    3 days Post-Op & Cold

I'm 8 weeks out and down almost 40 pounds and I am also freezing all the time! I was always hot before. Today my son had a soccer game and it was 50 degrees out and I felt like it was 20 below!
  2. I agree it should've been 2 inches wider, but it helped me a lot. It hurt when things felt "jiggly"!
  3. I wore mine until it was comfortable not to wear it anymore. I think I was 4 weeks out. I would take it with me to work and by about half way through the day I would put it back on.
  4. Ok so my surgeon discovered a stricture through an endoscopy on Thursday. He dilated my esophagus and immediately the pressure in my chest was gone. Yesterday other than a sore throat I felt better and it was easier to get fluids down. Now today the pressure in my chest is back and I'm really struggling to get anything down again! WTH? So my guess is my esophagus closed back up. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm so frustrated and can not continue on 100 calories or less per day! I'll be 8 weeks out on Wednesday and this is NOT normal!

    When can we drink soda

The fact is that carbonation is not going to stretch your sleeve, but we are still told to stay away from it. If you're told you shouldn't have something I think it's ignorant to eat/drink it anyways. Why take the chance? I didn't go through all of this to eat/drink something I was specifically told not to.

    suggestions

I had an upper endoscopy done yesterday and it was a stricture. I did not require a stent. They dilated my esophagus and hopefully that does the trick. I was going through the exact same thing. You should contact your surgeon not your PCP. He did the surgery and will fix the stricture.
  7. I'm asking this because at 7 weeks out I should not feel as though my restriction is getting tighter. Shouldn't it slowly be getting to be more? A few weeks ago I struggled to reach 500 calories a day and now I can't even get in 200! I have absolutely no appetite, but I know I'm starving my body. Everything makes me gag and I throw up pretty often. All of a sudden I'm having difficulty swallowing pills and I was fine swallowing pills as soon as I was discharged from the hospital. I have put a call into my surgeon's nurse. I'm worried because I just feel that something is wrong. Everything I eat or drink feels trapped in my throat.
  8. I did have a stricture and he dilated my esophagus during the endoscopy. I did not require a stent.
  9. Did anyone ever have to have a stent put in if it was discovered you have a stricture? I have an upper endoscopy done tomorrow and this could be a possibility. I'm really nervous about this, but I know I can't go on continuing to feel how I've been feeling the past couple of weeks.
  10. He thinks I have a stricture and I'm getting an upper endoscopy tomorrow!

    Carbonated Beverages

I was told NO carbonation of any kind.
  12. What exactly is a stricture? How do you know if there's an issue like a stricture? How do they determine this (scoping I'm sure) and how do they fix it?
  13. It happened to me and still does occasionally, but I've had IBS for the last 24 years and I attribute it mostly to that.
  14. I am 7 weeks out (on Wednesday) and I still have so much restriction that I can barely eat anything! I am cleared for regular food at this point, but I still stick with soft foods because many foods don't always agree with me. I'm lactose intolerant (which has gotten worse since surgery) so I can't do milk, yogurt or ice cream and had a very difficult time finding a protein drink in the beginning that didn't make me sick. I had no idea whey protein is milk protein. Isopure was the only thing I could somewhat tolerate and now it makes me gag. Even drinking can be difficult. Last night I took one too many sips of my Gatorade G2 and threw it all up. I'm drained all the time because my calories are too low. I work full-time and eating makes me nervous now because I never know if it will make me sick. My surgeon said this is normal for the first few months. I had hoped it would get easier at this point, but I feel stuck where I'm at.
  15. I've never heard of anyone not gaining while in the hospital. It seems pretty common/normal. Even my feet felt swollen while I was in the hospital! It all comes off!
  16. I'm in the same boat, but I'm almost 7 weeks out. I thought my issues were due a lot to reflux, but last week my surgeon changed my PPI and it has gotten slightly better. I try to get in fluids as much as possible, but I just feel I'm depleting my body!
  17. It's normal for the first few months. So are food aversions. It should get better after a few months according to my surgeon.

    Suggestions on what to eat?

Don't lay down after eating-my surgeon said that's the worst thing you can do. Let gravity work towards your benefit and remain upright for as long as possible!

    Later on in life...

I have had gastritis for 12 years and took medication for years. It did improve some and I no longer needed daily medication. It was discovered a had a small hiatal hernia so that was fixed during surgery. My surgeon says the first few months tend to be bad for reflux especially if you've had prior issues and for me it definitely has been. He prescribes a PPI to everyone for the first few months because even if you do not have a history of reflux it could be an issue. Hopefully mine gets better with time and I don't require medication forever, but like someone else posted I'd rather be thin and on a medication than fat!

    meds

You should be able to take them. My surgeon allowed me to take pills right from the start. I have one capsule that is HUGE and I tried to swallow it and it made me "slime" which was miserable! I haven't tried that one since!
  21. Does anyone have a good vitamin that you can swallow? My gummy vitamins are making me gag. It can't be a gigantic pill either-I got the slimes from trying to swallow too large of a pill just a few days ago.

    Slimies. Foamies.

You can also get the slimes from swallowing too big of a bite. Last night it happened to me from swallowing one of my pills. The worst part was I felt like it was stuck in my throat ALL night and the foamy saliva I was throwing up tasted like dissolved pills! It was awful!
  23. I'm 6 weeks out and feel the exact same way! My surgeon told me yesterday that it will get better within the next 1-2 months! Now is when you have the most restriction, but it's hard for me to eat anything! I'm jealous of those that have sleeves of steel!
  24. I'm 6 weeks out and finally started losing real weight only about 3 weeks ago. I only had to do a one week liquid Pre-op diet and only lost 3 pounds before surgery. Then I gained 6 pounds in the 4 days I was in the hospital so I got frustrated and felt the same way. I thought I was going to be the one person the sleeve didn't work on! I lost like .5-1 pounds here and there, but finally started losing good numbers about 3 weeks ago. I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and today my surgeon told me I had lost more than was typical for how far out I am. (I can also only get in about 500 calories/day.) I just have so much restriction still. Don't worry and don't weight yourself often. Once you feel your clothes getting slightly looser then weigh yourself. The weight will come off!
