I could have decaf right from the start. My nutritionist said that we could have regular, after we got in 64 ounces of water...because it was a diuretic. Other surgeons say something different I know. I know that my heart doesn't race as much as I have difficulty with that and my "boobs" aren't as lumpy so I only occasionally have caffeine.

When will I stop being pissed off?
carstanger replied to michaelw157's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take meds for anxiety, so I may not have the answer. I had 5 weeks of liquids and found it very difficult to be upbeat!! My daughter who had the same surgery before me, told me that if I did the 5 weeks correctly, I never had to do that again. On top of that, my surgery was the 12th of Nov. so I was still on liquids for Thanksgiving, etc. It does get better. They had me walking the first day, so I tried to increase that as I could. I think I was mad because I couldn't have some of the things I wanted to eat. Now that I'm almost a year out, I realize that it was easier not to eat the first bite than have only a little bit of some foods. Take it one day at a time, and if you need to one hour at a time. It will be worth it!!! Good luck! -
How do you know if its dumping or a virus?
carstanger replied to Skinny in Here's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Did you have the sleeve??? I only had the runs a few times, and wondered the same as dumping is usually not with the sleeve. Never for 3 days in a row. I'd call your surgeon and check. -
Very Concerned about protein tolerance
carstanger replied to Christa Deterding's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Try a different type of protein. I am almost a year out and still using Unjury which I like to supplement as I'm still trying to lose. When is your surgery??? My doctor required 2 weeks before of liquids, as well as 3 weeks of liquid proteins afterwards. I had a hard time with eggs and am just able to eat them now. Don't get discouraged. -
Urgh feeling very frustrated 2 weeks post op tomorrow...guidance please help
carstanger replied to charmsmany's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does get better!!!! I wondered at one point early on why I had done this. Now I still get sick if I forget and eat too fast but I wish I had done it sooner. I can do so many more things and am off so many meds that it is worth it. Good luck and keep in touch with us for support. -
Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!
carstanger replied to timetobefree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Surgery date 11/12/12 HW 225.5 CW 135.8 Down 89.7 I'm 5 ft 2 and my surgeon's goal is 130.. normal BMI. 5.8 pounds to go and I have 2 weeks. I was wearing size 12 slacks and tried on 8P and I could get into them....Just a little tight! -
I'm 66 and Nov 12th I will be 1 year post sleeve. I was 225.5 at my highest weight at my first consultation. Weighed 136.2 this morning.... of course, I was in my birthday suit. Goal weight is 130 for normal BMI as I'm 5 feet 2 inches. Off meds for high blood pressure, cholesterol, all NAISDs, and many supplements. Still high protein since I'm still losing. Couldn't be happier!! Last night I was at my daughter's who is a doctor and also had the surgery 2 years ago, and I was wearing size 12. I fit into her 8P slacks and she told me to go shopping again.!! My sister and brother don't acknowledge my weight loss and I think there is jealousy or they think it was stupid to spend the money. Don't know....but my friends are amazed at what I have accomplished and so am I. I have walked 2 5 k's and I have had total knee replacement as well as arthritis in my feet/toes. Water aerobics is my exercise of choice though! Good luck to the newbies. You can do this if you want it...not anyone else.

Focus needs to change, my head is screwed up!
carstanger replied to kim2002's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can do this but just take one day at a time....even 1 hour at a time if need be. Went 8 months without bread, pasta, desserts...It is harder when you can have some... Still trying to lose the last 7 pounds but I will do it. -
Hi! I'm from Jackson, but was sleeved in Muskegon. My daughter lives in North Muskegon with her family and was sleeved by the same doctor.

I'm 66 and have baby fine hair. Have lost some, taking biotin twice a day, and my hair dresser showed me what is growing back. Actually wearing my hair longer now....for me. 11 months out and 88 pounds down. Now I can cover the hearing aides I got about 6 weeks ago.

surgery delay:(
carstanger replied to Lorraine22383's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep us posted as I know this is a disappointment right now. Hope you get good news next week! -
Lucky you!! I'm almost 11 months out and still have problems with foods some times like today. But....I'm eating more "regular" foods with my protein.
-
Hang in there! Is this your first surgery?? The first week is really hard and I wondered what I had done. I'm 66 and now love that I did this and wish it was available when I was younger!!! It does get better! Remember, you had surgery, and it's always hard at the beginning.

Are there any good Dvd out there for over 60?
carstanger replied to Carole Flower's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I'm 66 and was 65 when I had the sleeve. I tried a Spark People DVD when I first started exercising and couldn't do even the first part then. Haven't tried any since as I do water aerobics mainly, and try to walk as much as I can. Sorry I can't be more help! -
Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under
carstanger replied to ladymacwhiz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't posted in awhile on this forum. I am 5 ft 2 inches and I was sleeved Nov. 12, 2012. My highest weight before surgery was 225.5. I'm proud to say that I am now 139.4 and the goal weight the doctor set was 130. I'm 66 years old now, have walked two 5 ks. First time ever! I had total knee replacement 2 years ago so can't run the races but finished the last one in an hour. (Color Run) The weight loss has been steady, but I hang around at a weight for a couple of weeks and then will drop about 1/2 pound. I started out 2x or 22/24 and just bought size 12 pants, and size 14 jeans. I was lucky and never had stretch marks with all the weight I gained and my two pregnancies. I have flab but it is not as bad as I thought it would be and others don't notice it in my clothes. My husband of 43 years says I look so much better!! I am waiting to hear from the doctor if I can stay off my bi-pap which I've had for about 9 years, and am off all anti inflammatory, high blood pressure, and cholesterol meds. Still need a few meds and the bariatric fusion vitamins. My sister and brother don't acknowledge what I have done, but my friends and other family members do. You can do this for yourself only! -
Eggs were one of the things I had problems with....depending on the day. Hard boiled with mayo with olive oil was the best way for me to eat them. Not always sure what food though makes me sick as I eat more than one type at a meal.

What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
carstanger replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My final straw was planning an Alaskan trip a year and half ago, and all the excursions were what I could do!!! Signed up for a seminar for after the trip and then asked my husband to go with me!!! -
What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
carstanger replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My daughter took me to VS and had them fit me. Never could wear any of them!!! -
Will be waiting to see if it worked. Mine got thinner, but only my hair dresser and I really noticed. I take Biotin twice a day and see new hair growth. Also, I have mine longer now to go with my new slimmer look and since I just got hearing aides. LOL!
-
If I walk around and can burp, sometimes I'm ok! But I'm 10 months out and just got sick on beef stew. I actually feel better now and ate a little more to replace it. Hopefully, it will pass. My nose will start to run and I can hardly talk, and then I know that it is not staying down.

Hope you are doing well!!! Keep in touch!!

I was sleeved in November, 2012 and have lost 85 pounds. 10 more to goal. So happy I did this. Mine was in Muskegon with Dr. Gluck!! Awesome group and surgeon.

Cant stop crying!
carstanger replied to birdmadgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can do this! It is scary but well worth it. Follow the directions of the doctor and you nutricianist. I have mine in November and feel awesome. -
Getting off cpap?
carstanger replied to tigermom12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Saw the doctor the end of August. Am trying off the bipap, and will be tested to see if I'm getting enough oxygen. Waiting for my turn to use that machine at home and then the doctor will decide. I've lost 85 pounds, but he said weight alone is not the only factor. I have been on it since 2003 so I am really hoping!!!
