I don't see too many threads praising those who cheat. I've seen confessions and advice on how to overcome these challenges. It's a reality of this journey. At some point we're going to give in to temptation. We are all human. "Newbies" (gaw, I hate that word) are new to the sleeve, not children. Most are adults and hopefully not completely unable to make their own decisions. I think people either take this way too serious or not serious enough. For me, life still goes on and I'm choosing to enjoy this process rather than make it stressful.

I don't measure anything but here's how I make it: Make the quinoa with garlic powder, thyme, smoked paprika, and oregano I had left over grilled onions and asparagus chopped it up. Diced raw red onion, cucumber, cherry tomatoes and add it all to the cooked quinoa. Drizzle it with olive oil and champagne vinegar and put it in the fridge until cold. So delicious! It'd probably be good with chopped cilantro or parsley too.

What do you order at restaurants after weight loss surgery?
Nicolanz replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I rarely eat out so when I do, I order whatever I want! -
UGGGGGHHHHHH I am STUCK!
Nicolanz replied to kortolano's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chicken breast and pork roast is really hard for me to digest too. It's painful! If I read correctly, you've lost 10 pounds in two months? That seems pretty normal for someone 8 months out. -
Just putting it out there, so 'dirty' little secrets may see the light of day!
Nicolanz replied to Madam Reverie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This months shark week I've been really bad!!!! I've lost 5 pounds this week though! A whole bag of peanut M&Ms in one sitting A whole Red Robin burger in 4 sittings....one day Wine I drink a sf Rockstar every day I drink from straws always from day 1 -
Well maybe knickers wouldn't be wadded if you hadn't made this woman out to be a complete jack ass for buying yogurt with a half serving of M&Ms attached. I'm headed to the grocery store now. I hope no one judges me for placing a box of Teddy Grahams in my cart full of meat and produce lol.

I know lots of people who aren't lazy and buy treats, knowing they are not particularly healthy. I'm one of them. I'd like to think I'm somewhat intelligent. But I do agree that a lot of junk food is disguised as "healthy."

Sorry nothing to do with the sleeve just have to let someone know!

Can a relationship really work out if....
Nicolanz replied to soonerorlater's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will work if you want it to. My skinny husband married me at 300 pounds. He never asked me to change and I'll never ask him. He eats what he wants and sometimes I'll even make him a different dinner than what I make for myself. He didn't conform to my lifestyle changes and I didn't expect him to. He's an adult who can make his own decisions. -
I know most people or carb crazy but will I ever be able to eat a sandwich again?
Nicolanz replied to endless80's topic in Food and Nutrition
I've been here a while ....there are lots of carb nazis! I'm 11 months out down 103 pounds and don't count carbs. I eat a half a sandwich several times a week. -

Where do I stop...goal weight related....
Nicolanz replied to lilbearzmom's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
According to my kinesiology book....lol......if you know your body fat percentage ....... Multiply your weight with your percent body fat giving you your total fat weight. Then body weight minus fat weight equals your lean mass in pounds. Lean mass divided by (1-ideal fat percentage) equals ideal weight. I'll use mine as an example 198 X .35=69.3 198-69.3=128.7 128.7 / (1-.13)= 148 Which I think is too skinny for me but it's another way of calculating "ideal body weight" -
I'm not convinced that exercise does much for loose skin!!! My legs and lower abdomen are horrible!

If you still struggle afterwards, why do it?
Nicolanz replied to Healthygal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got the sleeve for all the same reasons listed above, but also this was my chance at a fresh start. A redo. Forced portion control. It doesn't come without struggle though. I didn't have the surgery to eat like I used to. I've studied nutrition and prepared myself to make life changes. Sure, I have days or even weeks where I fall back into old habits but now it's easier for me to get back on track. Instead of gaining all the weight back, I may gain 2-3 pounds, get back on track, a continue on with my weight loss. I think those who gain the weight back have given up completely. Your outcome is still up to you but the sleeve helps tremendously! Good luck on your journey. -

420 and gastric sleeve
Nicolanz replied to AbsoluteEnvy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I recently quit smoking cigarettes after someone told me that once you damage the aveoli in your lungs, they never repair themselves. Imagine trying to breath out of a coffee straw for the rest of your life. Of course, I already knew that, but the visual made me quit after 15 years of being a heavy smoker. Yikes! Anyway, that's all I have to contribute lol. -
I can't believe I'm doing this and the reason my before photo is so horrible is because honestly I don't have many before photos. The first picture is of me five years ago soon after I had my son. I believe I was around 310 pounds. You can see my poor husband can barely put his arm around me. I sure do love that man. He's always loved me unconditionally. The second photo is of me today trying on dresses at Kohl's. I really loved this dress and should have bought it, but I was looking for something specific and this dress was left in the dressing room by someone else trying on clothes. Today the scale read 203 pounds! That's 107 pounds down from my highest and 93 from when I had surgery 9 months ago! Happy Friday everyone!

How much do you save on food?
Nicolanz replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Groceries have stayed the same. Buying healthy food is not more expensive at my grocery store. But we never go out to eat anymore so we've saved about 300-400 dollars a month! -
I'm half and half. For the most part, I try to eat a balanced diet. I still will eat pizza, chips, ice cream, etc but don't make it an everyday thing. I've lost 100 pounds in 10 months without being obsessive about eating healthy. It's something I can do forever and with great results so far. I am active though. Not an exercise fanatic, but I park in the back of the parking lot, take the stairs, do a work out 3-4 times a week, etc.

How long will the scars be obvious?
Nicolanz replied to journeybegins05032013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm whiter than the whitest shade of white. I like to say translucent haha! I'm 10 months out and scars have faded to pink but still very noticeable. -
I wasn't either. I was 100% sure I was making the right decision!
