Learn From My Mistake! Lost Money (Mexico Surgery--Quinones)
lizv123 replied to gettingback2me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't let the negative remarks get you down! Even with insurance I appreciate the heads up because I have a friend looking into WLS and she's a self pay. While I'm starting my journey I'm keeping her up to date with what I know and I absolutely would NOT want her to even risk an experience like this. So thank you! -
To me the sleeve I hope to get is a tool and a constant reminder to watch what I eat and to exercise. I've lost up to 90 lbs more than once with diets or health complications (severe concussion kept me from eating anything for 5 months) but it always came back because I could cheat. I need a permanent solution. What better way than a 4 oz stomach? I too am one nutritionist appointment away from the big OK and I find myself second guessing and my anxiety levels escalating. But I always come back to "it's a permanent solution to a lifelong problem and I'm only 25." Go with your gut on this. But I have arthritis as well as a boatload of other chronic pain illnesses and I know I have trouble working out now, an with time it's going to get worse. And the older we get, the higher the risk with any surgery. Good luck in whichever you decide and keep us posted!

I have yet to be sleeved and I am most certainly not a man but I have a question: As is I have an "above average" sex drive and I am honestly afraid of how awful I'll be post op with the hormones and the new confidence. My fiancé doesn't have my drive. He doesn't complain and enjoys what we do, but I'm scared I'll end up tying him up in the house and breaking the poor thing lol. I'd post this in the Powder Room but it seems most women there are complaining about being groped too much by their men and I see myself chasing mine down. Guys? Opinions?

*haven't been sleeves yet. Sorry lol

I would guess a sandwich is easier to get in because bread is a slippery food and it slides through the pyloric valve faster than protein or other heavier foods. I have been sleeved yet but this is based on what I've learned from my surgeon and my (never ending) NUT appointments.

What Bc (Birth Control) To Use?
lizv123 replied to MsShaunaMarie's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I've not yet been sleeved but I can tell you a couple of things. My surgeon recommends 2 forms of birth control the first 18-24 months. A hormonal form and a barrier method. But you've mentioned you aren't able to take the pill. I've tried Nuva Ring with success and I've heard good things about the Depo shot, but before this recent round of pills I loved the idea of Mirena. Semi-permanent birth control that I didn't have to remember? Awesome! The insertion was a little painful but after a day of cramping things were seemingly ok. With that said... The Mirena was a nightmare for me. My cramping was more severe than before (I was on heavy narcotics for period pain.) My periods stayed heavy and lasted around 20 days. My body hair became coarse and I started to get random facial hairs. This was huge for me as I've never been a hairy person. I have absolutely zero armpit hairs, just started shaving them to fit in in the locker room after practices. I was constantly bloated. With the Mirena I had two cervical cancer scares, both of which required colposcopies. One of those resulted in a staph infection in my uterus that spread to an ovary. But the deal breaker? I'm as fertile as a rock and with the Mirena I got pregnant. And because of the Mirena I thought I had a miscarriage in March 2011. The ER told me I wasn't far along at all and my body would "take care of it.". In August 2011 I "delivered" in my bathroom a fetus that had grown and died (who knows when) in me. My Mirena messed up the bloodwork and urinalysis at the hospital in March and every dr. appt I had after. I had the Mirena removed IMMEDIATELY and it was slightly imbedded so the removal hurt like a mo' fo'. To sum it up? Use a barrier method AND, try the shot, Nuva Ring, or Implanon and if you chose Mirena, good luck. I wouldn't recommend it for ANYONE. -
This is my first post. I've been creeping for awhile. But I'm happy to find a forum that acknowledges I'm going to be making this change for myself. It's me, not (insert deity/deities here.)
