  1. Will I be able to climb one flight of stairs to the bedroom when I get home? I really do not have any place on the main floor to have a bed so am hoping that stairs are not that big of an issue. I have a comfy recliner on main floor..no full length sofa. Will I be good through the day with the recliner so that I'd only need to go upstairs at night, or do most people feel the need to lie down multiple times a day immediately following surgery? If I need to make different arrangements, I need to know long before surgery time to figure out where and what will work to change things up. Thanks so much for your thoughts. MGT

    New Here

They are also in bulk so if you dont like them youll be stuck again. I used to get pure shakes from my grocery or walmart.. 4 in a pack in chocolate or vanilla. Maybe youd like them and could get you through this rough patch. At vit shoppe they have a case where they have Protein sports drinks in singles. I love the designer whey blitz grape and i also like Isopure grape and blue raspberry although many dont. Fill in for now and then go back and drink up that other stuff. Im doing the same thing! I also just gave some of it away to the facility where my surgery was done. There are others who cant afford the shakes that can use it. I had protein and Vitamins that i bought and could not stand at all so youre not alone. A lesson well learned though. They suggest samples on here. Wish i had listened!

    Help! I'm hungry!

You have a massive raw wound in your stomach that needs time to heal. Your doc gave you a plan to follow for a reason. Just because some plans advance sooner and some people say go ahead, does not mean you should. You will always get the answer you want to any question you ask on a board like this so if you wante nto hear yes gonahead, someone said that. If you wanted to hear no, youve heard that as well. So do you follow the plan from the doc, who cut out 85% of your stomach only 5 days ago, or do you listen to the general public? No need to answer... . Best wishes to you.
  4. Hey mich grand..I found that those that had known me over time, quit saying anything for a long, long time. I think i went up and down so often, they didnt really know what to say. One time i would be down a ton and the next, back to an even higher weight! It took a bigger weight loss each time to get comments. OP... Please take your measurements regularly. I cannot tell you how important that is. As you move along, there will be plateaus. We tend to lose some, take some time to do an internal readjustment then lose more. When people on here suggest we not weigh every day, they know how disappointing it is to see no change on the scale. The fact is, during those plateau times, our body is changing....thus the measurements! Yeah...weigh like every saturday morning, but each month log those measurements and do a new pic! When the scale does not move, remeasure, or just remind youself that this is part of the process. And men! Man...cant live with em and cant live without em! He could be standing there looking at you, as the person he loves, wearing the same top he has seen you in before and really sees no change because he was not looking at your fat to begin with. He sees the wife he loves and the woman that keeps him happy! If he looked at those pics the way we are and still says that, then there needs to be a conversation because anyone with an eye and a brain can see the change in side beside pics! Some people just say what the thought is in their head without thinking about the impact it will have. They call it truth to justify their insensitivity or their immaturity or whatever. Sometimes theres just no explanation other than theyre men! Sorry guys... But some men just have the "no clue" gene in spades and never get it when the partner breaks down in tears. And along the way, other people may also not be totally complimentary so you need to become more secure in your own self evaluation based on how you feel, look, move, on energy level, etc... And let the other less than kind comments roll off. Closer to goal theyll be saying you look sick your so thin! Best wishes. Hang in there! Youre doing an amazing job! MGT

    Add ins to greek yogurt!

PB2 .. Iocally i find it at my area health food stores. It is really good. For me, too good! It has reduced fat, but still must be monitored. It is still peanut butter! They make chocolate peanut as well! In my yogurt i sometimes mix in a half scoop of vanilla or chocolate Protein powder if i need additional protein. I found i was spending a lot on fage, my favorite, so now make it. It is a bit thinner, so i add chia seeds and other stuff like nutmeg, cinnamon or mio, put the lid back on and pack in my lunch bag.
  6. ...and loser... I am done... I have two ounces of nice tender chicken breast ready to finish off for my Protein for the day! You and your crew of six...you all have a nice evening!
  7. I had been busy, just jumped back on and only saw your comment. Then i read the whole mess and saw that you finally realized you carried it too far and tried to rewind. So yeah...probably wouldnt have posted had i read first. I am surprised though that a person working in corrections has so little self control. Poke..poke.
  8. Not "a senior" but i am 60. Sleeved 1/30/13. Down 30 post op and 75 from first seminar! Surgery and recovery were a breeze for me but i changed my habits preop and had a positive mindset as well! Good luck!
  9. ...and its much more meaningful coming from a woman!

What stage is mashed potatoes in?

Hang in there. Once you lose some and drop your too big clothes at goodwill, it will get easier to be tough on your cravings! Warm broth and warm tea helped curb my hunger early on and now too.

    Salads

I had raw veggies added last week. I began with a romaine leaf with a thin slice of low sodium turkey lunch meat and mustard. Chewed the heck out of it! Went down and settled well. Next day i added thin slices of sweet red pepper into my lettuce sandwich and the next i added baby spinach too. I also grated cucumber and mixed with greek yogurt to put over my salmon as tzatziki! It has all gone very well and thrills me to be adding good healthy veggies. Good luck!

    chewing food

Think of a Sharpie marker. Thats the size of your new stomach. This helps me with the chewing and with limiting amounts! Hope it does you too.

What stage is mashed potatoes in?

Hi dat. I noticed that each of your posts is asking about high carb foods....oatmeal, frozen yogurt and now potatoes. Im a total carb addict and these foods are also some of my favorites. Since i know these foods are really hard for me to limit, i really have to avoid them. When we eat high carb foods, they make us want more. While we lose weight, we need to focusnon high Protein foods/drinks. Once we are further down the line we can add back some complex carbs but on a limited basis. I would encourage you to focus on why you had the surgery andnto picture the thin version of youself before you eat any of the foods youve mentioned. They are not going to help you reach goal. We all know how hard it is to break away from our old eating patterns and to develop new, healthier habits, but we just have to if we want this to work. Stick to your plan and try to find something to occupy your time so that your head is filled with thoughts other than those high carb foods. Best wishes for super success!

Paying extra for a high BMI

You did not say if it is just irritating that you have to pay more or if it will delay your surgery. If it will delay you, just buckle down and save as much and as quick as possible. Just set your mind that no matter what hurdle pops up that you will jump it! It might be a delay but it is not insurmountable. If it does not delay you, let it go as much as possible and focus on prepping and dreaming about the great new life that awaits you! This is worth doing whatever is necessary to make it happen. Hang tough!

    Need help/motivation

It is hard when you dont drop what you expected to. I had read and read so knew i could have a slow start, but when it actually happened, i found it very disheartening but pushed through and just kept doing the right thing. I lost NONE until about mid way through the 3rd week but then started dropping a pound here and there. I still usually lose for 3 days then stay the same for 3-4 days...rinse and repeat. Just trust your sleeve, stick to the program, and it will work for you!

    New to forum!

Just prepare for the most exciting, most positive thing you will ever do for youself! Read all the old threads here that address the parts of the process you dont already know, clean your cabinets and start acquiring your protein drinks and vitamins you will need, research and ask about anything you have questions about, begin practicing chewing longer, not drinking while eating and taking small bites. As soon as i made the decision to get sleeved, i changed my eating to a low carb diet and i quit coffee. I didnt drink soda but would have quit that early if i had. I also began walking a mile or so several times a week. I think all this helped my preop diet, my surgery, and my recovery be the success it was. Best wishes to you! Those few weeks will fly by!
  21. Dr recommendation - 800 but i seldom make it much past 700 - im almost 8 weeks. About 30 down postop.
