The OnQ pump is amazing. My mom had to have hers removed early because it leaked and was in MUCH more pain than I was at the incision sites. Removal was no big deal either

Did anyone smoke after surgery?

Actually. I was a heroin addict and a smoker. Quitting smoking was practically effortless. It's totally different for everyone -
Did anyone smoke after surgery?

Allow me to clarify. I smoked Pre Op and ended up smoking a couple months post op to help with constipation, honestly. I got heartburn more than I did Pre Op, and it made me nauseous. Your choice. For me it wasn't worth it. I've been putting up my cigarette money for clothes and goal rewards -
What you wish you knew before the sleeve
lizv123 replied to Healthier2day1227's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There's a lot I knew but still wasn't prepared for. Like my leak. I knew it was a risk but I did everything by the book and it still happened. I figured I'd be ok as long as I followed every rule to a t. Never accounted for faulty staples. Also, immediately post op, I wish I knew my dad would have to come out and install handicap rails for my toilet! Didn't realize how low it was until I went to pee feeling like my guts would flop out of stomach, went to sit and yelped because I thought I was free falling -

A big deal for some that don't quit Pre op is an increase in smoking post op. Oral fixation replaces food. The nicotine hinders healing, the smoke itself can cause ulcers and since we have such a small tummy now, repairing an ulcer is VERY difficult. Most doctors won't operate on a smoker for the risks it causes during surgery. And this is an elective surgery, not an emergency surgery like they do in hospitals the majority of the time. -
I made creamy soups, blended, then strained it. Helped a lot with full liquids.

Can't lie... Thought this thread was about diapers XD Come to think of it, I haven't done a pull up since elementary school and the monkey bars! Good goal, OP!

I'll admit, I was curious too Thank you, OP for taking advice and being open to suggestion! Best of luck, love!

Why do people make this commitment, risk their lives on a surgery table and then...
lizv123 replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
I agree with this thread a billion times over. It gets under my skin!! Research is imperative for such a life changing surgery! And the risks! People started solids too early...yeesh...some of us did everything by the book and still had leaks! I fear the sleeve is becoming more of a cosmetic procedure in our society. -
I would think this would be more of a modification op. Possibly after the sleeve is fully healed? Maybe with trouble during maintenance? Honestly, this is the first time I've ever heard about them. They're interesting not that I would opt for it, the whole reason I opted out of the band was the thought of a foreign body and all the slip stories. I understand the concept though, and why some people may want to go that route. Let us know what you decide!

Regarding the nausea, have you tried compazine? It's an anti emetic but it's safer for a longer term. Or taking your pill with food? I'm sure you have. This isn't your first rodeo Is the nausea right after the pill starts breaking up in your stomach? Or all day? I know they advise against XR meds with the sleeve because of the damage to the stomach lining and it's inability to break down before it passes completely through our systems.

Ideas to increase water intake?

I'm randomly prescribed stimulants when my fibrofog gets out of control. Not much success for me but I had a lot of students on Strattera. Good luck! I also read the "inventor" of ADHD recently passed and on his deathbed stated "ADHD is a perfect example of a fictitious disease." I'm torn with this. I know it exists, working in special needs I've seen it! But it is very over diagnosed. Much like depression. You're tired? Here's some Prozac! I wish the mental health care here was better. I hope everyone can find a good, knowledgable, and reliable psychiatrist!

That was a big topic in one of my Pre op support groups. Some people have horrible raunchy gas and poo post op. Luckily, mine isn't that different in the odor department, but a lot of people have this problem. You're not alone!

I have endometriosis and had awful periods. Irregular and cramps that would leave me in the bed. I switched to an estrogen free pill, micronor, and haven't had a period in 135 days. I'm in heaven! It's 98% effective where most pills are 99%, but we're supposed to use a barrier method anyway for the first 18-24 months post so I went for it. Best decision I've made

Most surgeons do a nicotine test Pre op, or at least threaten it, and there is nicotine in the e-cigs. The smoke itself is dangerous for the sleeve, but nicotine hinders all healing.

Anyone else NOT have POST-OP drinking issues?
lizv123 replied to cinward2001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first few days after I was home from surgery I had NO problem with Water. Now, I can take bigger drinks but randomly I get some pains with plain water. Be happy! Easy fluids make for an easy recovery! Good luck and sip sip sip!
