You can say that again. It may not be immediate, but the long term affects will do you in.

I was wondering about that and body lift scarring also, I was looking at plastic surgery sites and everyone had scars. I'm too old to think about a tattoo to cover the scars. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Any thought on sparkling water
Geminidrive replied to ntaschner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it has carbonation, I would avoid it. -
My trainer is so encouraging, he sends us all motivating messages, here is the message he sent today: "Struggling with being consistent with your workouts...Lost 2 lbs last week, and gained 3lbs back this week...Mental is a little shaken, not stirred..."It's Alright"...Even on our knees we have the ability to stand up once again on our feet and...Keep Moving Forward. If no one said that they care today...I do! Now Go Get Back in the GAME!" Love him!!!

In the hospital. Pain management issue.
Geminidrive replied to Lyrakl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't need any pain medications at all and I don't think that is as a result of a high pain threshold....I'm a punk for pain. I think each one of our cases is different, I would suggest that you make it clear that the medication makes you sick and to please prescribe an alternative pain drug. -
Like 4Myboys mentioned above, if you don't get emotionally attached continue to date him if this is what you want, but let him know that you will be dating others as well. If you get easily attached, I don't think dating him would be wise. First and foremost, focus on yourself and everything else will fall into place.

I had to do the shots also. Do you alternate the location of your daily shots?

Crazy Hair Loss! HELP!
Geminidrive replied to Nurse Claudia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I posted this on other threads: info from my dermatologist yesterday: My dermatologist explained that the type of hair loss we are experiencing is called telogen effluvium and is more due to recent shock to your system, ie., weight loss, pain, recent surgery, over or under active thyroid, childbirth, medications and other underlying conditions not just lack of Protein. The dermatologist mentioned that one could lose over 50% of your hair, but that it will grow back in 5-8 months. She suggested using minoxidil, which will stimulate the growth of new hair faster. The less expensive brands are: (both 2%) * Equate which can be purchased at Walmart http://www.walmart.c...e&cat_id=976760 * Kirkland Minoxidil which can be purchased at costco. Important instructions on use: It is important that if you do use the minoxidil, it is to be placed on your scalp, do not rub it into your hair, it will just make your hair more brittle and susceptible to breakage. Do not let it drip onto your forehead as it will cause headaches. The best application is laying back preferably into a shampoo sink. http://www.webmd.com...loss/effluviums http://www.aocd.org/..._effluvium.html -
Sometimes you just have to set some ground rules and let them know that this is your decision and it's not up for discussion or debate. I wish you well.

If you have any Obesity related diseases I would outline the pros of having the surgery versus suffering with Diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, etc. Put it on paper, send them a letter. Good luck!

Over 400Lbs Gastric Sleeve Success Story
Geminidrive replied to jasminem89's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the surgery on 10/8, I was 398 today I am 328, down 70lbs and counting. I have not had any problems thus far, it has been a breeze, no pain, no gas, no mood changes. I hope to continue to work toward my goal weight. I would suggest that you carefully compare Sleeve vs. Bypass. Good Luck! -

New study on exercise and depression in bariatric surgery patients
Geminidrive replied to Richard Foor's topic in Fitness & Exercise
The FITBIT and Myfitnesspal really work! I wear the fitbit religiously now. My colleague that sits in the office next to mine has motivated me, she works vigorously out every day and when I see her logs it makes me get off my but and work out. -
List of Items Needed, POST OP for Success!?

Don't forget Iron. I also invested in a new digital scale. A heating pad or heated throw is also a good thing to have, you might get cold. -
Pre Surgery Bowel Prep Blues
Geminidrive replied to Lexsan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It won't be too bad. I had the miralax and Gatorade for my colonoscopy...oy. For the sleeve it was clear liquids and magnesium citrate which was much better. Oh, I also used a lot of Vaseline on the bottom to avoid elimination burn....if you know what I mean. -

Geminidrive replied to Richard Foor's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Great information. I also feel for me it was important to clear my mind of any potential obstacles prior to the surgery. Preparation and knowledge are power. -
Let me know how your first session goes. I know I'll need an Epsom salt bath afterwards. Much success to you also!

Good for you! I'm starting back with my Trainer on Friday's and Sunday’s this week and like you I’m excited. It's going to be tough at the start (My guy loves to push you to the limit) but it will be worth it in the end. Your trainer may also be able to help you on nutrition. Also, I don't know what health insurance you have but my insurance offers an additional program (at no additional cost) to speak with a Nurse, nutritionist and other health care professionals to work with you on all of your health care needs. This might be something your plan may have as well.

Congrats and good luck.

does protein intake the first 2 weeks affect hair loss later on?
Geminidrive replied to TES's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I got this info from my surgeon, but after visiting my dermatologist, she said the hair loss is due to the weight loss shock to the system. I should preface that the hair loss does not happen to all and that you SHOULD make sure you get your daily protein in. -
The defining moment you knew
Geminidrive replied to michelle4873's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Probably after my father died, he was a diabetic for over 40 years and although he lived a long life, the last 6 months of his life were pure hell all due to diabetes. I'm not a diabetic and I didn't want to become one. Diabetes is such an insidious disease and if I could avoid It I needed to make some serious changes.
