    Sad sad realization.....

Sweetie, I really think you should tell at least one person. Think of you you would most trust not to judge you for making your decision to be sleeved. Like you, I had planned to tell no one but sort wound up having to tell my sister due to some family events that would be coming up. Although we really do not talk about it much, it is nice to know that there is at least one person who knows. And, God forbid, I had complications, she'd know to tell any doctors in case I was unable. You sound so sad. This is an adjustment for sure. I agree with what many people have said, once you really begin to noticed those pounds melting off and you start to notice a difference in how your clothes fit, I think (and hope) that you will feel better emotionally.

    Sad sad realization.....

Oh yes. How I can relate to you!! I have thought of how much I miss my best friend/worst enemy ... FOOD. I have missed those favorite food binges. Many times I'll think if how I'd love to eat a bunch of this and that like I used to do. Yes, it gave me a weird sense of joy and happiness. It just shows how emotionally connected I was to food and still am, really. Thank God for the opportunity to get sleeved to help me with this obsession. I guess FOOD really was my CRACK.
  3. I wasn't able to do that but everyone is different. Make that one cup of food really count ~~ make sure it is Protein.
  4. Par for the course, honey. It will get better. Right now, get in what you can and let those pounds come off. Your tummy will heal and you will eventually be able to eat more. Although it feels very strange, it is normal.
  5. Congrats on your decision! I see you are a Mexico sleever also. I was sleeved in Tijuana by Dr. Jamie Ponce. This board has been a wealth of information for me pre and post sleeve. Glad you are here. :)
  6. I felt the same exact way prior to surgery. And, yes, it's true that for a good little while there will be things you can not eat. Obviously, you will go through the liqiud only and puree foods only weeks just after surgery. During these times you will be able to eat VERY little. I'm talking little two-three spoonfuls and you can literally eat no more. I was concerned about getting all the Protein in needed during this time but, honestly, you just get in what you can. It's a very strange feeling but it is one to take advantage of because you will be dropping weight during this very restricted time. Gradually, you will be able to eat more and more as your new stomach heals. I do remember thinking, "Geeezz, will I ever be able to eat a real meal again?" and "Will I ever even be able to chug a big bottle of Water after a workout?' The answers to these questions are YES. I had my surgery on Nov 23rd so that makes me 3 1/2 months post op. I can eat waaaaaaay more now than I could but still tend to get full after a few bites. For example, I can only eat about 3 nice size bites of a Subway sandwich until I have to stop. Now, if I wanted to, I could wait till that food settled and the take some more bites (even if I wasn't hungry) but that would be defeating the purpose of the sleeve. This is where your behavior modification comes in handy. This is where you need to remember that your sleeve is a tool and you must make good choices, etc. There might be some foods that you will not might able to tolerated the way you did pre-sleeve. For example, I adore Pasta but it seems to make me feel as if I have rocks my stomach when I try to eat it now... even just a few bites. This may or may not go away. You mentioned coffee. I'm not sure about that as I have never been a coffee drinker. Hopefully, someone else on the board can address that. Your sleeve will, in fact, prevent you from overeating because you will feel pain if you overeat. And, yes, sometimes I long for a good old-fashioned favorite food binge but my sleeve makes this impossible. And that's part of what got me to being overweight to begin with. I have realized how I used food for emotional reasons. You will learn so much. It's good you are doing your research and preparing yourself emotionally for these changes that will occur.
  7. Hummm. I wonder if you contacted Trish and asked her, she might send you one...
  8. Should have read ... Trish... Not artist. Thanks iPad spell corrector.
  9. And in the goodie bag that artist prepares for you, you'll get a hilarious pink tshirt that reads, " I left my stomach in Tijuana." Really cute!
  10. Oh yes. I was sleeved by Dr. Ponce on Nov. 23, 2012. It was a great experience other than the gas pains! Trish was wonderful. She's a woman of great faith. My gas pains were exceptionally bad because I can't burp so the gas just wouldn't come out. At one point I was in tears and she prayed for me out loud it Spanish while rubbing my forehead to comfort me. I was so thankful for her compassion. There's also a female doctor at the hospital that you will see/ meet who was sleeved by Dr. Ponce. Can't remember her name. You will be in great hands!

Good Grief! You look fantastic but I have to ask... how on earth did you lose almost 100 pounds in only four months? I know I've read other similar posts but, man, my surgery was on Nov.23 (just a few days after yours) and I'm only down about 37 pounds. I know we all lose differently along with having different stats. I'm 47 years old, 5'9'' tall, and started at 250 pounds. Frustrating but I know it'll eventually come off. Congrats again on your wonderful accomplishment. Petra

    So depressed....denied

Congrats on your decision! It's such a wonderful option for those of us whose insurance won't cover wls or those like yourself who are denied. And this forum was soooooo helpful for me, especially the Mexico specific section. I was like you. I had my heart set on surgery at home and was looking into different doctors. I'm also a teacher and was told that my United HealthCare policy would be including wls surgery after this past year's open enrollment. When open enrollment time came and it wasn't included I was heartbroken. Alas, Mexico landed on my radar and everything has worked out just fine. I used dr. Ponce de leon and he was fabulous. His coordinator, Trish, is absolutely wonderful! Who are you thinking of going with?

    Please pray! I need it!

Yes, the gas pains are incredibly painful. At least for me they were because I was inable to burp any of it out. Also, it doesn't feel like your typical gas pain. Had I not been told by my doctor that it was gas, I would have just thought I had severe stomach & chest pains. It WILL get better but I think we all understand that it kind of suck those first couple of days. Praying for you to feel better soon.

Good for you! What doctor in Mexico are you using?

    So depressed....denied

When I found out my policy wouldn't cover WLS I decided to hike it to Mexico. Great experience. No regrets!
