Surgery In 3 And A Half Weeks , Scared To Death
Bornagain commented on shabbychicprincess's blog entry in shabbychicprincess' Blog
So rude of him to scare you like that. Everyone is different and the pain really isn't too bad it mainly is the gas and not the surgery itself. I think he was being dramatic. My surgeon took almost 2 hours to do mine which is the norm. I hope you go through with it if it's for your health and you really want it cause one week of gassy pain is worth it. My dr. gave me a liquid pain killer which is real good. It's a liquid vicodin and it really helped. The best thing is walk walk walk -
Water and walking. If that doesn't work try milk of magnesia but I would only go half the dose. Also buy some stool softners and take two daily. This really helped me out.

Congratulations, glad to hear your doing good. It is sad to see that some people have horrible pain and throw up so it is nice to hear from someone who is doing good. I also did not have many problems.

Yes he has me on 30 gms of protein daily. Before the surgery I was on 100 grams of protein. I have been on Premier Nutrition High Protein Shakes for 4 1/2 weeks. Next Tuesday I can begin eating soft foods. I am wanting something to chew on finally. lol, can't very well chew on shakes and all this liquid. Although I am still grateful. I wanted to ask of others in the community, I really am not starving just bored with lack of choice, but I see others saying they are hungry. I was told they cut off the part of the stomach that makes you feel more hunger. Anyone ?

This Is My Story... And I'm Sticking To It :)

Thank you for your story. It is bittersweet, to lose your Mother is so sad but like slimagainsoon said it may have been God's way because now you are doing well and looking ahead to your healthy future. Sorry for your Loss. -
I am new to this site I recently joined and I was sleeved on Oct. 2, 2012. I have been looking for posts from people who have diabetes. This is the reason I finally did the surgery. My sugars were out of control and I couldn't keep them down. In July my a1c was 10.3. In Aug. I attended my first class and decided to sleeve. I jumped through all the hoops and by Oct. 2, my a1c was down to 7.5. It was tough getting there but my readings were still up and down. I am 8 days out and I am no longer on my pills. My surgeon told me to monitor my insulin use. If my b/s was good I was not to take my insulin. He told me if I had to take it to take only half my usual dose. Guess what? Yup I have only had to use insulin twice and very little cause I was not sure. It feels WONDERFUL not to be worried what my b/s will be, another thing is the Neuropothy pain in my left foot and leg is almost all gone. This surgery is a big change but I feel blessed that I was able to do it. I would love to keep hearing from other diabetics and their progress on this journey. I do have one question. I have lost 10 lbs in one week. Is this normal? He has me on clear liquids and 30 grams of protein shake.

Pretty much after I attended two classes to learn all about the different procedures the choice was up to us. If the surgeon thought we should pick another surgery they would advise us. I picked the sleeve because it was less invasive. Yes the rny has a higher percentage for diabetics but the sleeve was also up in the percentages.

I am diabetic and my b/s has been uncontrolled for years. I backed out of surgery two years ago because I thought I could work harder and control my blood sugars. Well I failed over and over. I was up and down, finally they had to up my meds and my insulin. My pancreas was working at 20 % so I decided to do it rather than let my illness totally destroy my organs. I sleeved on October 2, 2012. I stayed in the hospital for two days and so far aside from the usual gas pain everything is going good. My sugars are dropping daily. In the morning I wake up and they are below 120. I am really going to stay focused and am so grateful I did not have complications.
