What foods made you dump?
greensleeve replied to Lthomas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a sleever but if I eat things with too much sugar I get heart palpitations and feel sick. Its not as bad as the stories I've heard from bypassers. Last night I ate at a new Mexican place. I had three chips with salsa and maybe three bites of burrito with guac. After dinner they gave us tiny mints. I had one and had to spit it out because my heart started racing. I have had a bite of a brownie or a spoon of ice cream and neither made my heart race. -
surgery Monday and I'm fearful
greensleeve replied to MaureenS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope your friends either come around or you find people who are supportive. Being nervous is normal. I assume you have researched your surgeon and talked to others who he or she operated on. Did those people have any issues? I was so beyond anxious. It's such a life changing event, so many unknowns. And surgery is scary. At least to most people. I am four months out and I have lost 77 pounds. I don't regret it at all. The first few months are challenging but anything worthwhile is difficult in some way! I am doing things I never could before, I feel so much younger, I have so much energy, sex is better, I have such a different relationship with food. You will do great, just come here when you need help! -
Four months and 76 pounds down, I feel great, I like looking in the mirror now, I can do so much more. I feel like I'm me and not me with a bunch of extra stuff on top. I get my Protein, take my Vitamins and drink my Water every day. It was hard at first but I am so so so glad I had surgery. (Sleeve)

I can't believe it. I had surgery in March. I'm so happy. This is just mind blowing!

How about some NSVs!?!?
greensleeve replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I walked up and down multiple steps all weekend without getting winded or tired. Someone told me I looked skinny. Woo! -
Wonderful! You have worked hard!

That's 75 pounds since the pre op diet. Here's what I do. Aim for 65 grams Protein every day, which I hit 95% of the time. Drink at least 62 ounces fluids a day. Eat protein first Eat low fat, no white sugar, low carb food. I have good fat like olive oil and nuts. I log everything I eat in My Fitness Pal every single day. I have 1000 calories as my limit but it's usually around 700. Hope that helps.

Thanks! I haven't been this small in over ten years!

Chia or flaxseeds? How to incorporate into diet..
greensleeve replied to Lthomas's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I put PB2, Greek yogurt and splenda together and put in Chia seeds. -
I had beyond a stressful day today. Usually I would want to eat to make my nerves calm down, distract myself, or I would be so out of it that I would just mindlessly eat more than I should. Instead I found that I had to remind myself to eat, and I just didn't feel like eating much. I was too busy. I'm so glad that I'm seeing these major changes. It seems like my whole relationship with food has changed. But also I think I handle stress in general much better now. I don't know if it's the confidence? I know now that I'm worth it. I'm worth protecting, I'm worth defending. I am worth it. I also see how sometimes when you don't get exactly the answer you wanted, you still win. You still went through the process and showed people that you are going to stand up for yourself and not back down. And I think for many of us the decision to have the surgery and to get the insurance approval and jump through all the hoops is like that. It's a battle of constantly rethinking whether you are worth going to so much trouble and spending the money and time. If anyone is still trying to decide I just have to tell them that they are worth it!

Big post op change for me.
greensleeve replied to greensleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks! I'm just enjoying this process so much. I feel like I should do a commercial for the sleeve. -
Has this happened to anyone? I had to sit on a bench today for a while and when I stood up I couldn't feel my foot! My whole leg was asleep. I can't remember if I had my legs crossed? This hasn't happened to me in maybe fifteen years. Is that a coincidence or is it because I have less cushion in the back so the nerves get compressed on a hard surface? It was kind of scary!

You are a pretzel!

Sorry to hear it Melodica. I wish I hadn't been so nervous pre op, but I don't think there's a way to change that. It helped me lose more weight too. food funerals and getting the last bits of unhealthy things does nothing. My tastes have changed so much I don't crave anything or miss anything.

Follow Up Q's After WLS Introductory Seminar
greensleeve replied to RAR70's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You will find every surgeon and nutrition ist are different, which sometimes feels crazy. But the thing is, if you do your research and then trust your surgeon, you need to really trust them and believe that their way is the way to go. Personally I don't drink with meals because I don't have enough room for food then. I sometimes take a sip just to wet my whistle but no real drinks. Three meals a day is ideal but for me, I wouldn't be able to get in all my Protein that way. I track everything that I eat and drink and know how many grams of protein and how many calories I eat every single day. My nutritionist said to just track protein and if you reach that goal you won't have room for other things. I personally avoid sugar, fried food, high carb food and I haven't had a soda since weeks before surgery. My surgeon is ok with coffee. Its the only way I can get through the day sometimes! I can't say I miss any food. I have had a tiny bite like once a week of something "bad", just to taste it. And I'm fine. I don't feel like eating a ton of it or feel like I'm missing out. I waste a lot of food going out to eat and take a it of left overs home. Alcohol is high in calories and can hurt your stomach, lower your inhibitions so you eat poorly, and it hits you a lot faster. It can also lead to a transfer of addiction from food to drinking. So surgeons really don't want us to drink. -
Oh that's so great to hear! I have to say I really appreciate these people telling their stories in public. And not even telling their stories but letting us see so many private moments. It has to be hard to be so exposed like that. I hope that they are able to help a lot of people.

I keep thinking "oh they are getting a car. Wait, no."

Well Im attached but I wish you luck! Great idea. -
I'm in size 16 now but the butt is baggy. The rest of me isn't small enough to fit into a smaller size. I'm hoping this is just temporary and the waist area will start to follow because I really don't want to have to be a baggy butt forever!

Good to know this won't last forever! I just don't like skirts yet. I still feel like my calves are huge and pasty. But for some reason I feel ok in capris.

Anxiety about upcoming surgery...is this a good idea?
greensleeve replied to advocating09's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can't answer the part about flying but the anxiety is completely normal. I lost four pounds before the pre op diet because my stomach was so upset I could hardly eat. It is a major decision, a major change. You will do great. I am three months out and I just wish I had done this sooner! I am so grateful for the surgery. -
Weight loss/fitness "contagion"?
greensleeve replied to Skywalker's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's happening here. H has lost over five pounds just from eating less. He is already skinny but had a little tummy which is almost all gone now. I think it's eye opening for a lot of people at least in the US to see how little food we actually need to thrive. His portion sizes have gone way down. -
Before and after pics! 80 pounds gone forever!

How old do you think I am?
greensleeve replied to AutumnPunkin's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
So how old are you? -
Recently I mixed an avocado with Greek yogurt, garlic, salt and pepper, and some salsa. I put some on a turkey burger, (without a bun),it was so good.
