    HE JUST DOESNT GET IT!

Hey JPS, I think we all had our "food funerals"; however, please remember that you will be able to eat most of the foods you love after your surgery, albeit maybe 3-6 months out. The thing with VSG is you don't have any real food restrictions, just recommendations. You can eat anything your stomach can tolerate, but your cravings will fade for the junk foods. I haven't been hungry since the day of my surgery and basically only eat to get my protein in. Since I'm not hungry, and can't eat but 1/4c. of food at a time, I focus on protein (chicken, eggs, lunch meat) and don't even really want anything else. My hubby has made cookies several times, had ice cream (which was always my weakness), and I have been around alot of cakes lately due to work parties...but I honestly have no desire to even have a bite. They just really don't interest me anymore. My point is, there is no need to mourn food, cause you'll eventually get to eat them again and you will savor every 2 bites of it you can have. Good luck and I wish you all the best.

    Answers please...

If your Dr. and/or Nut tells you it is. Follow their advise, just because others can eat more at this point than you doesn't mean they have the same issues you may have. Your starting weight, medical conditions, etc..all play a role. Just hang in there, once you're past the liquid phase it'll be a distant memory. It's all part of the process to the new, improved you. Good luck!

    Surgery tomorrow morning!

Good luck to you and I hope you have a quick and smooth recovery. Keep your focus on the end goal, not the little sucky things in the middle.

    2 week countdown

My advice is to focus on why you are having the surgery, and the things you want to achieve and keep your eye on the prize. All the pre-op hassle, the pre/post-op liquid diets, anxiety, emotional ups/downs are small things in the big picture and they fade very quickly when you start seeing the scale dropping along with your pant size. Good luck and I wish you a quick process and a smooth recovery post-op.

    I've got a tough crowd.

But you said it yourself, that person has never been overweight and doesn't understand why people are obese. I myself never had a weight problem until my adult years, after a car accident took me from being extremely active to non-active for 2 years and the weight slowly kept piling on. It's not like anyone wants to be obese, or chooses this life, but things happen. I have done the high protein, low carb (same as post-op diet) in the past, along with many other things like WW and exercise..., and guess what...they didn't work. I had been at the same weight +/- 5 lbs. for 12 years prior to my sleeve. The reason I ended up having WLS is because I was told last year i was diabetic and was put on metformin. I didn't want to live with diabetes, and figured the risk of the surgery was way less than that of the diabetes. I went into the hospital a diabetic and left the hospital the next day not one. I am now one month out and down 21 lbs. last time i checked and food no longer controls me. I'm never hungry and now eat to survive, not because it tastes good or I have to clear my plate like I was told to when I was younger. Now I can have a bite or 2 of foods I like and am satisfied, but the great thing is, is I no longer crave carbs...at all. I don't want the ice cream, pizza, bread, cookies, etc. that I used to love. I just have no interest in them anymore. Anyway, everyone has their own reasons for having WLS, and as long as you are absolutely sure it is the best thing for you then you need to do it. This is YOUR life and you must live it for you first. Best of luck to you, and whatever you chose I hope it's the best choice for you.
  12. At 2 weeks post-op my nut told me to try and get between 600-700 calories, 50+ protein and at least 48 oz of liquids NOT counting my protein shakes. I am now a month out and am fine with the calories and protein, but still only able to get about 32 oz of liquids a day. But each Dr. and Nut is different...and it may also depend on your starting weight, so I'd ask them. Good luck!

    loose skin

I would love to swim off my loose skin and fat, but unfortunately where I live if you're not military you have to pay a gym membership to swim...unless you go to the beach. They really need a YMCA or a rec center in this town.
  14. Congrats on your loss and good check-up. Check this site out and try the ricotta bake.....it's delish. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/

When do u get to work out?

My surgeon released me to full activity at my 3 week follow-up, but I was not having any problems either....and every surgeon is different. Just be careful and don't overdo it, your stomach doesn't fully heal for about 7-8 weeks.

    And so it begins....

Good luck. I'm sure you will be pleased with the sleeve, every revision story I've read say they like it much more than the band.
  19. I'm thinking about tanning myself, although I really fear the skin cancer. But I'm out in the summer a ton anyway so a feel a little base now won't hurt and might make me feel better.

    What is....

It's a powdered peanut butter that is low fat/low calorie and higher in protein. I've heard it's really good, but I haven't tried it yet. It's kind of expensive I think. I like regular peanut butter, and it's not like I can eat alot of it being sleeved. lol

    My 1st year anniversary

Thanks for sharing. Congratulations on your success.
  24. I just made an excel spreadsheet to keep track of my weight loss/gains and inches. It's easier to log everything in.
  25. I had a similar experience. No pain after surgery and haven't had any trouble with food. I still, however, am not able to get my 64 oz. of liquid in a day and I'm a month out. As far as food, I have been sticking to the program and not eating things forbidden at this stage, but what I have been able to eat I haven't had any problem with. I can only eat about 2-3 oz. at a time before I get the pain and burping...so I stop. I don't want to get sick. We all heal differently and our tummies can all handle foods differently. Try not to compare to anyone else and as long as your feel good, don't worry about it. It will work for you, even if it's slowly. Good luck!
