Sleeve: The UNTOLD Story
Pelekania replied to NotTelling2013's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
The only odd ball I had is that I spent my entire night throwing up saliva and what appeared to be alot of blood. Even then I still had totally faith in my doctors abilities and knew I had made the right decision. The next morning after talking to one of my physicians about it, she informed me that she thought that might happen because my ethnicity has a high sensitivity to anesthesia on top of having major surgery. -
If you have an HEB in your area, they carry a brand called Mootoopia (non fat) that gives you 12g of protein! Just started buying that and choc milk for a snack.

Sleeve: The UNTOLD Story

Oftentimes people do not know what they would do until they are left with no alternative. Did I want to go to MX at first? Heck no! Surgeries being done on a couch, me being left butt-naked for everyone to see my goodness and lets not talk about the complications. I knew I didn't have the patience to wait for my insurance, so I did my research on MX and medical tourism. And guess what??? All those stereotypical views of a "third world country" (as you say), was a bunch of bull! Now I am sure black street surgeons exist everywhere, but you should definitely do your own research and educate yourself a little more on the subject matter before making harsh comments about other decisions just because your perception of MX are based off of movies and talk shows. -

Like you, I have really good insurance and could of haf my surgery done here. However, I did not want to do the 6 month diet and other requirements, I could have lost an entire person by the end of that! I could have also saved some more money and had surgery here, but why not pay less and go to a doctor who frequently does the surgery. My experience in MX was quite different then the OP.Probably the best care I have ever reveived...from the attentive nurses and doctors! My surgery was delayed and come to find out my anesthesiologist's son and many others died while on a field trip in America. -
I am about to order a Nu Wave oven... Have read great reviews on it. I am literally always on the go and you can take something from the freezer, put it on their, and in less than half the time of using the oven it is cooked.

It definitely will lol! You made a good point with healthy food costing more then junk food. Such a shame! When I would eat fast food, the only time I ordered a salad was when I was dieting. But I do love chic fil a chicken nuggets but then I have to have those delicious waffle fries! -

Do you feel at all weak since in essence you are burning all the calories that you ate? I don't want to pass out at the gym, but I am so use to intense workouts. -

Talk to one of the trainers at the gym and they can provide you with some guidance and tell you about the machines. I love free weights... Use to be a powerlifter back in grade school, so now I am trying to focus on loving cardio like I love pushing Iron. -

I was thinking of how we could get rid of McDonalds! Lol those greasy, delicious, salty high calorie fries! Everything revolves around food, whether it is having a family gathering or a business meeting... Food makes its way to the center. We just have to learn to deal with it and not let it be the focus of attention. -
Hmmm I guess since I wouldn't have anything nice to say, I will suppress my thoughts.

Check out foodnetwork.com or epucurious.com, they both have some amazing recipes for catfish, especially blackened. You can probably tweak and substitute it to make it even more healthy.

Graveyard Shift/ Awkward sleep hours
Pelekania replied to Pelekania's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on your weightloss! That's what I don't understand. If my night is another's day and vice versa, why should it make a difference? If I were in Hawaii (I use to live their) or Alaska... The night/ days are completely different from the mainland. But like another poster mention and you, we definitely need our sleep... I am just not getting enough. One of my healthy snacks have been to have mixed peppers with guacamole and salsa. Mmm I may just have to work extra hard. -
Graveyard Shift/ Awkward sleep hours
Pelekania posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have tried searching for someone that has posted on something such as this, but have had no success. I work from 1800- 0600 most days. Once I am off from work, I sleep until 10 and then go to school and return back home around 3ish. I then take a nap until approximately 1700. So on 2 days I average about 5 hours of broken sleep and on my other days I am in class I awake before 12. I try and space my meals and Snacks out while I am in class and at work (feels like I am eating all day). So my question is, has anyone notice or read anything about experiencing a slower weightloss due to your work/ sleep schedule? How do you plan or space out your meals? What are your on the go snacks? I do not have a NUT, so I can't refer to them. Thank you in advance! -
My Suggestion-Stop The Obsessing. Rules Are Meant To Be Broken
Pelekania replied to NJSleeveboy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This was a very good post and you have hit some key points. When we deprive ourselves of something, sometimes that can lead to us over eating or eating off plan. I believe so many people who have there surgery are in a rush to get to goal weight that they don't learn how to live or maintain that weight because of deprivation of certain foods. I haven't eaten anything "bad" and I do have craving but they are false because the only reason I want it is because I can't have it. My surgeon is in MX and when I read some threads a lot of people are quick to say ask your NUT/ DOC don't listen to person A, B, or C. Well some of us don't have that and some of us are not looking for permission to eat whatever. So this was an excellent post IMO for those individuals that don't see a NUT. -
I buy the one from GNC

I didn't notice the weight gain until I started back to work. I did forget to add the exercising in their. I work out on the days I have less hours to be at school... Doing cardio so far and looking for a private personal trainer that doesnt charge so much. I am about to be 3 weeks out.. -
Super Positive Sunday! Love your sleeve, Love Yourself!
Pelekania replied to deedeemuffin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am very grateful that I decided to have this surgery. I did no go through insurance ( I didn't want to do that drawn out process), but I busted my behind to save up the money to have it done in MX. I am thankful that my family are so supportive, attentive, and caring even with the distance in between us. I have my days when I am down because either I don't see the scale moving or I see a gain ( not sure if their is an association between my work/ sleep schedule). And I am also glad that a community exist such as this... people who are experiencing and going through similar things. -
Hey, why did you tell me you were coming to my town????? I live all the way in TX! I think that's a great idea... Spread your wisdom and knowledge!

Some individuals do not know how to be tactful when trying to provide "constructive criticism". Deedeemuffin I am glad to see that you stuck around. Vst really have some amazing people that are helpful and some that gives you that "tough love" without sounding so condescending... Proudgrammy comes to mind. So don't let one run it deter you from posting because sometime you just can't find what you are looking for. Just always remember that everyone has an opinion and oftentimes what we desire to say does not come across that way when writing. Take what you can use and simply ignore those who live in the world of no mistakes since that person would be unable to relate. On a lighter note, I will be purchasing the book and workbook: The Beck Diet Solution: Train Your Brain to Think Like a Thin Person by Judith Beck. Lol because The Lord knows that I still think like an obese person and just eating those small portion aaarrrggghhhh makes me mad! Lol no more barbeque with rice and beans, potatoe salad, Mac n cheese, and Hawaiian rolls mmmm my mouth is salivating just think about my southern cooking. Lol
