  1. I'm slightly guilty! I'm terrible about chewing most of the time because... FOOD. Seriously. So I try to smoosh up my meat or whatever it is I'm eating so that I'm not tempted to just rip chunks of it off or anything. I've eaten too fast a few times and it's a bit uncomfortable. Sliming is icky.

One Week And Two Days Out And I've Lost....

Week 3 stall is totally normal, unfortunately. It's not related to pureed food. How long it lasts is different for everyone, but it seems to be at least a couple weeks while your body adjusts. Just keep sticking to your diet and rather than weighing, you may want to take body measurments because even though you're not losing weight, you're losing inches

    What Am I Doing Wrong?

This site is supposed to be sleeve only, so I figured everyone was sleeved. I don't think you're doing anything wrong as long as you're sticking to what your doctor told you to do! Everyone recovers at a different rate, every surgeon has a different idea of what to do after surgery (though it seems most guidelines are similar!). I was eating some things earlier than I was supposed to just because I wouldn't have gotten my Protein in any other way, (especially fish and eggs). I found that the more "solid" something is, the less I can eat of it before I reach being full. I could drink a cup of broth, but maybe a half a cup of yogurt (ha! I wish). Then maybe just a couple ounces of tuna. The more liquid something is, the faster it's going to go through the stomach, which is why we're not supposed to drink before or after we eat.

One Week And Two Days Out And I've Lost....

I've not tried them, but I believe there are some savory flavor protein soups. I believe Unjury makes a chicken soup one, which might help!

    Why Lie?!?!

There's still so much fat stigma out there, and even though WLS is just one tool to help with weight loss, there's a huge stigma about that, too! After all, you "cheated" to lose the weight when all you should REALLY need is "diet and exercise" (cue eye rolling here). Personally, I've been very open with the people that I know that I see on a daily basis. After all, it's pretty obvious when I'm gone for two weeks and return not eating. My coworkers have been super supportive and amazing about the whole things. On the other hand, I have lots of people that I know say, online, and I've not given them specifics. All they know is I had "gastrointestinal" surgery. Why? I don't want to have to go through the whole thing multiple times and I don't want to deal with the fact that even if you're losing weight, fat stigma still exists.
  6. If it's something I really, really want? I'll try it within reason. Like when we had our Thanksgiving potluck at work, I had a 1" square of pumpkin pie and it was delicious My new rule is just to really carefully moderate anything. Take a bite and chew it until it's pasty and then I'm good to go.

    What Am I Doing Wrong?

Yeah, it's not uncommon to find that the body has changed. I have terrible trouble with cold things. They make me feel very nauseated very quickly, which is bad because I love milk Everyone seems to react to being sleeved differently in terms of what we can tolerate now. Above all else just listen to your body. Try a little something and if it doesn't work, try something else. I've got a nice list of about 5-7 high protein foods that have never given me trouble and if it weren't for those? I'd probably starve Well, more than I am, medically speaking.

    Help...dont Eat

Have you tried shakes or other clear protein drinks? I personally have trouble tolerating them but a lot of people don't seem to. There's also the unflavored protein powder that you can mix in liquids. No idea if you're a fan of tuna or not, but I really like the Sunkist Sweet & Spicy tuna with about a teaspoon of mayo in it. It's got like 100 calories and 19 grams of protein, IIRC.

    What Are You Eating Tomorrow?

I'm making it super easy by staying home by myself All my family lives hours away and because of surgery physically and financially it's not a good idea to undertake a major trip right now. I figure I'll spoil myself by getting some deli turkey and maybe make some carb friendly pumpkin pie or something.
  10. Judging from what I've seen here, a week 3 stall is pretty common. After all, most of us are living on super low calories now. Haven't bothered to ask because I'm doing everything right nutritionally and I really can't complain about losing 50 pounds in about 6 weeks. There are a lot of reasons to stall or plateau and while I'll grumble and I hate them royally, I know it's just a part of losing a lot of weight really quickly.

    Bp Already Down!

Mine's down considerably, too. Prior to surgery I was at about 140/90 medicated. At my 1 week I was 120/80. Three weeks out I'm 110/70, still on meds. They think I'll be able to stop soon. I'm really looking forward to it.
  12. I did not have an issue with my PCP. In fact, I kept him out of the loop until having him sign off on it was the last thing I needed. That's because he kept harping on me about weight without actually listening or even trying to find out what weight loss things I had tried that didn't work. For him it was "I'm your doctor so I have to tell you to lose weight." One day I snapped and told him while I appreciated the sentiment that he didn't seem to understand what weight loss struggles were like, so that weight loss was something he was no longer allowed to discuss with me. Needless to say when I went to get the paperwork signed, he didn't give me any trouble
  13. Mine lasted about 2 weeks. Then I was down about another 4 pounds, but this morning I was the same weight as yesterday. I have a LOT of trouble getting in more than 600-700 calories though, which doesn't help.

    Sugar Substitute And Aspartame?

This is my favorite sugar substitute: EZ Sweetz It's basically liquid sucralose. Like nearly straight liquid sucralose. It's stronger than anything you're going to get at the grocery store. One drop is as sweet as a teaspoon of sugar and because it's liquid? Zero carbs. So while you'll get about 1g of carb per packet with stuff like splenda, nutrasweet, etc, you get nothing with this and it really does taste just like sugar. While the 3 pack is pretty expensive it lasts forever. I've had it for about 2 months and I've not even used up one bottle and I use it in tea, in shakes, in yogurt... Best stuff ever.

    Sleeved 11/7, Question?

If you can tolerate it, don't forget to use unflavored protein powder. I swear I lived off hot cocoa with Nectar unflavored powder for my first two weeks.

To Count Or Not To Count

Hehe, I can tell you exactly what I ate and how much I ate on every day since I've started tracking. Basically I eat a lot of fish (salmon, tuna), dairy (cheese and greek yogurt), and the very rare shake. That's it. I have trouble eating a lot, so once I get my protein in, I usually quit eating for the day.

To Count Or Not To Count

I try to count everything I put in my mouth, but I'm super neurotic now that I've had my surgery done. I'm about 4 weeks out and I'm getting between 550 and 700 calories a day. On average, I'm eating about 25g of carbs a day. Fat is a little bit lower than that.
  19. I am so right there with you with the Bariatric Advantage vitamins! They're TERRIBLE. I've thought about cutting them up in to 1/4 pieces and just taking them like pills so I don't have to taste it. What's worse, at my 1 month follow up today I asked them to try the other flavor (I've got orange) and it was just as bad! They make me nauseated every time I put one in my mouth and half the time I've got to go spit them out. I'd try something else but my surgeon's office harps on how you need a Vitamin that disolves easily. I'd settle for one that isn't NASTY. For the B12, I'd totally reccomend the Bariatric Advantage B12 subliinguals in Black Cherry. They just sit under the tongue and they don't taste gross in the least. Really, they just taste like candy
  20. I did the same thing before I had to start my diet. I knew that there were things I wouldn't be able to eat for a long, long time and I wanted to get all of my panicked feelings of deprivation out of the way so every day I'd pick a different food that I wouldn't be having after surgery. My favorite was sushi day >
  21. I don't know about revisions, but yes, vertical sleeve and gastric sleeve is the same. The procedure is called vertical gastric sleeve.

    How Much Soup?

My experience was that if it was thin liquid, I can pretty much "eat" as much of it as I want. I'm assuming this is because it more or less just goes through my stomach. When the consistancy of what I'm eating approaches solid, my tolerance for how much I can have goes down. It takes me at least a half hour to eat 2 oz. of steamed salmon and I'm like... FULL.
  23. I think I still have plenty of padding, because I'm just not cold at all
  24. So I'm about a month out from surgery and I went out shopping, bought some new pants, which I've been wearing around the house. I sat down for a while and then stood up and now I've got a terrible pain in my right side. It's fine when I'm laying down, not so bad if I'm sitting up and not moving, but standing up and moving around feels like I've got a knife in my side. Not overly concerned but I'm wondering if this is common.
  25. Whew, note to self. 2oz of grilled chicken is way more than enough.
