Telling Your Boss Your Having Surgery..
slimagainsoon replied to MK1986's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HIPPA law protects everyone from having to disclose their medical history. Of course HR will know because they have to see the paperwork from your surgeon about time off. In my case, I told my boss I would be having surgery soon and would let him know the date as soon as I know. Each job have their policies. Our policy is to inform them at least two weeks before being out for surgery if possible. My boss asked what was I having surgery own. He is nosey like that. I just kindly replied, you know policies state I don't have to tell you why or what on, as long as I got a doctor note. He just laughed. He know I am a private person and regardless of what the medical reason is its nobody business. My coworkers talk to much and the boss does too. A very nice boss but young and just talk too much. I told two coworkers, one is interested in having it and another have a family member that had it. I have already started to lose weight and one coworker said , you have been exercising haven't you? I just smiled and said yes. She ask was I trying to lose weight and how much. I just said, not sure. Good luck on your decision and rember, you don't have to worry about mention it until next year since your plans for surgery is next year. -

I don't know what State you reside in. I have BCBS in NC state plan. It is covered. The sleeve just got covered. It was not always covered by BCBS. Howver, each state is different. I agree with the other post. Hopefully, you can be sleeved this year so you want have to worry whether they cover it or not. Praying that everything work out in your favor. Hello Fellow 40's Peeps. I Am New To Process.
slimagainsoon replied to Kathy's New Life's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello Kathy Welcome to the forum. It all depends on your surgeon and your insurance requirements. Each is different! I started my Journey in Sept and I have one Pretest to complete. ERD, the light down my throat is scheduled for 10/31. After that, then paperwork will be submitted to insurance company. I am hoping for end of Nov or beginning of Dec surgery date. Caseworker at surgeon office said timeframe should not be an issue. You will have a better idea once you have your first visit with surgeon and they inform you of the testing needed before surgery. I too stuggle with GERD and other health issues. Good luck!! -
Congrats!! I am so excited for you. I have not got my surgery date yet. I am hoping for end of Nov or beginning of Dec. Did your nutrition or surgeon tell you for your age that 145 would not look right? My nutritionist did. I weight 216 and after surgery my goal is between 140 and 145. She told me to be realist because I am not in my 20's and if I get sick it would take longer for me to recovery. The thing is I have not always been overweight. I started gaining weight in the last 15 years. Beginning of Sept, I weighted 226 and got down to 216 in 6 wks. Their goal for me is 160. I am just going to take one day at a time. Back in the day, I weighted 118 to 130. I know how I will look and feel lol!!!

Fmla (Medical Leave)
slimagainsoon replied to thewellkeptwoman's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Everyone is different. Some may go back to work 5 days or two months. You know what you can handle. Most jobs have FMLA. I have short term disability and vac, sick time. We are required to use our time up before utilizing FMLA. I am a State employee. I am also getting my gallbladder removed and hernia repaired. We have to put what day we want to return back to work. As long as you got the time to cover it, and have FMLA take as much time as you need. It doesnt matter who may think its too excessive. Everybody is different. You need time to get use to your new tummy and get adjusted to potty issues and gas lol. Good luck and keep us posted! LOL at screw unpaid time! I know that's right! -

"wls Is Not What God Intended..."
slimagainsoon replied to Susan 2.0's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello Susan, In my opinion your BF sounds like she is concerned for you. If she is your BF you most likely share the same values which is your belief in God. One of my BF, do not agree with me having the surgery either and we both believe in God. She only said this because she was concerned for me. Most people have not heard of the sleeve, so their opinion negatively is based on hearing about bad experiences with other WLS. I also feel that God is apart of this. God is apart of everything I do. I put God first and believe that God is not just past century as some may believe but also this century lol! Each mile stone on this journey I go thorough I share with my best friend. She knows that my mind is made up and she supports me on this. Just love your BF for who she is and respect her opinion and know that she loves you but is concerned. I also believe that God gave doctors Wisdom to achieve the many types of surgeries. What God has for You is for you!!!! In other words, the breast plant or whatever other surgeries people chose thats their choice. You made the choice to become healthy so do it and know that God is with you and your best friend will be there for you too. Thats why she is your BF. May God continue to bless you!!! Wishing you the best! -

slimagainsoon replied to taralynneRN59's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am sure you are disappointed because you couldnt have it done on the date you had planned. Time flies and before you know it you will be getting your sleeve. Yes, I agree we plan and God laughs! Even in His Word He says" My Plans are not your orginal Plans!" God knows best for us and in this situation, it may seen like a setback and its only to ensure you are healthy to endure this major surgery. Good luck and rember " Good things come to those who wait". -
Stair Climbing Question
slimagainsoon replied to moregoodtimes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was wondering the same thing. Not about the stairs to bedroom. My bed is high so I am thinking of buying a recliner because It may hurt when getting up. Hope others who have had the surgery reply I heard that the pain is less then a C-section. I had one and that is good to hear but it was 21 years ago lol!!! Good luck..
