  1. Yeah, most people like that have their own struggles going on and the only thing that makes them feel good is ridiculing others.

    Eating

You'll be able to eat the burger in a few months, the only thing is you'll have 3 or 4 bites max with the bun included. I doubt you'll be even intersted in eating that post-op just due to your new diet regime. Bread has no purpose in my life anymore, it hurts and is a waste of space.
  4. Let me tell you, I was the same way, Once I would start sweating, forget it, It would look like someone threw a water balloon on me, even in winter. Since the surgery, I'm freezing cold all the time. Even on a warm 85 degree day, I'm still not sweating or feeling sticky. My energy bill has gone down considerably because I don't the house like a meat locker anymore. I hope it works for you like that because I know what a burden it can be to always appear like you just ran a marathon around people.

1 yr 4 mos post op

Just out of curiousity, how much are you able to consume that far post op? You say you eat bad, how much of the bad stuff can you eat?

Anyone have 6 month diet waived by insurance?

I have BCBS-TX and at first I was told about the 6 month diet. I get a call about about 2 or 3 weeks later saying that I didn't need 6 month diet but still had to do the pysch and other pre-surgery requirements. I had a 5 year history of over 40 BMI so I think that played a key part in it also.
  7. Yeah, my understanding is that by 6 months were healed over. Surprises that a leak occurred that late in the process. Geez and here I was thinking I was out of the risk catagory.

    Drinking help

In my opinion, since we lose the ability to consume large amount of food, our minds still don't lose that mentality of mass consumption. In other words, don't substitute alcohol for food because its something we can consume again in quantity. Plus with the ability to get anebriated faster, it can lead to bad habits.

    Alcohol

I'm 6 months out I it definitely changed for me. I get 2 beers down and I'm feeling pretty good. Now, 1 beer is the equivalent to 3 for me. I know this cause I would't start feeling good until a six pack down.

    Am I sabotaging myself?

Your issues sound a lot like mine, first the texture of eggs (that I use to love) make me sick. Im constantly eating imported cheeses and thin water crackers w/ thin slices of meat. I can handle things that are crunchy and or slider foods of course. You will find out over the next few weeks what makes you happy and it will become your routine. Eating is different for everyone on here, some people are eating things I cant imagine post surgery but all the more to them if they can get it down. This surgery is to restrict our consumption not our choices, the choices are your decision.

    TOMORROW's the BIG DAY!

Your all gonna be fine, I second guessed myself all the way up till I was laying in the bed waiting for the anesthesiologist. Once I got that pre shot I knew there was no backing out. Now, almost 6 months later, I feel blessed that I got the opportunity to have this life saving procedure. All of you will be back on this site months later reading newbies worried about surgery date and thinking to yourselves its gonna be a breeze for these rookies and they'll be loving life in a few months.
  13. Its ok to test yourself every now but don't fall in the bad habits of trying to eat the old junk we did in the past. Pizza has its advantages and disadvantages so chalk it up as a slider food. I have pizza every once in awhile and like you its only one piece which doesn't discourage me about the total carb intake. Enjoy your sleeve and remember its a journey so don't get discouraged by the post that are coming about the devastating consequences of eating 1 piece of pizza.

    Wings & Spice?

You should be able to tolerate wings pretty well but take your time and chew well, I doubt you'll be able to handle more than 5 though.
  15. I too was enjoying a glass of orange juice every morning for awhile until I met with my NUT and she gave me the lecture on the carbs associated with orange juice. My feeling is this, is has some good benefits to it and its a good start to a day at work. Before I would drink 2 or 3 cups of coffee so I'm gonna enjoy my OJ and not feel guilty.

Hungry or not at all hungry after surgery

I was just like you, my lack of hunger lasted several months but little by little you start getting hungrier but nowhere near the levels I was at pre-surgery
  17. I used to be a huge fan of eggs but can't stand the texture of them anymore. Spaghetti also isn't very appeasing to my palate.
  18. I wanted some flexibility in my diet so I chose the sleeve. I know we have to still watch the carbs but I didn't want the dumping effect that come with the bypass. Not being able to enjoy the sweeter things in life is not living in my opinion anyway.
  19. I wish I gotten myself in the habit of eating slower beforehand. Still to this day I have a tendancy to just inhale my meal which in turn makes my sleeve uncomfortable. Plus, I eat so little at a sitting that I'm literally through with my meal in like 5 minutes.

How does alcohol affect you different now?

I definitely get a buzz earlier with only 2 or 3 beers. It used to take me a six pack before I would start feeling good. I think the ratio for me is 1beer=3beers, so its good I'm drinking less to get intoxicated.
  21. You have to remember too that your taste buds might change also, I used love eggs pre-surgery but now its something about the texture that its not at all appeasing to me anymore. Same thing with spaghetti.

    Americans are doomed!

I can easily recall the day when I would have walked thru that meal and been looking for a snack couple of hours later.

    Still fat!

Good job!! the only thing you need to get rid of now is that Cowboys poster on the wall and you'll be perfect.

    Tell or dont tell

I choose to tell those people around me who are struggling with the same issues. I don't tell the others because its none of their business. Its hard though, I mean one month to the next your dropping weight like your refrigerator broke or something. At the end of the day, if people give you crap or you get a insensitive look from somebody, who the hell cares, they don't walk in your shoes.
