnt tolerate cold liquids at first and it would take awhile to drink a cup of decaf tea so my mug warmer was like my security blanket. I would carry it all over the house lol. Now that Im 5 weeks out, I have one at work and 2 at home (one upstairs and one downstairs). I dont need my pill crusher any longer though. Im already a lip balm addict so Ive got one in every room and every purse -
surgery is tomorrow!

The song is right, the waiting is the hardest part. Itll be over before you know it and all you will be concentrating on is sip sip sip, walk walk walk then once that all is under control its LOSE LOSE LOSE Good luck and I hope you have a speedy recovery. -
I love my sleeve, I love my restriction, I love the slow and steady weight loss, I love that my husband notices, I love that I feel good. Im so grateful for a second chance at life.

I am 2 days late and never ever ever late. Ive only lost 12 pounds since surgery a month ago so its not like I lost a ton but then I dont think Im pregnant either. This might be one of the only times I actually WANTED Aunt Flo to show up on my doorstep lol.

1 month post op yesterday. Down 12 pounds and 10 1/2 inches! Its the inches that I notice, not the pounds. Slow and steady!

What pain meds did you have
notmeanymore replied to msreaina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dilaudid in the hospital thru the IV for me for the first day. After that they attempted to give me liquid lortab that I found so disgusting I wouldnt take it which cause my heart rate and blood pressure to go up a little because I was in pain so my surgeon told them to crush Norco for me and I was right as rain. I only needed the Norco in the mornings mostly and only for a few days. Less pain than I had imagined thats for sure. But thank goodness for my magic dilaudid button in the hospital -
I had to do a 300 question thing on the computer. The questions were silly too like "do you think aliens are out to get you", "do you think all men cheat on thier wives", "do you think the government is conspiring against you?". Then just a 30 minute sit down with the Psych and he just asked about my childhood, was I abused, did I ever have anorexia, etc...They obviously want to make sure you are mentally capable of handing a big life change.

Quick Glimpse of Pre-op need to know, do's & don'ts, hospital/home checklist
notmeanymore replied to Karishero's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great list but Id like to add an extension cord for the hospital room. I found it to be the most valuable thing I brought. That way I could actually reach my phone and kindle when I needed it, even if they were charging. I did not need shampoo/conditioner/bodywash/toothpaste/toothbrush/mouthwash, the hospital provided it for me. I also brought my own pillow with a non-hospital looking pillow case just in cause they scooped it up while cleaning. I had a private room so I did not need the eye mask or ear plugs and they also provided me with a bari-bear (a teddy bear for my tender tummy). I had all the blankets I ever needed too, when I wanted another one they brought it. I did need my chapstick though Its awesome that you have researched so thoroughly! Great job. -
I do know and love Thai food. They have vegetable dishes that are low cal and you can ask for minimal oil when they prepare it. You wont starve lol.

12/5 sugery date. Lost 11.5 so far... -
I had 8 m&m's at the movies tonight if that makes you feel any better. Pre-sleeve I wouldve had a large heavily buttered popcorn and a box of snowcaps.

What is average weight loss for 1 month?
notmeanymore replied to taffyscorner76's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved 12/5 so Im coming up on my 4 weeks in 2 days. Surgery weight was 222 and today I am 210.5. Everyone loses differently but I believe that the more weight you have to lose, the faster you lose it in the beginning. Just be grateful the scale moves I guess. Slow and steady my friend -

I LOVE Dr. Guske. Every time I was feeling anxious or scared, he was so comforting and I immediately felt better. Dr. Guske visited me in the hospital and I had been having trouble getting fluids in and started getting a little down about it but he came in and told me everything I was feeling was normal and to try warm liquids instead. It worked, I tried warm liquids and was able to get my fluids in. His bedside manner is awesome, I felt immediately better after seeing him. My first postop appointment I did see a PA but my next appointment is with Dr. Guske. I feel wonderful, great, fantastic. I love my sleeve! Im 4 weeks post op in 2 days and on most regular foods now. Im just addicted to fish currently. Its so high in Protein and delicious. i dont like wasting my sleeve space for minimal protein. i drink more liquids (usually decaf tea) than I did prior to being sleeved. Discovered Fiber gummies because I had some constipation issues a couple of times but not since taking the fiber gummies. -
Don't let anyone.....
notmeanymore replied to ortega07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. My true friends are very supportive and those that I knew would judge me, I didnt tell. This is definitely not the easy way out. I had a 6 month journey from seminar to surgery and I went through a lot to get to my surgery date. Then of course there is the actual surgery and the whole new way of feeding my new tummy and living. This is no simple diet or new age scheme. I think we are all courageous for taking control of our futures because what we were doing before wasnt cutting it. Yay Sleeves!!
