  1. Yeah, but I've done that since puberty. I was wearing them post-op with no issues at all. It's only been in the last few days that it's felt strange.
  2. I dunno, in my head it's different than getting sick because it doesn't seem to be accompanied by nausea, really. It's just like my body says "Hey stupid, we can't hold that much down here. Try again later." and up it comes.
  3. When you eat too much too fast and the body tells you that you can have it back. It's gross
  4. I love the wasabi/soy sauce 100 calorie almond packets. They're tasty when I want a treat.

    Looking For A Scale

I have the same scale and I've noticed it's very wonky. The ballpark weights are right, I think, for the most part. But I've noticed sometimes it will "stick" on the last weight recorded and give that as the first weight the next day. I weigh myself 2-3 times with it just to make sure. Oh well, as long as the numbers keep going down, that's all I care about

    Preop Diet Started!

I loved the Extra "desserts" flavored gum when I was on my two week pre-op. The apple pie flavored one especially!

    Liquid Diet?

I got Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacement shakes (lots o' Vitamins and protein) along with frozen fruit for smoothies, flavoring for the shakes like alcohol based candy flavorings, DaVinci and Archer Farms sugar free syrups, and since I was allowed broccoli, fresh florets to steam for a snack. I would not get a sherbert based smoothie, personally. It's going to be high carb content with all that sugar, even if you put Protein powder in it, that's not going to make it good for you. I was told to limit my carbs per serving/meal to less than 19, but that's just my surgeon. Follow what yours says to do. Remember, the liquid diet is difficult, but so is eating tiny portions and basing everything around Protein first for the rest of your life. Going back to what we used to do will only get us where we used to be. Instead, find ways to make the stuff you eat taste good. One of the shakes I liked the most was a pina colada one. 1 serving of vanilla shake powder, 1/2 c large pineapple chunks (in Water, drained), a little coconut flavoring, and ice cubes. Add splenda to taste if it's not sweet enough. Blend with water until smooth and there you go!

    Lack Of Home Support

Without knowing her, I'm wondering how much your desire for and attention to succeeding is (consciously or not) reminding her of the fact that she's tried and failed to lose weight? I wouldn't say the lack of support and semi-sabotage attempts are conscious or even deliberate but I would guess that it's probably a factor in the behavior you're seeing. As we've all been there and done that in regards to weight loss, we know that every failed diet leaves us feeling worse than before. She did the more drastic surgery and it didn't work. Should she be supporting you? Yes, 100% she should. But we're only human, and if you succeed, it's only going to remind her that she failed.

    Help With Protein

This is the place I've found that sells the large bags of Bariatric Advantage for the least amount of money: http://store.carbessentials.net/ The catch is that they only sell vanilla and chocolate, but those are the ones I usually buy since they're good base flavors. If you order at least $75, shipping is free. They also sell the Calcium citrate chews and Vitamins as well, but the BA vitamins are vile.

    Help With Protein

I checked my bag of Chocolate Bariatric Advantage and the allergy warning says "Contains: Milk and Soy. No Gluten Containing Ingredients." So nothing about nuts on the warning at all.

    This Gets Better, Right?!

I got advice from my surgeon. He said that some people are ready to get back to work in as little as a week. Personally, I took 2 weeks and then another week or two with some short days to re-adjust because I had some nasty nausea issues.

I could see 4-6 weeks when surgery was performed non-laproscopically. I mean at that point they literally had to cut you open and all. Now that it's minimally invasive (I have 6 scars ranging from 1/4" to 1" long) the recovery time is much faster than it was years ago.

    Week One Loss

Your first week is about losing all the water weight you put on from surgery in the first place

    30 Days Out

Sure! The easiest way to determine how much protein is in something is to look at the nutritional facts. It should tell you, per serving, how much protein a food/drink has. For example, my Bariatric Advantage shakes have 27 grams of protein per serving. My string cheese has 7g per stick. The yogurt I eat has 11. There are a lot of websites out there that will help you track what is in the food you eat, nutritionally speaking. I recommend that. If it's a food and you're not sure how much protein is in it, try googling "(item) nutrition facts" and it should bring up some websites that have the information you want.

If you got in 40oz of water and 20oz of Isopure (clear liquid) then you've had 60 oz of liquid. Just because the liquid has protein in it doesn't make it not liquid

    30 Days Out

Total opposite of mine. I've read other people, though, who said they were getting "real" food immediately after surgery while still in the hospital. There is no single unified theory of what to do after VSG, but there's no way that protein drinks are harmful. For a lot of us, protein supplements are the ONLY way we're going to meet that 70 grams a day.

    Two Week Check Up

At my follow up they just asked me how I was feeling, weighed me, checked my scars and vitals and sent me home. At my 4 week they did a full array of blood work to make sure I'm not having any issues there.

Take it easy. The first week or so is the worst. Concentrate on just getting in your fluids and as much protein as possible. Keep doing your walking, and remember that rest is a GOOD thing. You've just had major surgery and the body will take a while to recover.
  19. Sounds like nasty heartburn. I know when I did my previous low carb dieting that the instant I went off plan, my body just revolted. Even something as simple as eating apple slices left me lightheaded and shaky because of all the sugars. The body gets used to not eating junk so when you give it something it's not used to, it's going to respond appropriately.
  20. I loooooove DaVinci syrups. Target's Archer Farms brand also has syrups and has a pumpkin spice one for the holidays that is nommy. Another good thing to get are the candy flavorings (alcohol based). The flavor is really intense with those and you can get stuff like coconut, banana nut, peanut butter and all sorts of off the wall stuff.

    Working Out

Mine is restricted to no more than 25 pounds the first 6 weeks. Not that lifting heavy things has ever been something I aspired to.

    Anyone Considered Baby Food ?

I bought some. Tried it. Hated it. That stuff is vile. I figure better to just puree whatever's in the baby food that you want and eat it. Tastes less foul.

    Protein Hot Chocolate

I use Swiss Miss Diet variety hot chocolate. It's got 4g of carbs, 2 of which are sugars. I do watch the temperature, though I've never had an issue with it even when I'm not able to gauge how hot the water is. I think pre-blending it in a little cold water really helps when you mix it in with the hot water. I'll usually either pull the plug on the kettle right before it boils or I'll let it sit for a couple minutes if it reaches boiling. It gets foamy on top, but the foam is chocolatey and worth eating.

    Lettuce!

For me, salad is a stage 6 food, so six weeks out. Every doctor says something different, though. Did you get a diet plan?

    Protein Hot Chocolate

Another way (and possibly cheaper) is to take sugar free hot chocolate (25 calories) and mix it with a scoop of unflavored Protein powder (40 calories). I hate Breakfast (!) and that's one of the things I can drink without feeling sick. I'd drink two packs worth with two scoops and it would be 130 calories and 20 grams of protein which is a good start to what I need for the day. I put the powders in the blender with just a little bit of Water to make sure they're not lumpy (another thing I can't stand) and pour the liquid in to hot water. It really is good
