I had a hysterectomy 6 months before my sleeve and am doing great. I'm 37 so to avoid menopause am taking 2mg of estrogen.

I vomited so much I thought I was dying! Seriously considered begging my surgeon to put my stomach back. But after the 4th day I felt like a new woman.

I'm 3 months out and was just thinking the same. It's a lot tougher than I thought it would be. I don't think you can ever be really prepared for all the changes. It really grinds on my nerves when someone insinuates i took the "easy" way out. An alcoholic and a smoker can have moments where they give into temptation. We cant this soon out even if we wanted to. Hang in there. It's going to be worth it.

Fitjen got a reaction from able2cope in Is Feeling Ravenous Normal?
I am 8 weeks out and am feeling the same. I asked my surgeron about it yesterday and he said it's different for everyone and not to worry as long as I maintain restriction. I hate It! I've noticed that it arrives on schedule right before meal time and I feel like I could eat a horse. It's frustrating because I am bursting full with less than 1/4 cup. I had hoped to be one of the lucky ones who have no hunger. I get all of my Water in, only eat Protein (over 60 gms/day), no snacking and am taking a PPI twice a day. Not sure what else to try.

I believe it is a reasonable thought. If you can get control of yourself, lose the weight, and keep it off you don't need the sleeve. I could not. I had to have the tool. Getting the sleeve did not get rid of my fat, eating less and eating good food did. I do have more to offer my family now.
Was it a crutch for me? Yes, indeed, I was broken and needed a crutch.
Am I ashamed? For what, being human?
No, I am proud of myself for taking decisive action and getting my health back.
Now I have a firm hold on myself, I am exercising and actually enjoying it! The positives granted by having this slim body have neutralized the emotional need that I had before that caused me to cram.
I no longer eat to escape life, I eat to empower life.

Now that is something I couldn't agree with more. It took me 6 months to lose 20 lbs pre-op (that I would have gained back without surgery) and 3 weeks to lose 27 post op. you made a great decision! Having had the band I'm sure you know what you're getting into. Best of luck. You're scheduled on my sons birthday.

Fitjen got a reaction from Geminidrive in Seeking Advise On Coworker Lunch This Week
It's sad that we all have reason to worry about the reactions from others regarding our decision for surgery. If we were diabetic we'd take insulin with no shame or Chemo and radiation for cancer. Obesity is a disease and it is my hope that someday the rest of the world will catch on and begin to understand. Those of us who've been sleeved know that this is not an easy way out or a magic wand solution. It is a tool to assist us in becoming well.

Fitjen got a reaction from Earwood in Marriage Issues Already!?
I was diagnosed as BRCA (+) exactly one year ago. Before I could schedule my double mastectomies they recommended bariatric surgery to reduce estrogen stored in my fat and to reduce complications.
2 months later my husband of 18 years left. He said that if I went through with the bariatric surgery he'd lose all respect for me. Needless to say I've come to realize he was dealing with insecurities of his own and was threatened by this surgery. We have talked extensively about it since our divorce and he has said that everything about me will be different.
While I'll look different on the outside I'm still me. Men can be so stupid sometimes. Unfortunately in this situation by the time he figures it out it'll be too late. I can't imagine ever going back to someone who bailed the moment I was faced with this challenge.
Although it has made realize that I am stronger than I ever knew. I can do this!
So can you. This too shall pass. It's just a bump in the road of life. He'll come around.

Fitjen reacted to Nick'sMom in Muscle Milk?
Before surgery I bought a bunch of different type of Protein drinks/shakes to try out. I personally can't stand the taste of any of the Muscle Milks. To me there's a funny after taste I can't get past. My dr. had us drink the Bariatric Advantage shakes for preop and those are good and you can blend them with fruit or Peanut Butter. Now post op I drink the Premier Protein drinks in chocolate flavor. It's 11 oz and has 30 grams of protein, 160 calories and 5 carbs. costco carries it in chocolate or vanilla flavor.

I was sleeved on the 3rd and am allowed a 1/4 cup three times a day (after its been through the blender). I'm struggling to finish that if its anything but Greek yogurt. Was really excited to try eggs today only to discover I couldn't eat more than two bites. Kind of depressing when food was such a big part of my life before. I know it'll be worth it but its not easy!
