    If we all Pull together....

Congratulations! You sound like you're work'n that sleeve and are loving it. I am 2 weeks out and am already loving it to. I like that you named your new tummy....makes me want to name mine. Keep up the good work and have a fantastic year.

    Back pain

I've read alot of posts where people had to get their gallbladder removed soon after having WLS. Mine was already out, but my surgeon said he always removes them at while he's in there just so the patient doesn't have to get cut again. Hope everything turns out well. Good luck!
  3. Pure Protein mixes well. I've only tried the vanilla, mix it with 4 oz. water/4 oz. Trop50 OJ and it tastes like a dreamcicle. YUM!

    QUESTION?

My surgeon and nut said you lose the most in the first 6 months, then should continue to lose slowly until about a year out....then you're on your own to keep going.
  5. Glad you enjoyed your holidays and so happy that your family was excited for you. Doesn't it feel great?!! Dancing is the best exercise, you should do it more often and you'll end up a pro. Congrats!

    Incision Pain After 4 Months

Maybe the pressure of the jeans caused a pinch of a hernia, I'd check for lumps and go see your Dr.

    Possible leak?

I was told after 3 weeks your risk of a leak is nil, as the stomach has grown over the staple line so there is nothing to "snag". But if you're worried, call your surgeon's office. Better to be safe than sorry.
  8. Hi all. I am 41 years old, 5'4 and started at 270 lbs. I never considered surgery because like alot of people I thought it was the easy way out and that if I really wanted to lose it I should be able to do it on my own. However, after failing to lose the weight for 10+ years, and definitely after being diagnosed with diabetes, I decided to have WLS. I did alot of research, including all the different types of WLS and the surgeons. I ultimately decided on the sleeve. So I went through all the requirements of my insurance and surgeon and was sleeved on 12/19/12 with use of the robot (which I highly recommend). I have not had any complications or issues as of yet (knock on wood), although I'm only 2 weeks out. I had no pain after surgery other than a little gas pain, but I didn't need or use any pain medications. I was released home the following day, OFF my diabetes medication, which is exactly what my main goal was, so I'm already a winner. The weight loss is just a bonus. I have had no vomiting, slimes, migraines, leaks, leg cramps, gas pains, or anything else (knock on wood) other than being a little more tired. I am not hungry at all and am working on getting all my fluids and Protein in. I saw my nut on 12/31 and was down 15 lbs. and according to my measurements had lost 7" in just 12 days. She told me I needed to increase my calories, which was awesome because I've never been told that before, even when I was a twig. There is no way I would've been able to lose this weight, and keep it off, without this surgery. I know it's just a tool and that after the 6 month honeymoon phase it'll be up to me to continue losing and maintain when I reach my goal, but I already know I will do it. I feel great, I'm looking better everyday, and all my "fat" issues are slowly going away. I love my sleeve! Good luck to all of you who have made this life changing decision, it really is a blessing. Here's to the rest of our FIT lives.

    RA in REMISSION!

    That's awesome news. Congrats!
  10. I'd increase your carbs, just until you start gaining and then maintain that amount. I've heard that's how it's done.
  11. It'll get better, we were sleeved on the same day. I saw my nut on monday and was released to eat most anything, but still don't want to eat alot. She told me to increase my calories because I was only getting in about 350-450 day and to eat every 3-4 hrs. so I set an alarm on my phone to remind me to eat. I can only eat about 2 oz. of anything. I just had 2 slices of ham w/ 1/2 a wedge of laughing cow cheese for dinner and am feeling it. But I lost 15 lbs. and 7" as of monday, so I think the calories to play a roll. Just try to find something that tastes good and that your tummy can handle, even if it's just soup. Hang in there girl....you can do this.

How do u convince ur doct that ur happy w the size u r?

Does your current weight still put you in the overweight/obese area of the BMI chart? He may be wanting you to get your BMI down to the normal range is all. If you're happy with where you are, then don't worry about what he wants. It's not like he can force you to do it. Enjoy your sleeve.
  13. Don't you have a regular Dr. that you'd go see. They should have an intake form with your weight for ea. visit, which they can then figure out your bmi from. I had to call 2 different Dr's offices for my intake forms, and then faxed them to the surgeon's office. I was approved within 48 hrs.
  14. Ditto that! Happy New Year!
  15. I'm 2 weeks out and can only eat 1/4c. of anything. I just saw my nutritionist on monday who said by 3 months out you should be able to eat 1/2c., and by a year out you should be at 1c....and then that's the limit. Maybe you should measure and stick with that....don't want to stretch it out too soon.

    First entry

I can relate to everything you were saying. I am a carbaholic and knew I'd never lose the weight on my own, considering I've been trying for 10+ years without the scale moving. I was sleeved exactly 2 weeks ago today, and as of Monday, 12 days post-op I was 15 lbs. down and 7" smaller. I already sleep better, have no numbness upon waking and my clothes are much looser. I'm loving my sleeve, and I'm sure you will to. The hassle you have to go through to get it, and the pain and liquid diet following are a pain, but are well worth it. Just keep your eyes on the prize and you'll be fine. Good luck on your journey to a new you!

    Last day of puree!

I got the go ahead to start most regular foods yesterday, but was told to eat every 3 hrs. to keep my metabolism going, so I downloaded a timer on my phone to go off every 3 hrs. so I can go grab my 1/4c. meal/snack. I'm more worried about getting in my 48-64oz. of water between all of that though. Good luck and enjoy!

need advice! when can I start exercising?

I was told riding a bike, walking or swimming only. No strenuous exercises until 3 months out, your staple line takes 8 weeks to heal over....don't want to create a leak. But every Dr. has their own rules, so I'd ask them.
  21. Happy New Year! It's gonna be a great year!

    Scared has helll

I am 12 days out and have not been hungry since the surgery; I'm merely eating/drinking to survive. As far as head hunger, that is up to you. I haven't had any problems with it; I watched everyone scarf on xmas day and I've gone to a restaurant with family and ate my 1/4c. of soup while they got so full they felt sick. I'm loving my sleeve, and I'm down 15 lbs. and have lost 7" already.
  23. Hi all. Just wanted to say I'm loving my sleeve. I'm only 12 days out but have lost 14 lbs. and 7" total already! I'm so excited and know I will reach goal. I also bought me a recumbent stationary bike and tube bands to workout my arms while pedaling so I can work out at home when the weather doesn't want to cooperate....which seems to be quite often here lately. Here's to a great 2013!!

    High BMI and Pre-op Diet

I've read some posts where they were required to do it for 1 month pre-op. If you can do it now, I'd go for it.
  25. Thanks for the info. I'm almost 2 weeks out and am looking forward to getting my workout on.
