Friend jealous or unsupportive, or both?
Geminidrive replied to cookie2012's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The only way you will know is if you ask her. It seems to me every time someone doesn't acknowledge something we are doing there is an automatic assumption that jealousy is the motive, perhaps it's just indifference. When we put too much stock in what others think of our journey we give them too much power. Ask her or this will continue to annoy you. Good luck! -
. I did not, I don't know why but I haven't struggled much with this surgery at all, I just remembered the instructions given before the surgery to Sip, sip, sip, sip, having to wait was a tad bit annoying, but I found if I find something to do, set my timer and when it rings I can drink.
-
Write down your Surgeons name and number so they can contact him/her if needed.
-
Nope, chugging is now in your past and sipping is the present and the future.

Good for you......sometimes you will be surprised.

That would have been my opportunity to educate this person, tell them that haven't experienced it and they most likely will never understand unless they go through it. Take them to a seminar and let them see what we go through. I don't tolerate negativity and thankfully I haven't experienced it, I have had nothing but support. Sometimes we have to gather up that courage defend our decisions and stand proud for making those decisions. If anyone were to try to dissuade prior to the surgery I would tell them have you seen what obesity does to people.......it kills you. Obese people have an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Educate them!

Step outside the box and start loving yourself, this is first and foremost! I have never been insecure and have always been comfortable in my skin no matter what size. I have in the past mentored young adults and this is a book that I suggested they read. If you are interested, here it is: http://www.amazon.com/Self-Compassion-Beating-Yourself-Insecurity-Behind/dp/0061733512/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1359124002&sr=1-2&keywords=insecurities You will do well at the wedding, have fun!

I drink water 30 minutes before I eat and 30 minutes after I eat.
-
Absolutely, I go out to eat, it just requires more preparation. *Drink Water on the way to the restaurant to make sure I get in my water before the meal * Check out the menu before I visit the restaurant to make a healthy choice *Less is more, less food to eat more time to engage with friends/family *Food is still good, just less and healthier choices

I was not required to do a pre-op diet. FYI, I had no pain, no gas, no complications post surgery.

Sleeve complications!

Have you considered consulting with another surgeon? -
Sleeve complications!
Geminidrive replied to Ms.Cali's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry you are experiencing this. I'm curious why they gave you Dilaudid unless they are combining it with an anti-nausea drug. The only suggestion I would make is to consult with another physician if possible. You may have to travel out of your area. I hope it gets better. -

Did you keep your surgery a secret?
Geminidrive replied to KanesMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We do need to educate people about the surgery. Perhaps it is easier for us to have the surgery, after all we are all having this because sometimes it is damn near impossible to lose the weight after trying other methods and darn it we need to tell the naysayers this. Sometimes a little courage goes a long way! Be Confident Be Strong Be Brave Be Bold Take Action -
Thanks for sharing!

Did you keep your surgery a secret?
Geminidrive replied to KanesMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told everyone. Why not, it's not a secret. People need to be educated, so If I can educate one person then I'm happy. I have received such a positive response. Co-workers sent me cookbooks, exercise sites, gifted personal trainer consultation and continue to encourage me. I must admit that I'm not the type that leans on anyone for support or need a cheerleader, I typically fly solo, but it's nice to know that others are care. -
Two days, it could be the lingering effects of the anesthesia.

Slow and Steady not my style
Geminidrive replied to gingerRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Perfect case and point for you to go back to him for specific explanation and clarification. If you don't understand or like what your surgeon advises question him/her, don't let them blow you off or dismiss you. I would wait for a response from your Nutritonist and follow up with a call to your physician for greater clarity. -
Cost sanity check
Geminidrive replied to SoCalDixieGal's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
The cost of VSG surgery and associated costs are far less than those medical costs associated with obesity, in my opinion it is a small price to pay. Other ways to save money: * Sell old clothing and shoes on Ebay * Plan a garage sale to sell old clothing * Hire a seamstress/tailor to make alterations on older clothing * Donate old clothing to a charity, quite a few will come to your home to pickup and will provide you with a tax receipt. -
