Three meals a day... No snacking!?
notmeanymore replied to kimikat3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im 12 weeks out and I actually eat a couple of ounces of food (90% of the time its protein) every couple of hours. Breakfast Ill have a couple of ounces of lowfat cottage cheese or a 1/2 cup of skim milk then a couple hours later Ill have an ounce of soy nuts or a piece or 2 of turkey jerky then a couple hours later its lunch time and Ill have a couple ounces of lean meat with a half slice of cheese then a couple hours later Ill have a very small handful of blackberries (I love my fiber) then for dinner I usually have a tilapia filet (it takes me about an hour to eat it) then if I want a snack Ill have a few bites of watermelon or an ounce of nuts. I think everyone's metabolism is different but my likes it when I keep it busy all day and as long as the scale move in the right direction, Im totaly good with it. -
Unintended Effects of Surgery
notmeanymore replied to Sansa's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
LOL thats funny. I have a couple of 'tells' also. After Ive eaten an ounce or so I have a tiny burp and that means that I probably only have room for one more bite so after I eat that bite I get really loud hiccups (they crack my husband up). So once I burp my hubby will say "almost to capacity" then when I hiccup he will say "She's FULLLLLLLLLL!" like you would yell GOAL at a soccer game. He's goofy. I actually love having a signal cause there is no guessing involved, just a loud hiccup that makes people giggle. -

8 Weeks out, What to EAT?
notmeanymore replied to GoldyGirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Im 12 weeks out and an example of my daily menu is: Breakfast = 1/2 cup of skim milk or 1/2 cup cottage cheese (both have protein) Couple hours later = a couple pieces of turkey Jerky and an ounce of trail mix with soy nuts (all has protein) lunch = 6 or 7 cold shrimp or a couple of ounces of a lean meat with a half piece of cheese (Protein protein) Couple hours later = about 10 little yellow tomatoes with some bleu cheese crumbles with a tablespoon of olive oil or some black raspberries (gotta get some fiber) dinner = tilapia filet (takes about an hour to eat) Snack = an ounce or two of berries or a little slice of watermelon or some trail mix All day long though I drink hot decaf green tea. I dont eat any breads, rice or crackers at all. I get my carbs from fruits or veggies or trail mix usually. I am beginning to juice also so that I can incorporate more of the nutrients that I dont have the room for from fruits and veggies. -
Few Questions on required testing and insurance
notmeanymore replied to cmathews77's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have BCBS (basic federal) of Illinois and I didnt have to pay out of pocket for ANY appointments. Only co-pays thru the whole process. I would fight that for sure. -
I just discovered these. I like the peanut ones. 10 grams of protein and 7 fiber! The one I had was delicious and luckily for me and everyone around, no gas issues from it. I keep one in my purse for a meal on the go if Im in need.

What kind of cup are you drinking from?
notmeanymore replied to two_boysmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do sweeten my tea. I use Truvia or Splenda. Sometimes I will put a half teaspoon of organic honey too. Green tea has so many wonderful health benefits too. Not only do I stay hydrated but here is a whole list of things its great for... Weight Loss. Green tea increases the metabolism. The polyphenol found in green tea works to intensify levels of fat oxidation and the rate at which your body turns food into calories. Diabetes. Green tea apparently helps regulate glucose levels slowing the rise of blood sugar after eating. This can prevent high insulin spikes and resulting fat storage. Heart Disease. Scientists think, green tea works on the lining of blood vessels, helping keep them stay relaxed and better able to withstand changes in blood pressure. It may also protect against the formation of clots, which are the primary cause of heart attacks. Esophageal Cancer. It can reduce the risk of esophageal cancer, but it is also widely thought to kill cancer cells in general without damaging the healthy tissue around them. Cholesterol. Green tea reduces bad cholesterol in the blood and improves the ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol. Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. It is said to delay the deterioration caused by Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Studies carried out on mice showed that green tea protected brain cells from dying and restored damaged brain cells. Tooth Decay. Studies suggests that the chemical antioxidant “catechin” in tea can destroy bacteria and viruses that cause throat infections, dental caries and other dental conditions Blood Pressure. Regular consumption of green tea is thought to reduce the risk of high blood pressure. Depression. Theanine is an amino acid naturally found in tea leaves. It is this substance that is thought to provide a relaxing and tranquilizing effect and be a great benefit to tea drinkers. Anti-viral and Anti-bacterial. Tea catechins are strong antibacterial and antiviral agents which make them effective for treating everything from influenza to cancer. In some studies green tea has been shown to inhibit the spread of many diseases. Skincare. Green tea can apparently also help with wrinkles and the signs of aging, This is because of their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Both animal and human studies have demonstrated that green tea applied topically can reduce sun damage. I did not creat this list, just copied it from the net. All I know is that I love it. -
I miss being able to one-up my hubby with burps lol. Sadly I have not had a big girl burp since surgery. But then I dont drink anything carbonated. I do hiccup a lot though but sometimes they are half burp/half hiccup, sounds so girly. The other day I sounded the way Horseshack from Mr. Kotter used to laugh. Hubby thinks its hilarious

What kind of cup are you drinking from?
notmeanymore replied to two_boysmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drank from a little one ounce cup for the first week or so just so I could track how many ounces I was taking in and to get used to taking smaller sips. After that I switched to a normal cup with no problems. I dont use straws though. I was told that they put too much added air in the already really small tummy and I didnt want any gas problems. I actually stuck with warm liquids because my tummy would spasm with cold liquids so I got hooked on hot green tea from the start. Congrats on your sleeve -
9 1/2 months out and Gall Bladder surgery :(
notmeanymore replied to Lisa's Hope's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually had mine out before surgery but wanted to wish you luck. I actually had more pain after my gall bladder surgery then I did with the sleeve but then my sleeve was single incision and gall bladder was 3 incisions done laproscopically like most sleeve procedures are done. But the healing is a LOT faster. I was only out for a week from work. I felt like I did a million situps, that was the extent of the pain. Youll be glad to have it out. Good luck to you -

Back on the losing side!
notmeanymore replied to Butterflyjdjl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ive had lots of comments lately and normally I just say 'thank you' and move on but when I do get asked what Ive been doing to lose weight I usually say that I eat several tiny meals a day, mostly protein and drink lots of green tea and work out. But there is one super busy body at work that just wants to know so she can gossip about it and I told her that Ive just been having an incredible amount of sex lately That shut her up, bitter ole biddy. -
I usually do a 1/2 cup of skim milk and a 1/4 cup of cottage cheese. Sometimes Ill splurge and have a couple pieces of turkey bacon.

Post op day one!
notmeanymore replied to Jmbaker24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the most wonderful nurse in the hospital and she told me "I promise it will get better". She was right in my case. I hope the same goes for you. It was night and day from day 1 post op to day 5 post op. As for the gas, walk walk walk. It really helps. -
Heading to the hospital
notmeanymore replied to kiki1196's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got butterflies in my small tummy for you. I remember surgery day like it was yesterday. Its so exciting. Youll wake up and be on the losing side! Congrats and everything will be great! -
Im down 50 today!! Now I must go wave my hands in the air like I just dont care (I really do care though).
-
I got mine at Jewel-Osco which is Albertsons in some states.

I have many tattoos, some little, some large. And I think blood thinners would be the only concern Id have. There shouldnt be any other reason why you couldnt get one. I of course am waiting to get my next big piece on my thigh until my thigh is a bit smaller but other than that kind of stuff, blood thinners should be your only concern. Wait until they are out of your system.

I also have BCBS and was approved on the first try. I actually cried (happy tears) when the insurance coordinator from the surgeons office called me. Very very happy for you.

The defining moment you knew
notmeanymore replied to michelle4873's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lets see, could it have been the same inconsiderate person asking me on 2 different occassions when I was 'due'? Or distant relatives saying "well if you are happy at that size then it shouldnt matter what others think"? Or always having to squeeze into a restaurant booth? Or being ashamed to even eat in front of people for fear of being judged? Or always having to shop in the big girls section at any store and only fitting into clothes my gramma would wear? Or not being able to reach to shave the back side of my legs? Or having to be a contortionist to wipe my ass? Pick one. I lived with constant humiliation and shame. Now I dont shop at the big girl stores, no one asks if Im pregnant, people are amazed at how little I eat at one time, I can fit in any booth, shave my legs and wipe my ass like a champ I love my sleeve. I have so much energy, I sleep great and most importantly, Im proud of myself. -
Surgery 2/22....Scared and Excited
notmeanymore replied to boymom2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the majority of us 'sleevers' were nervous to some extent. I was actually fine and dandy and excited up until 2 days before hand. Then I got super nervous and anxious. I actually went and hugged my good friends and told them all how much I loved them (just in case of course lol). But the hospital told me I could take a xanax prior to showing up to calm my nerves and once they put me out, I woke up sleeved Nerves are normal but there isnt one thing I regret about getting sleeved except that I didnt do it sooner. Congrats to you! 10 days and youll be on the 'losers bench'. -
Last night I had a case of the hiccups for no reason at all. It went on for a good 5 minutes. I get them way more frequently now since being sleeved. I dont mind it and my hubby thinks its funny.
-
I also get the hiccups more often now that Im post-op. My hiccups are a sign that I should not take one more bite or Ill be sorry. First I burp a little, that tells me I have room for maybe one more bite then I hiccup and that means 'put the food down!'. LOL. I love my signals. When I hiccup my hubby will go "youre full!".
-
Not a single regret except for not doing it sooner. I dont think there is anything I would have done different before surgery. Im 2 months post-op. I told family and close friends. Everyone was very supportive. Suprisingly enough my mother was very supportive and she is the queen of the mother guilt and very opinionated. I would do it again in a heartbeat. This is the best thing Ive ever done for myself.
