I swear my 2 week pre-op diet helped me the most, It was mostly liquids...I get cravings sometimes, especially when my roommate brings food home, but you have to have will power and tell yourself "you can do it!"

Does Vsg=Lactose Intolerance?
MiniMo replied to BigChrisATX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont have problems with dairy products, just ready made protien shakes with milk products in them (especially adkins advantage ). I use skim milk in my powder shakes and food with no problems. But before surgery I had issues with milk and ice cream (especially sugar free ice cream containing sugar alcohol). Weird.... -
My surgery was October 1st too!! I go for a walk around the neighborhood about twice a week, about thirty mins or so... I was told 30 days after surgery I can begin light exercise. I am not back at work yet so I try and keep my self busy and NOT laid up in the bed all day. I cook, clean, and I try to move around as much as I can. I do get a little light headed when I over do it, but it seems to pass easily. I start soft foods on Monday , so I have been planning my meals out and doing some research on foods I will be able to eat and looking up recipes (I hate store bought or procesed foods, especially soup, I've had enough, lol). Just trying to not get in the habit of laying around, doing nothing...

I agree, Go for it! If its a miss, oh well, but you can say you did it! You will probably gain a ton of confidence.

Being overweight is nothing to be ashamed of, it happens, and sometimes its out of your control. My mother always told me to hold my head up high and demand respect no matter your size. I always make eye contact, smile, and show my thoughts and emotions on my face when I am in public.

Has Anyone Had To Have The 'stress Test' Before Surgery?
MiniMo replied to skinnywithin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had two stress tests before... They werent too bad, but not very fun at all. The first one, the nurse was very polite and stood by my side the whole time. Also in the room was a doctor and another nurse, just in case things didnt go accordingly. I was having chestpains and shortness of breath. On the second test (for my cardiac clearance), there was tech and she was ity bity, like 5'2 98lbs, all attitude, I was like anywho.... When you take your test they first, do a echogram or like a ultrasound of your heart and attach some monitors to your chest (you will be wearing a gown, but able to keep your pants and shoes on). There is a treadmil beside the bed. Beginning at walking pace, the nurse wil continuously increase the speed and incline. The highest I got to was a 4mph. I was struggling so the nurse said I only had to do 5 min (thank god!). After you run on the treadmil, you immediately hop back on the bed for your heart to be examined exactly like before. Then your all finished. You'll get a towel and some Water, and be on your way. -
What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
MiniMo replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Feeling older than what I am....I ididnt want to go into my thirties, unhealthy and depressed Being able to share clothes with my sister... Having children one day...fitting into a beautiful wedding gown... And I want to go skydiving on my 30th birthday, weight limit is 220 I basically decided 2012 was the year of change... -
Hello I had surgery October 1, 2012. February 1, 2012 is when I first saw the surgeon to get this ball rolling, literally, lol. I have spent so much time and effort into this life changing moment, that now, after its actually done, I am kind bored with it. That's probably weird to say, but its how I feel. I am not having any complications or pain, no regrets, and everyone is being supportive. But...the hype is over for me. I used to be excited about food, trying new foods, and experiencing new flavors (maybe that was my problem), but since being on a liquid diet for almost a month now, I am bored with it. Soup, broth, yogurt, Jello, and Protein shakes. Plus, the scale isnt moving and I am not too excited about jumping on. Its like, eh...whatever. Just like all the fad diets, I have done before. Maybe its because I have been a hermit since surgery, but I need some kind of motivation... How do I get out of this funk??

How Bad Is My Preop Cheat?
MiniMo replied to drexelgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wanted to cheat so much on my pre op diet (i did have a smoothie from jamba juice). What scared me the most, was in my pre op meeting, the dietician said that if i strayed from my diet, there would be a chance of not having the surgery. If the surgeon went in and things did not look right, he would sew me back up and not complete my sleeve. After all of the hoops i had to jump through, appointments, and diets for six months, I was not gonna let myself ruin my chances. Its an internal fight we all have to face. -
Has Anyone Cheated On There Phases?
MiniMo replied to Quianna Armstead's topic in Food and Nutrition
i had some crackers on my tenth day, I just needed something to nibble on. I ate one (slowly, swear that I chewed it 50 times) and put the rest in my broth. -
I made some wonderful baked potato soup yesterday, so easy... Potato, low fat cheese, skim milk, flour, butter, onion, salt, pepper, garlic, green onion, precooked bacon, greek yogurt Saute about 1/4 c of onion and 1 clove garlic in butter or olive oil, add 2t of flour Stir in 2 c milk, will thicken Add 1 small potato baked in microwave, chopped Add crumbled precooked bacon Blend to make smooth Return to pot, bring to simmer, add 1/2 c low fat cheddar I thinned mine out a little more by adding more skim milk Serve! Garnish with finely chopped green onion and dollip of greek yogurt

I had quite the opposite effect. During my pre-op diet and the first week after surgery, I was constipated. I did not have a bowel movement until ten days after my surgery. Almost went to the hospital, I was scared to strain myself too much. Called doctor's office, told me I could take milk of magnesium.

I know exactly how you feel! Just keep up the good work! This diet will prepare you for the weeks ahead.

Hello! I had my sleeve surgery October 1, 2012. I cant believe that my surgery came and went so fast. I had surgery because I was tired of feeling 10 years older than my true self, I am 27. Yes, I can say that my weight has held be back from being and becoming the person I want to be or invisioned myself as, but I have lived a good life. Starting at a young age, I always knew I was bigger than the rest of the kids. At age 9, I was 150lbs, 12 years old, pushing 200, by high school, I was over 250 and I graduated, over 300lbs. I dont blame my mother for all the delicious food she prepared over the years, I have a younger brother and sister, both are athletic and pretty normal, maybe its just genetics or my obsession with mac and cheese. I dont want the scale to rule the rest of my life...What I want to get out of this surgery is having a healthy, fullfilling life, where my looks dont control how I feel, inside or out. My goal is to get under 200lbs for now, maybe around the 170 to 180 range. I dont know how it feels to be under that weight, So when we get there, I'll see how it feels.
